Michael Eric Hurst, ONZM (born 20 September 1957) is a New Zealand actor, director and writer, mostly on stage and television. He is probably best known internationally for playing Iolaus in the television programs Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and companion series Xena: Warrior Princess. Most recently, he is known for his role in directing the popular Starz series Spartacus: Blood and Sand and Ash vs Evil Dead.
Hurst was born in Lancashire, England, the eldest of three brothers. When he was seven his family moved to Christchurch, New Zealand. He enrolled at Papanui High School, then University of Canterbury, but for only one year.
He married New Zealand actress Jennifer Ward-Lealand in 1988. They have two sons: Jack Louis Ward Hurst, born in 1997, and Cameron Lane Ward Hurst, born in 1999.
In 1984, Hurst won the lead role of David Blyth's Death Warmed Up, New Zealand's first splatter movie. The plot saw Hurst's character weathering institutionalisation, sundry wackos, and a motorcycle chase in the tunnels below Waiheke Island. The film won the grand prize at a fantasy film festival in Paris. The same year Hurst began playing drummer Dave Nelson over two series of Heroes, about a band searching for fame.
Kevin Patrick Smith (born August 2, 1970) is an American filmmaker, actor, comedian and public speaker as well as a comic book writer, author, and podcaster.
He came to prominence with the low-budget comedy Clerks (1994), which he wrote, directed, co-produced, and acted in as the character Silent Bob of stoner duo "Jay & Silent Bob". Jay and Silent Bob have appeared in Smith's follow-up films Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back which were mostly all set in his home state of New Jersey. While not strictly sequential, the films frequently featured crossover plot elements, character references, and a shared canon described by fans as the "View Askewniverse", named after his production company View Askew Productions, which he co-founded with Scott Mosier.
Smith also directed and produced films such as the buddy cop action comedy Cop Out (2010), the horror film Red State (2011), and the horror comedy Tusk (2014), the first film in the True North trilogy.
Michael Hurst doing what he does best. He agreed to appear in this movie as a favor to one of the old producers of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and ended up stealing the show (as is what usually happens). The rest of the movie is hilariously ridiculous as it's supposed to be, but entertaining if you know what you're getting into.
Michael Hurst talks to NZ On Screen about his acting career - from early theatre days to his latest feature film, Bitch Slap.
Clips from the entertaining documentary "Behind Bitch Slap: Building A Better B-Movie". Over 15 years after the beginning of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Eric Gruendemann (one of the many ex-producers of the show) called in a bunch of favors from the old Hercules/Xena cast to appear in his pet project exploitation B-movie. Special focus on the famously energetic and insane New Zealand entertainment legend, Michael Hurst, who took a break from his successful theater acting/directing career in New Zealand to appear in the movie. (For those of you in the States unfamiliar with Michael Hurst, think Kenneth Branagh, if he was still buff and fed a strict diet of coffee, speed, and anti-depressants. He is famous for his incredible acting range and stunt fight choreography and is quite...

*UPDATED WITH MORE CLIPS* Snippets of good ol' hyperactive Michael Hurst from the 1980's to 2012 (NOT in order). Included are tv and film roles along with some rare clips of his stage work, the medium for which he is most famous. Michael is a prolific actor, director, fight choreographer, stage singer, dancer, producer and writer who is famous here in New Zealand for his extremely physical stage presence (he has been known to climb to the top of a theater's rafters and swing across only to break a limb), on-screen versatility, and amazingly innovative approaches to Shakespeare (some clips are from his new solo play Bard Day's Night - formerly, Frequently Asked Questions - where he literally fights himself to the death). This guy is something to behold when placed on a stage. By the t...
Kevin Smith stars as himself in this Michael Hurst directed mockumentary. Only the first 9 minutes are shown, but the rest of the movie becomes increasingly hilarious as Kevin Smith's life is slowly ruined from the effects of the geoduck. The film is brilliant if you can get your hands on it. I still don't know why Michael Hurst didn't take the opportunity to go to Hollywood - we need more actor/directors like him.
An Interview with Michael Hurst from Hercules The Legendary Journeys at OZ Comic Con Adelaide 2015. His tip to me was to not ask about Shakespeare as he would go on forever! Noted. For photos and write ups please go to: https://tinselntapshoes.wordpress.com/
Fabulous Widow Twanky, interviewed by Jennifer Ward-Lealand at XenaCon 2012 in Burbank

This week, Player Attack is still hanging around at Oz Comic-Con, catching up with some very clever people. Voice actor Neil Kaplan has appeared in everything, from Transformers: Robots in Disguise to Digimon to Star Wars: The Old Republic, but we love him most as the voice of Tychus J. Findlay from StarCraft II! We also find out what Michael Hurst has been doing since he hung up the sandals and bowed out as Iolaus from Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (hint: Bit more acting, bit of directing, bit of theatre...). And then, of course, we spend a bit of time with a couple of lovely young me - Daniel Portman and Finn Jones - who took a bit of a time out from filming Game of Thrones to come and chat with us. Plus, of course, we have all the latest gaming news - this is Player Attack!

This video shows you how to do Fecal Microbiota Transplants (FMT) at home. While this video goes into a lot of detail there are other elements to make this treatment safe and effective that I cover in more detail in my book: http://fecaltransplant.org/fecal-transplant-cure-ulcerative-colitis-book/ You have probably heard that FMT is a highly effective treatment for Clostirium Difficile (c. diff) bacterial infections with studies estimating a success rate of 90 - 100% However it can also be used to treat other medical conditions like Ulcerative Colitis. I personally used it to treat my case of Ulcerative Colitis in June and July 2011 when the only other treatment option my doctors gave me was surgery. After 12 years of illness FMTs worked after every other medical treatment was unsucces...

Michael did this interview in July 2013, shortly before taking the show to Edinburgh Festival Fringe. He talks about the origins of the show, influences from his own background and from other performers and writers, and reactions from folks who have seen it--including Sir Ian McKellen. This audio recording is accompanied by pictures from the show. After its third performance at Edinburgh, No Holds Bard received its first review - five stars!

Though there ain`t no silence
I can hear my heart still beating strong
Don`t need any guidance
Or so many things went wrong
Who believes in rumours
And all the lies we have to face
Don`t know where we go now
Maybe freedom is the place
Refrain:
I need room to move
I need room to live
I need time just for my own
Most peculiar but I know
I need room to move
I need room to live
Let`s escape those old routines
It sounds funny but it seems
The light is slowly fading
And the yellow turns to grey
I can see you in a distance
And you`re much too far away
The winners and the loosers
In the end they`ll have to fail
I`sliding on the surface
But there`s so much more to gain
Refrain
Anywhere we`re going now
Anything that we believe in
What we keep on fighting for
Let the future be our hope
Anytime it gets too close
I need to break right out of here
Deep inside I know somehow
We see the same sun shining
We see the same sun shining
I need room
I need room to move, oh yeah
