Η McKennitt γεννήθηκε στη σύγχρονη Μανιτόμπα (Καναδάς) από Ιρλανδούς και Σκοτσέζους γονείς, τον Jack και την Irene McKennitt.

Κόρη νοσοκόμας και κτηνοτρόφου, πέρασα μια αρκετά ξέγνοιαστη και άνετη αγροτική ζωή. Όταν ήμουν παιδί προσδοκούσα να γίνω κτηνίατρος, αλλά με τον τρόπο που "τα καλύτερα σχέδια συνήθως παραμερίζονται" διαπίστωσα ότι με διάλεξε η μουσική περισσότερο από ότι εγώ εκείνη. Ακόμη και μετά από πολλά χρόνια στη σκηνή, δεν θεωρώ ότι έχω την κατάλληλη εξωστρεφή προσωπικότητα για μια καριέρα στην μουσική, αλλά μια προσωπικότητα που αισθάνεται πιο άνετα σε μια φάρμα, σε μια ανεπίσημη συγκέντρωση με φίλους.
Μαγεύτηκα από αυτό που συνήθως αναφέρεται ως Κέλτικη μουσική στα τέλη της δεκαετίας του '70, αλλά μόνο όταν άρχισα να συνδέομαι με την ιστορία της, άρχισε πραγματικά το ταξίδι μου. Σε μία έκθεση Κέλτικων τεχνουργημάτων στη Βενετία το 1991, έμαθα για την γεωγραφική και ιστορική εξάπλωση των Κελτών. Βρήκα τον εαυτό μου να παρασύρεται σε μία πλούσια, αρχαία τοιχογραφία ήχων, ρυθμών και ιστοριών. Ανακάλυψα μύθους και παραδόσεις που μοιάζουν η μία με την άλλη στις πιο μακρινές γωνίες του πλανήτη και ανθρώπους που ενώ μοιράζονται κοινά χαρακτηριστικά, ωστόσο παραμένουν ξεχωριστοί.

The guitar Jim is playing was built by himself and was recorded directly from the Baggs pickup via wireless transmitter and a live performance mic in the hall. This is because of the number of children and noise in the theater. It seemed to be the best way to accomplish a good recording, however, it does often sound like you are directly next to the guitar. In these Recuerdos de la Alhambra guitar lesson videos we will take on the iconic acoustic guitar piece by Francisco Tarrega.
Now for those of you who are unfamiliar with this beautiful acoustic instrumental, "Recuerdos de la Alhambra" is by far the most popular classical guitar piece ever written.
Now don't start thinking, "Hey wait a minute, I don't play classical guitar, so I should skip these Recuerdos de la Alhambra guitar lesson videos...". In reality, a tune like this will be a great study for any player, especially those who play acoustic fingerstyle.
Don't limit yourself to just classic rock repertoire or blues or whatever. You will be missing out on the huge amount of technical possibilities available to us as guitarists and you will be missing out on a lot of great music as well.
Having said that, for those who do tackle this beautiful tune you will find it to be a nice challenge. As you will discover in these Recuerdos de la Alhambra guitar lesson videos this piece uses a fingerpicking technique called tremelo which repeats throughout the entire tune.
Most tunes originally written for classical guitar are only available in standard sheet music including Recuerdos de la Alhambra.
However, knowing that 99% of guitarists can't read standard sheet music I have taken it upon myself to TAB out the entire tune myself and make it available for download below. Man I am such a nice guy!! :)
Be sure to grab the PDF because the lesson will be very difficult to follow along with otherwise.

Alhambra (
/ælˈhæmbrə/; Spanish: [aˈlambɾa]; Arabic: الْحَمْرَاء, trans. al-Ḥamrā’; literally "the red one", feminine), the complete form of which was Calat Alhambra (الْقَلْعَةُ ٱلْحَمْرَاءُ, trans. al-Qal‘at al-Ḥamrā’, "the red fortress"), is a palace and fortress complex located in Granada, Andalusia, Spain. It was constructed during the mid 14th century by the Berber rulers of the Emirate of Granada in al-Andalus, occupying the top of the hill of the Assabica on the southeastern border of the city of Granada.
The Alhambra's Moorish palaces were built for the last Muslim Emirs in Spain and its court, of the Nasrid dynasty. After the Reconquista (reconquest) by the Reyes Católicos ("Catholic Monarchs") in 1492, some portions were used by the Christian rulers. The Palace of Charles V, built by Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor in 1527, was inserted in the Alhambra within the Nasrid fortifications. After being allowed to fall into disrepair for centuries, the Alhambra was "discovered" in the 19th century by European scholars and travelers, with restorations commencing. It is now one of Spain's major tourist attractions, exhibiting the country's most significant and well known Islamic architecture, together with 16th-century and later Christian building and garden interventions. The Alhambra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the inspiration for many songs and stories.

John Towner Williams (born February 8, 1932) is an American composer, conductor, and pianist. In a career spanning almost six decades, he has composed some of the most recognizable film scores in the history of motion pictures, including the Star Wars saga, Jaws, Superman, the Indiana Jones films, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Hook, Jurassic Park, Schindler's List, War Horse, Home Alone and the first three Harry Potter films. He has had a long association with director Steven Spielberg, composing the music for all but two (Duel and The Color Purple) of Spielberg's major feature films.
Other notable works by Williams include theme music for four Olympic Games, NBC Sunday Night Football, the NBC Nightly News, the rededication of the Statue of Liberty, and the television series Lost in Space. Williams has also composed numerous classical concerti, and he served as the principal conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra from 1980 to 1993; he is now the orchestra's conductor laureate.
Williams has won five Academy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, seven BAFTA Awards, and 21 Grammy Awards. With 47 Academy Award nominations, Williams is the second most nominated person, after Walt Disney. John Williams was honored with the prestigious Richard Kirk award at the 1999 BMI Film and TV Awards. The award is given annually to a composer who has made significant contributions to film and television music. Williams was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame in 2000, and was a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors in 2004.

Ακόμη και μετά από πολλά χρόνια στη σκηνή, δεν θεωρώ ότι έχω την κατάλληλη εξωστρεφή προσωπικότητα για μια καριέρα στην μουσική, αλλά μια προσωπικότητα που αισθάνεται πιο άνετα σε μια φάρμα, σε μια ανεπίσημη συγκέντρωση με φίλους. Μαγεύτηκα από αυτό που συνήθως αναφέρεται ως Κέλτικη μουσική στα τέλη της δεκαετίας του '70, αλλά μόνο όταν άρχισα να συνδέομαι με την ιστορία της, άρχισε πραγματικά το ταξίδι μου. Σε μία έκθεση Κέλτικων τεχνουργημάτων στη Βενετία το 1991, έμαθα για την γεωγραφική και ιστορική εξάπλωση των Κελτών. Βρήκα τον εαυτό μου να παρασύρεται σε μία πλούσια, αρχαία τοιχογραφία ήχων, ρυθμών και ιστοριών. Ανακάλυψα μύθους και παραδόσεις που μοιάζουν η μία με την άλλη στις πιο μακρινές γωνίες του πλανήτη και ανθρώπους που ενώ μοιράζονται κοινά χαρακτηριστικά, ωστόσο παραμένουν ξεχωριστοί. Now don't start thinking, "Hey wait a minute, I don't play classical guitar, so I should skip these Recuerdos de la Alhambra guitar lesson videos...". In reality, a tune like this will be a great study for any player, especially those who play acoustic fingerstyle. Don't limit yourself to just classic rock repertoire or blues or whatever. You will be missing out on the huge amount of technical possibilities available to us as guitarists and you will be missing out on a lot of great music as well. Having said that, for those who do tackle this beautiful tune you will find it to be a nice challenge. As you will discover in these Recuerdos de la Alhambra guitar lesson videos this piece uses a fingerpicking technique called tremelo which repeats throughout the entire tune. Most tunes originally written for classical guitar are only available in standard sheet music including Recuerdos de la Alhambra. However, knowing that 99% of guitarists can't read standard sheet music I have taken it upon myself to TAB out the entire tune myself and make it available for download below. Κόρη νοσοκόμας και κτηνοτρόφου, πέρασα μια αρκετά ξέγνοιαστη και άνετη αγροτική ζωή. Όταν ήμουν παιδί προσδοκούσα να γίνω κτηνίατρος, αλλά με τον τρόπο που "τα καλύτερα σχέδια συνήθως παραμερίζονται" διαπίστωσα ότι με διάλεξε η μουσική περισσότερο από ότι εγώ εκείνη. Ακόμη και μετά από πολλά χρόνια στη σκηνή, δεν θεωρώ ότι έχω την κατάλληλη εξωστρεφή προσωπικότητα για μια καριέρα στην μουσική, αλλά μια προσωπικότητα που αισθάνεται πιο άνετα σε μια φάρμα, σε μια ανεπίσημη συγκέντρωση με φίλους.
Μαγεύτηκα από αυτό που συνήθως αναφέρεται ως Κέλτικη μουσική στα τέλη της δεκαετίας του '70, αλλά μόνο όταν άρχισα να συνδέομαι με την ιστορία της, άρχισε πραγματικά το ταξίδι μου. Σε μία έκθεση Κέλτικων τεχνουργημάτων στη Βενετία το 1991, έμαθα για την γεωγραφική και ιστορική εξάπλωση των Κελτών. Βρήκα τον εαυτό μου να παρασύρεται σε μία πλούσια, αρχαία τοιχογραφία ήχων, ρυθμών και ιστοριών. Ανακάλυψα μύθους και παραδόσεις που μοιάζουν η μία με την άλλη στις πιο μακρινές γωνίες του πλανήτη και ανθρώπους που ενώ μοιράζονται κοινά χαρακτηριστικά, ωστόσο παραμένουν ξεχωριστοί.

Ακόμη και μετά από πολλά χρόνια στη σκηνή, δεν θεωρώ ότι έχω την κατάλληλη εξωστρεφή προσωπικότητα για μια καριέρα στην μουσική, αλλά μια προσωπικότητα που αισθάνεται πιο άνετα σε μια φάρμα, σε μια ανεπίσημη συγκέντρωση με φίλους.
Μαγεύτηκα από αυτό που συνήθως αναφέρεται ως Κέλτικη μουσική στα τέλη της δεκαετίας του '70, αλλά μόνο όταν άρχισα να συνδέομαι με την ιστορία της, άρχισε πραγματικά το ταξίδι μου. Σε μία έκθεση Κέλτικων τεχνουργημάτων στη Βενετία το 1991, έμαθα για την γεωγραφική και ιστορική εξάπλωση των Κελτών. Βρήκα τον εαυτό μου να παρασύρεται σε μία πλούσια, αρχαία τοιχογραφία ήχων, ρυθμών και ιστοριών. Ανακάλυψα μύθους και παραδόσεις που μοιάζουν η μία με την άλλη στις πιο μακρινές γωνίες του πλανήτη και ανθρώπους που ενώ μοιράζονται κοινά χαρακτηριστικά, ωστόσο παραμένουν ξεχωριστοί.

In these Recuerdos de la Alhambra guitar lesson videos we will take on the iconic acoustic guitar piece by Francisco Tarrega.
Now for those of you who are unfamiliar with this beautiful acoustic instrumental, "Recuerdos de la Alhambra" is by far the most popular classical guitar piece ever written.
Now don't start thinking, "Hey wait a minute, I don't play classical guitar, so I should skip these Recuerdos de la Alhambra guitar lesson videos...". In reality, a tune like this will be a great study for any player, especially those who play acoustic fingerstyle.
Don't limit yourself to just classic rock repertoire or blues or whatever. You will be missing out on the huge amount of technical possibilities available to us as guitarists and you will be missing out on a lot of great music as well.
Having said that, for those who do tackle this beautiful tune you will find it to be a nice challenge. As you will discover in these Recuerdos de la Alhambra guitar lesson videos this piece uses a fingerpicking technique called tremelo which repeats throughout the entire tune.
Most tunes originally written for classical guitar are only available in standard sheet music including Recuerdos de la Alhambra.
However, knowing that 99% of guitarists can't read standard sheet music I have taken it upon myself to TAB out the entire tune myself and make it available for download below. Man I am such a nice guy!! :)
Be sure to grab the PDF because the lesson will be very difficult to follow along with otherwise.

Hacia el año 1485, en la Batalla de Lucena caía preso el rey de Granada, Boabdil el Chico. Fue puesto a buen recaudo en un torreón en Porcuna (Jaén), donde esperó su liberación. En otro lugar, en la Alhambra de Granada, en el interior de unas mazmorras se encontraban unos prisioneros cristianos. "Tenían que permanecer vivos porque su valor estaba en el posible intercambio que se hiciera por Boabdil, así que fueron bien alimentados y recibieron un buen trato, aunque permanecieron durante semanas en la Alcazaba" secretos, explica Jesús Bermúdez, asesor técnico de Arqueología del Patronato de la Alhambra y el Generalife.
La Alhambra tiene centenares de historias que contar relacionadas con cada uno de sus rincones. Cada fuente, acequia, torre, palacio... guarda el peso de la memoria como si se tratase de un libro abierto. Sin embargo, algunas de las páginas de ese libro permanecen ocultas debajo de la piedra o entre las diferentes estancias del monumento. "La Alhambra está llena de pasadizos, mazmorras, subterráneos... Hay que tener en cuenta que hubo muchas conspiraciones y que fue concebida en parte con una finalidad defensiva, así que es normal que estos lugares estén ahí".
Todo un entramado de oscuros y estrechos pasadizos recorren la colina roja, sobre la que se encuentra el monumento. El Patronato los tiene catalogados y trabaja para su conservación y estudio. "Están en diferentes niveles de la arquitectura y hay que cuidarlos. Por ese motivo no están abiertos al público, porque no resistirían el volumen de visitantes que hoy en día tiene el monumento. Son lugares frágiles que solo pueden visitarse en circunstancias excepcionales", explica Bermúdez que, en esas circunstancias, es un guía privilegiado para recorrerlos.
En la zona de la Alcazaba lo que predominan son los silos y las mazmorras. Los primeros tenían como función guardar alimentos, fundamentalmente grano y semillas, además de diferentes utensilios. Los segundos era los lugares en los que se encerraba a los cautivos. En la mayoría de los casos se trata de grandes oquedades en el suelo de las que es imposible salir sin unas escaleras. De este modo, la huida era imposible y no era necesario someter a los presos a una vigilancia permanente. "De todas formas, eran lugares muy polivalentes. En época de guerra los silos también solían ser empleados para guardar prisioneros", aclara.
Entre los múltiples pasadizos, destacan los que conectan diferentes estancias del palacio. Su estrechez y oscuridad son angustiantes. "En época nazarí por ellos andarían con pequeñas antorchas y estaban destinados al servicio y la guardia, imaginamos que para los cambios de turno", expone el arqueólogo. Los más impresionantes son los que siguen la conocida como calle de Ronda, que pudo servir también como zona de escape ya que llega hasta la misma torre de Comares. "Eran una forma rápida de abandonar el palacio y seguro que pudieron ser muy útiles en situaciones complicadas".
También por encima del muro Adarve, conocido como El Paso, hay un pasadizo de guardia que se reconvierte en túnel en la zona de los palacios nazaríes, atravesando torres y recintos arquitectónicos siguiendo la línea de la muralla. También existen túneles que conectan la Alhambra con la ciudad, en concreto con campos abiertos donde se practicaba la cetrería, de la que eran muy amantes los habitantes de los palacios de la Alhambra, lo que hace pensar que fueran empleados para llegar allí sin correr el riesgo de salir de la ciudad amurallada.
Los diferentes túneles, pasadizos, mazmorras... pertenecen a épocas muy diversas. En la alcazaba la mayor parte son originarios, fueron construidos en el mismo momento en el que se levantó el edificio, en el último tercio del siglo XIII. Los que existen en la zona de los palacios nazaríes tienen su origen a mediados del siglo XIV. Los últimos fueron construidos ya por los cristianos, que tenían la misma costumbre que los anteriores habitantes de la Alhambra. El Palacio de Carlos V tiene estructuras muy similares que tuvieron la misma función de facilitar una huida o albergar cautivos.
"Son algunos de los lugares más misteriosos del monumento, parte del patrimonio enorme que supone la Alhambra", explica el arqueólogo, para el que se está desarrollando "una importante labor de seguimiento de su estado e intervenciones constantes para mantenerlos de la mejor manera posible, aunque de momento es imposible abrirlos al público general salvo en ocasiones muy limitadas como las que ya se practican, como los cursos de verano que el centro Mediterráneo ha desarrollado este año", concluye.

También existen túneles que conectan la Alhambra con la ciudad, en concreto con campos abiertos donde se practicaba la cetrería, de la que eran muy amantes los habitantes de los palacios de la Alhambra, lo que hace pensar que fueran empleados para llegar allí sin correr el riesgo de salir de la ciudad amurallada.
Los diferentes túneles, pasadizos, mazmorras... pertenecen a épocas muy diversas. En la alcazaba la mayor parte son originarios, fueron construidos en el mismo momento en el que se levantó el edificio, en el último tercio del siglo XIII. Los que existen en la zona de los palacios nazaríes tienen su origen a mediados del siglo XIV. Los últimos fueron construidos ya por los cristianos, que tenían la misma costumbre que los anteriores habitantes de la Alhambra. El Palacio de Carlos V tiene estructuras muy similares que tuvieron la misma función de facilitar una huida o albergar cautivos.
"Son algunos de los lugares más misteriosos del monumento, parte del patrimonio enorme que supone la Alhambra", explica el arqueólogo, para el que se está desarrollando "una importante labor de seguimiento de su estado e intervenciones constantes para mantenerlos de la mejor manera posible, aunque de momento es imposible abrirlos al público general salvo en ocasiones muy limitadas como las que ya se practican, como los cursos de verano que el centro Mediterráneo ha desarrollado este año", concluye.

La Alhambra de Granada es uno de los monumentos más espectaculares que podemos contemplar hoy día. Su parte más antigua es la Alcazaba. Esta es un recinto militar, por lo que cuenta con diversas torres defensivas, como las de la Vela y la del Homenaje, entre otras. La Alcazaba, llamada Qa'lat al-Hamra, es decir, Castillo Rojo, dará nombre posteriormente a todo el conjunto, que será conocido como Madina al-Hamra, la ciudad de la Alhambra.
Junto a la Alcazaba surge, posteriormente, una ciudad palaciega. El complejo de los Palacios Nazaríes, que pudieron ser siete, comienza por el Mexuar, en el que funcionaba el Tribunal Real. Anexo a éste se situaba el Palacio de Comares, articulado en torno al magnífico Patio de los Arrayanes.
El Patio de los Arrayanes era el centro de la actividad diplomática y política de la Alhambra. En él se realizaban grandes recepciones y era el sitio en el que las personalidades aguardaban a ser recibidos por el sultán. En el Patio, el agua de la alberca conseguía maravillar a los visitantes con un espectacular efecto de espejo, que reflejaba los arcos y la Torre de Comares y hacía de la construcción un palacio flotante.
El conjunto de los Palacios Nazaríes se completa con el complejo de edificios situados alrededor del Patio de los Leones, quizá el lugar más emblemático de la Alhambra. Éste era el núcleo de la residencia privada del sultán, en el que también había unas dependencias destinadas a las mujeres.
Junto a los edificios citados, otras construcciones menores completaban la Alhambra. Entre ellas podemos citar, a modo de ejemplo, la Puerta del Vino, los jardines del Partal o las más de 30 torres que completaban la muralla, de las que hoy sólo quedan 22.
La conquista cristiana de Granada marcó el comienzo de importantes modificaciones sobre el recinto de la Alhambra. Por encima de todas, destaca el Palacio de Carlos V, quien pretendió con este edificio construir el gran centro político y residencial del Imperio. Construcción cristiana fue también la iglesia de Santa María, edificada sobre las ruinas de la que fue gran mezquita real. --
