The Save the Children Fund, commonly known as Save the Children, is an internationally active non-governmental organization that promotes children's rights, provides relief and helps support children in developing countries. It was established in the United Kingdom in 1919 in order to improve the lives of children through better education, health care, and economic opportunities, as well as providing emergency aid in natural disasters, war, and other conflicts.
In addition to the UK organisation, there are 28 other national Save the Children organisations who are members of Save the Children International, a global network of nonprofit organisations supporting local partners in over 120 countries around the world.
Save the Children promotes policy changes in order to gain more rights for young people especially by enforcing the UN Declaration of the Rights of the Child. Alliance members coordinate emergency-relief efforts, helping to protect children from the effects of war and violence.
The Save the Children Fund was founded in London, England, on April 15, 1919 by Eglantyne Jebb and her sister Dorothy Buxton as an effort to alleviate starvation of children in Germany and Austria-Hungary during the Allied blockade of Germany in World War I.

Marvin Pentz Gay, Jr. (April 2, 1939 – April 1, 1984), better known by his stage name Marvin Gaye (he added the 'e' as a young man), was an acclaimed American singer-songwriter and musician with a three-octave vocal range, who achieved major success in the 1960s and 1970s as an artist for the Motown Records label. He was shot dead by his father on April 1, 1984.
Starting his career as a member of the doo-wop group The Moonglows in the late 1950s, he ventured into a solo career after the group disbanded in 1960, signing with Motown Records subsidiary, Tamla. He started off as a session drummer, but later ranked as the label's top-selling solo artist during the 1960s. He was crowned "The Prince of Motown" and "The Prince of Soul". because of solo hits such as "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)", "Ain't That Peculiar", "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," and his duet singles with singers such as Mary Wells and Tammi Terrell.
His work in the early- and mid-1970s included the albums, What's Going On, Let's Get It On, and I Want You, which helped influence the quiet storm, urban adult contemporary, and slow jam genres. After a self-imposed European exile in the early 1980s, Gaye returned on the 1982 Grammy-Award winning hit, "Sexual Healing" and the Midnight Love album before his death.

A Surrey primary school is closed, its fences covered in barbed wire to stop anyone getting in. A store has virtually no goods and charges hugely-inflated prices. An ambulance rushing to hospital is stopped by a roadblock. This all takes place in new advert from Save The Children - ‘What if Surrey Were Syria?’ which explores the reaction of local people when they are confronted with roadblocks, school closures and food shortages on the scale that have happened in Syria during the four-year civil war. In the video, horrified members of the public react with bewilderment and anger to the scenarios, clashing with actors playing people manning roadblocks, shopkeepers explaining why shop shelves are empty and paramedics who cannot reach hospitals. Another situation, where an ambulance carrying a mother and her sick child is unable to pass through a checkpoint, attracts concerned onlookers. Save the Children's chief executive Justin Forsyth said: “A tiny fraction of Syrian refugees make it to Europe. The poorest, the sick and the elderly remain under siege, barrel-bombed, gassed and shot, starved of food and medicine. “Despite the generosity of the UK government and others, more widely, money to assist millions living in refugees camps is drying up. -

This all takes place in new advert from Save The Children - ‘What if Surrey Were Syria?’ which explores the reaction of local people when they are confronted with roadblocks, school closures and food shortages on the scale that have happened in Syria during the four-year civil war.
In the video, horrified members of the public react with bewilderment and anger to the scenarios, clashing with actors playing people manning roadblocks, shopkeepers explaining why shop shelves are empty and paramedics who cannot reach hospitals.
Another situation, where an ambulance carrying a mother and her sick child is unable to pass through a checkpoint, attracts concerned onlookers.
Save the Children's chief executive Justin Forsyth said: “A tiny fraction of Syrian refugees make it to Europe. The poorest, the sick and the elderly remain under siege, barrel-bombed, gassed and shot, starved of food and medicine.
“Despite the generosity of the UK government and others, more widely, money to assist millions living in refugees camps is drying up.

Wow, this was a long time ago. Took my video camera (full size VHS baby!) along to the fun day our school had. I recognize so many people, and have forgotten the names of many. The lip sync is slightly out due to the transfer and sometimes the picture cuts out because of vhs tape trying to adjust it's tracking but it's still watchable. So if anybody from my old high school watches this, sit back, relax and enjoy. I've got a lot of old tapes to get through yet, so there may be more. -

Syria's brutal civil war has created one of the worst humanitarian disasters ever. Syria's children have been paying the ultimate price. Thousands have lost their lives already, and millions more have been forced to leave their homes.
Syria's children continue to lose their lives on a massive scale. Overwhelmingly it is conventional arms that are causing these deaths. And we are back to the situation that prevailed before the chemical attack: world leaders are unable to unite to decide what to do next. Where does the world go from here? The horror will not stop unless concerted action is taken, but what options, if any, are left? How can we prevent an entire generation from being lost to the violence?
On Wednesday November 27, 2013, Intelligence Squared teamed up with Save the Children UK to debate "How should the world protect Syria's children" with a panel of world experts:
Mikhail Kasyanov, former Russian Prime Minister;
Justin Forsyth, CEO of Save the Children;
Dr Rola Hallam, the British-Syrian doctor and war-zone medic who was recently involved in BBC's Panorama documentary, 'Saving Syria's Children';

Wow, this was a long time ago. Took my video camera (full size VHS baby!) along to the fun day our school had. I recognize so many people, and have forgotten the names of many. The lip sync is slightly out due to the transfer and sometimes the picture cuts out because of vhs tape trying to adjust it's tracking but it's still watchable. So if anybody from my old high school watches this, sit back, relax and enjoy. I've got a lot of old tapes to get through yet, so there may be more.
