Iris DeMent
Iris Luella DeMent (born January 5, 1961) is an American singer and songwriter. DeMent's musical style includes elements of the country and folk music genres.
Early life
DeMent was born near Paragould, Arkansas, the youngest child of Pat DeMent and his second wife, Flora Mae. As the baby of the family, she was Pat DeMent's 14th child, and Flora Mae's eighth.
Iris's mother had harbored dreams of going to Nashville and starting a singing career. Although she put those plans on hold to get married, her singing voice was an inspiration and influence for her youngest daughter Iris.
She was raised in a Pentecostal household. Her family moved from Arkansas to the Los Angeles area when she was three. While growing up, she was exposed to and influenced by country and gospel music. Singing at age five as one of "the little DeMent sisters," Iris had a bad experience when she forgot her words during her first performance, which caused her to avoid performing in public for some time.

Modern Vampires of the City
Modern Vampires of the City is the third studio album by American indie rock band Vampire Weekend, released on May 14, 2013, by XL Recordings. After releasing their 2010 album Contra, the band toured and wrote new material during sound checks. Following a period in which the quartet pursued different musical projects, they regrouped and began work on their third record in 2011. Working with no deadline in mind, the band brought in an outside record producer for the first time, Ariel Rechtshaid.
Recorded at a number of studios and locations, Modern Vampires of the City was an attempt to distance the band from the sound they became heavily associated with following their 2008 debut and Contra. Broadly experimental, the sound featured on the record is the result of a variety of unconventional recording assets, including pitch shifting. The cover art is a 1966 photograph by Neal Boenzi of the smoggiest day in New York City history, on which the air pollution killed at least 169 people.

A BEAUTIFUL city, NICE people, a well-run festival and a GREAT line up. I shot 37 videos from a dozen or so artists. WORTH EVERY PENNY AND WE'LL BE BACK NEXT YEAR. This is amateur video. IRIS DEMENT is considered "one of the great voices in contemporary popular music" (NPR), Beginning with her 1992 debut, ‘Infamous Angel,’ which was hailed as “an essential album of the 1990’s” by Rolling Stone, DeMent released a series of stellar records that established her as “one of the finest singer-songwriters in America” according to The Guardian. The music earned her multiple Grammy nominations, as well as the respect of peers like John Prine, Steve Earle, and Emmylou Harris, who all invited her to collaborate. 'The Trackless Woods' is her latest and unlike any other in Iris' illustrious career. Featuring original music and melodies, the record brings 18 poems by acclaimed 20th century Russian poet Anna Akhmatova to life. Iris recorded the album in five days, immediately taken by the sorrow and burden of the poems juxtaposed with Akhmatova's lightness and transcendence in the face of inhumanity.
LEYLA MCCALLA is a multi-instrumentalist, is a cellist and singer whose distinctive sound is impossible to replicate. Leyla toured and recorded with the renowned African-American string band the Carolina Chocolate Drops and now focused on her solo career. Living in New Orleans, she released her debut album 'Vari-Colored Songs: A Tribute to Langston Hughes' in 2014. The album consists of compositions she has written to Langston Hughes poetry, Haitian folk songs and original pieces.
WoodSongs Kid: Madison Lewis is 12-years-old. This native of London, Kentucky won 1st place at the Mountain Soul Vocal Competition Sevierville, Tennessee earlier this year.

Living in New Orleans, she released her debut album 'Vari-Colored Songs: A Tribute to Langston Hughes' in 2014. The album consists of compositions she has written to Langston Hughes poetry, Haitian folk songs and original pieces.
WoodSongs Kid: Madison Lewis is 12-years-old. This native of London, Kentucky won 1st place at the Mountain Soul Vocal Competition Sevierville, Tennessee earlier this year.
