Socialism 2014, an activist day school organised by the Socialist Party, will be held at the Fitzroy Town Hall in Melbourne on October 4.
By Socialist Party reporters
The theme of this year’s event is ‘Beating back big business rule’. The first session will be a discussion about the strategy and tactics required to defeat the Victorian government’s East-West toll road. This session will give participants an understanding of the Socialist Party’s attitude to social change.
After lunch the school will discuss ‘Representation for the 99%’. We will look at the problems with the two party system and discuss how a new organisation that genuinely represents ordinary people can be built. The Socialist Party’s views about how to marry electoral and extra parliamentary work will also be discussed.
The final session of the day will look at the bleak future facing young people. Against the backdrop of low pay, casualisation, HECS and rent stress this session will investigate why this generation is worse off than the last. Perspectives for social change in the coming period will be discussed and debated.
Costs are $5 per session and an after party will be held at the Collingwood Gallery organised by the Stephen Jolly for Richmond campaign. For more information contact 0396399111.
