NARAM'S BIO:
Naram, meaning "pagoda" in Khmer (Cambodian language) was rescued from Mekong Island, Cambodia along with two other elephants, Sambo and Pao. All three were found badly abused and malnourished, having spent months standing in water during the monsoon season. They were heavily parasitized, with tender feet and cracked nails. Sadly Sambo died soon after the rescue. Pao, age 50, survived along with Naram, and they were both brought to the Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center in 2001.
Naram is a very good-natured elephant, but was extremely depressed when she was brought to the rescue center. She was very weak, and lacked stamina and spirit for her age, so she was teamed up with a two year old elephant named Lucky and the two have since become good friends.
Having just begun painting, Naram is still honing her technique and style but clearly favors larger format papers and canvas. She seems also to favor broad vertical strokes but has an uncanny knack for creating interesting compositions with the incongruous mark here and there. As Naram shows more and more progress each day at the easel, Sin Him, Pen Ryn and Sin Chanta are very happy and proud of Naram's efforts thus far and it appears that she has found something that she enjoys very much.
