Description Othello, A Fall of a warrior is a collaborative effort of several passionate theatre enthusiasts that explores the love, betrayal, vengeance, jealousy and politics based on a Moorish general named Othello; his wife, Desdemona; his lieutenant, Casio; and his trusted ensign, Iago. ABOUT THE PLAY Othello, a play by William Shakespeare, was known to be one of Shakespeare's four greatest tragedies that many people have attempted to show through film and print media. Many dance choreographers have also attempted to depict the love of Othello and Desdemona through various dance forms. But we are humbly proud to be the first to conceive this theatre piece in Tamil for our Singapore audience. Written in the same period as Hamlet (1600), King Lear (1604--5), Macbeth (1606), and Antony and Cleopatra (1606--7), Shakespeare's Othello is set against the 16th century war between Venice and Turkey. While the theme of kingship and war is a common thread through many of his plays, one of the central notions in Othello is the delicate understanding of moral complexity. For instance, evil is not horrifying but instead enters into our daily lives in an unassuming manner much like how Iago manipulates Othello and other various situations. This larger postmodernist questioning of morality finds a focal point through the specific lives of the Moor, Desdemona, ensign and others.
