Mark Moseley Delivers Super Bowl 50 Gold Football to LHS

Former Livingston High School football player and Super Bowl XVII champion placekicker Mark Moseley presented a commemorative Super Bowl 50 Gold Football during halftime of the Lions basketball game Friday. The gold-painted football will be displayed inside the trophy case at Livingston High School as part of the National Football League's Super Bowl High School Honor Roll, which recognizes the schools and communities that helped contribute to the Super Bowl's 50-year history. Every player and coach who was part of a Super Bowl roster received a commemorative football to be delivered to their respective high schools. Each golden “Duke” football, produced by Wilson, is printed with the name of the player and high school, along with the Super Bowls in which they appeared. Livingston is one of the 326 Texas high schools that received a commemorative football. During the presentation, Mosley thanked his former coaches and teammates in attendance for participating in the special occasion and said the lessons he learned at Livingston High School carried on throughout his professional career. Those in attendance included Moseley's family, former LHS basketball coach James Burroughs, Livingston teammates and friends from SFA. “Of all the things that I've ever done as an athlete, the things I did here at Livingston High School mean the most to me.” said Moseley. “The coaches I had were the ones that mentored me and got me started in the right direction and for my entire career, I always leaned back on the things I learned from them. Not just as an athlete, but as a person and how I conducted myself outside the game.” Moseley was a graduate of Livingston High School in 1966. In addition to being a standout football player, he also lettered in basketball, baseball and track. After graduating from Stephen F. Austin University, Moseley was drafted in the 14th round by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1970. He is most known for his successful 12-year career with the Washington Redskins, where he made two Super Bowl appearances. The first appearance was a victory at Super Bowl XVII against the Miami Dolphins in the 1982 season, after an abbreviated nine-game regular season due to the player's strike. Moseley was also the NFL Most Valuable Player in 1982. His second Super Bowl appearance came the next year, losing against the Los Angeles Raiders. Moseley retired at the end of the 1986 season with the Cleveland Browns and is considered the last of the traditional “straight-on” kickers in the NFL.
