Andrew is the English form of a given name common in many countries. In the 1990s it was among the top ten most popular names for boys in English-speaking countries. In Italian, the equivalent to "Andrew" is "Andrea", though "Andrea" is feminine in most other languages. "Andrew" is frequently shortened to "Andy" or "Drew". The word is derived from the Greek: Ανδρέας, Andreas, itself related to Ancient Greek: ἀνήρ/ἀνδρός aner/andros, "man" (as opposed to "woman"), thus meaning "manly" and, as consequence, "strong", "courageous", and "warrior". In the King James Bible, the Greek "Ἀνδρέας" is translated as Andrew.
In 2000, the name Andrew was the second most popular name in Australia. In 1999, it was the 19th most common name, while in 1940, it was the 31st most common name. Andrew was the first most popular boys name in the Northern Territory in 2003 to 2015 and continuing. In Victoria, Andrew was the first most popular name for a boy in the 1970s.
Andrew was the 20th most popular name chosen for male infants in 2005. Andrew was the 16th most popular name for infants in British Columbia in 2004, the 17th most popular name in 2003, and the 19th most popular name in 2002. In 2001, it was the 18th most common name. From 1999 – 2003, Andrew was the sixth most often chosen name for a boy.
Sir Patrick Alfred Caldwell-Moore CBE, FRS, FRAS (4 March 1923 – 9 December 2012) was an English amateur astronomer who attained prominent status in that field as a writer, researcher, radio commentator and television presenter.
Moore was president of the British Astronomical Association, co-founder and president of the Society for Popular Astronomy (SPA), author of over 70 books on astronomy, and presenter of the world's longest-running television series with the same original presenter, the BBC's The Sky at Night. As an amateur astronomer, he became known as a specialist in Moon observation and for creating the Caldwell catalogue. Idiosyncrasies such as his rapid diction and monocle made him a popular and instantly recognisable figure on British television.
Moore was also a self-taught xylophone, glockenspiel player and pianist, as well as an accomplished composer. He was a former amateur cricketer, golfer and chess player. In addition to many popular science books, he wrote numerous works of fiction. Moore was an opponent of fox hunting, an outspoken critic of the European Union, supporter of the UK Independence Party and served as chairman of the short-lived anti-immigration United Country Party. He served in the Royal Air Force during World War II. He never married or had children.
Joseph Patrick Moore (born October 1, 1969) is an American musician from Knoxville, Tennessee, currently based in Atlanta. He is a bass player, composer, arranger and record producer who has played alongside Colonel Bruce Hampton, Earl Klugh, Stewart Copeland, John Popper, Derek Trucks, and many other notable musicians. In 2003, he founded Blue Canoe Records, the internet's first all-digital independent jazz label; he co-owns the label with Travis Prescott.
Moore began playing alto saxophone at age 7 in public school. As a freshman in high school, he took up drums as a member of the marching band. He switched to the bass during his second year. He has said that he was initially inspired by a recurring dream he had about playing the electric bass. He was influenced early by the playing of Paul Chambers, Jimmy Blanton, Ray Brown, and Ron Carter.
One of Moore's first teachers was Rusty Holloway, an instructor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, who himself had played with Woody Herman and Dizzy Gillespie, among others. Heeding Holloway's advice, Moore enrolled at the university as a classical studies and jazz performance major, with a concentration on electric bass and double bass. He began playing in bands in Knoxville, including Without Warning (with Nick Raskulinecz) and Sage (with Travis Wyrick). After two and a half years, Moore transferred to the University of Memphis, to be in a city that provided more professional musical opportunities.
Joseph "Joe" Patrick (August 4, 1857 – January 28, 1941) was a Canadian businessman who helped start the Pacific Coast Hockey Association with his sons Lester and Frank. Patrick came up with the idea to put numbers on ice hockey players' uniforms.
Patrick was born in South Durham, Quebec, in 1857. He was one of 10 children born to Irish immigrants Thomas and Lucinda Patrick. In 1881, Patrick moved to Drummondville and became a clerk at a general store. In 1883, he married Grace Nelson. They had eight children, and the two oldest, Lester and Frank, were eventually elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
In 1887, Patrick bought a general store with his cousin. They sold the store five years later, and Patrick used the money to form a lumber company. In 1907, he started Patrick Lumber Company in Nelson, British Columbia. In 1911, he sold the company for $440,000. Lester and Frank wanted to start a new ice hockey league, and the money was used to build artificial ice rinks for the league in Vancouver and Victoria. They were the first artificial ice rinks in Canada. Patrick and his family moved to Victoria in 1912, when the new league, the Pacific Coast Hockey Association, began play. His sons made several innovations in ice hockey during this time, and Patrick came up with the idea to put numbers on the players' uniforms. The PCHA continued to operate until 1924.
Andrew Wegman Bird (born July 11, 1973) is an American musician, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He was initially known through his work with the band Squirrel Nut Zippers before forming Bowl of Fire, and is now best known as a solo musician. Bird's primary instrument is the violin, but he is also proficient at various other instruments including the guitar, the mandolin, the xylophone, whistling, and the glockenspiel. He also wrote "The Whistling Caruso" for The Muppets, and performed the whistling heard in both the film and the soundtrack. He composed the score for the FX original series Baskets, created by Louis C.K., Zach Galifianakis, and Jonathan Krisel, and starring Galifianakis.
Trained in the Suzuki method from the age of four, Bird graduated from Lake Forest High School in 1991 and Northwestern University with a bachelor's degree in violin performance in 1996. That same year he self-released his first solo album, Music of Hair. Vastly different from his later work, this album showcased his violin skills and paid tribute to his fascination with both American and European folk traditions, as well as jazz and blues. Following this, his initial commercial exposure came through collaborative work with the band Squirrel Nut Zippers, appearing on three of their albums (Hot, Sold Out, and Perennial Favorites) between 1996 and 1998.

Nearly 10 years to the day Hurricane Katrina made landfall on the Gulf Coast, descending on New Orleans and its Lower Ninth Ward, President Barack Obama on Thursday will address how the storm revealed the state of inequality in the city, particularly among “poor people of color.” You are an example of what’s possible when, in the face of tragedy and hardship, good people come together to lend a hand, and to build a better future,” Obama will say at the Andrew P. Sanchez & Copelin-Byrd Multi-Service Center, according to excerpts of his speech provided by The White House. http://www.politico.com/story/2015/08/obama-speech-hurricane-katrina-10-year-anniversary-121795.html http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by Wochit using http://wochit.com

I made this a few years ago now, and it's not necessarily the best recording of the fable out there. Andrew Byrd's reading is quite nice: http://languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu/nll/?p=7179 The text I used, along with some general background: http://www.indogermanistik.uni-jena.de/dokumente/Weitere/delbrueck.pdf Here's fun exercise in translation the fable into several older IE languages from Memiyawanzi: https://memiyawanzi.wordpress.com/tag/avis-akvasas-ka/
