#iran #zanjan #4k #زنجان
The experience of my two-day trip to Zanjan was generally good. This city, like many cities, had strengths and weaknesses! I would like to share with you the things I have experienced on this trip.
1. Do not travel to Zanjan in summer. The weather is very hot during the day and the sun is burning, although the sky is blue and the nights are cool.

IRAN 2022 - Iran cities walking tour in Zanjan City - Zanjan 2022 Grand bazaar Tour
The old market complex of Zanjan is one of the most important tourist attractions of Zanjan with its geographical extent and variety of streets. The existence of many mosques as well as the number of inner-city sanctuaries and kavanseras in the sub-districts, each of which was dedicated to a specific name and activity, has been indicative of the dynamics of this complex during the past times and the prevailing conditions. This market, which is considered the longest covered market in Iran, has been expanded from the west and the east, and thus it has been divided and named the lower market and the upper market. Zanjan market complex is registered in the list of national monuments of Iran and is located in ...

Amazing Adventures in Zanjan: From Behestan Castle to Soltaniyeh Dome
⭐️Behestan Castle, also known as Kohan Dezh, is located in Mahneshan County in Zanjan province, near the village of Behestan and alongside the Qezel Ozan River. Unfortunately, this unique castle is on the brink of destruction due to neglect by national and provincial cultural heritage authorities.
The original structure of this fortress is attributed to the Sassanid era, but it was also used during the Islamic period (5th to 7th centuries AH). The remains of Behestan Castle are registered in the list of national monuments. Some attribute the history of this fortress to the Median and Achaemenid periods. The castle is divided into three main sections: rooms, corridors, and stairways. The zigzag stairways on the western and eastern sides have undergone significant erosion, making them dange...

2. The best hotel in the city is called Zanjan Grand Hotel, which has only four stars, and its prices are even more expensive than five-star hotels in other cities, and unfortunately, the quality of the hotel is not even at the level of a four-star hotel, but unfortunately (Zanjan Grand Hotel) is slightly better than three-star hotels.
3. Driving situation in Zanjan city is not good. So be careful if you travel to this city by car. Drive carefully even if the traffic light is green!
4. The streets of Zanjan do not have heavy traffic, but you may not find a parking space when you plan to park your car!
5. Zanjan is the closest Turkic city to Tehran. If you are a Turkic speaker, this city can be very attractive for you, but if you are not even a Turk, don't worry, the people of Zanjan are very kind and you will enjoy talking and socializing with them.
6. The best souvenirs of Zanjan city are all kinds of very beautiful knives with delicious sweets (berenji and shasti).
There are many things that cannot be said here! Because probably no one reads them!!! But I tried to tell six of the bad and good things that were the most important.
I hope you enjoy visiting this city.

Zanjan is a city in the Central District of Zanjan County, Zanjan province, Iranian
Azerbaijan, and serves as the capital of the county and of the province. Zanjan is a city in northwestern Iran.
It's an important cultural center, the birthplace of traditional Persian carpets and the largest center of their industrial and handicraft production.
The city lies 298 km northwest of Tehran on the main highway to Tabriz and Turkey, and approximately 125 km from the Caspian Sea. It is about 20 km south of the Qaflankuh Mountain Range. Zanjan is located at an altitude of 1638 m above sea level.
The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 430,871 people, making it the 20th largest city in Iran. The population of Zanjan consists mostly of Iranian Azeris who are bilingual in Azerbaijani and Persian. Approximately half of the population of Zanjan Province lives in Zanjan city. In a 2017 study, researchers concluded that Azerbaijani-speaking families in the city display language shift to Persian.
Zanjan is known for its handcrafts such as knives, traditional sandals, called charoogh, and malileh, a handcraft made with silver wires. Zanjani artists make many things like various decorative dishes and their special covers as well as silver jewelry. In ancient times, Zanjan was known for its stainless and sharp knives. But this tradition is gradually becoming extinct by introduction of Chinese-made knives into the market which are far cheaper, more abundant and less artistic.
Zanjan's population boasts the highest level of happiness among the people of 30 other provinces in Iran, according to a detailed survey conducted by ISNA.
The presence of valuable deposits of copper, gold, mercury, etc. around Zanjan, as well as its location on important trade routes with the Middle East, have created conditions for its historical socio-economic development.
The date of construction of the city of Zanjan hasn’t been determined yet. However, according to the 14th-century Iranian geographer Hamdallah Mustawfi, Zanjan was said to have been founded by the first Sasanian ruler Ardashir I (224–242).
Zanjan has a cold semi-arid climate with hot, dry summers and cold, moist winters, often with snowfall. Precipitation is very low, and mostly falls between October and May. On February 13, 2020, a temperature of -21.0 °C was recorded.
Zanjan has a very bizarre pattern of natural landscapes, and in summer it has pleasant air.
The city of Zanjan is also rich in historical monuments, and in this respect, it is a living chronicle of the history of Azerbaijan. There are about a hundred caravanserais, 20 baths, more than 50 mosques, many tombs and other historical monuments in the city.
Among its important sights it is necessary to mention the historical complex of the Zanjan bazaar. Jameh Mosque of Zanjan - the central mosque of Zanjan is also known as the Seyyed Mosque, this was constructed in 1826 during the Qajar-era, by one of Fath-Ali Shah's sons.
Tofighi's building is related to last parts of Qajar-era and Pahlavi-era. Match company is related to Pahlavi's era and located on Safa street. Dadamaan Hotel Zanjan initially served as a caravanserai and then for approximately 80 years it was the house of one of Zanjan's scholars, Sheikh Jalal Ashabi. The Sangi Caravanserai (stone caravanserai) is an ancient roadside inn, constructed in Safavi-era and was converted into a restaurant in the 1990s. The Rakhtshooy Khaneh Edifice is a historical wash-house and Iranian national heritage site, that is currently being used as Zanjan anthropological museum. One of the important city sights must be recognized as Mir-Baha-ud-Din Bridge. It is located in one of the southern suburbs of Zanjan on the road leading to Kurdistan.
The city's industrial enterprises cover the following areas.
• Lead
• Zinc
• Pasteurized milk
• Chemical productions
• Weaving
• Cotton
• Food productions
• Transformator
• Electrical productions
The most famous handicrafts are knives, charuq (a local style of women's shoes, similar to clodhopper shoes), filigree and gilding.
Zanjan is also home to several universities such as:
• University of Zanjan
• Zanjan University of Medical Sciences
• Islamic Azad University of Zanjan
• Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences
Zanjan is known for having one of the best indoor sport climbing walls in the Middle East, located in Enghelab sports complex.
Sister cities of Zanjan:
• Trabzon, Turkey
• Malacca, Malaysia

Zanjan market complex is registered in the list of national monuments of Iran and is located in the historical context of Zanjan city.
Access route to Zanjan market
Zanjan Grand Bazaar can be accessed from several routes. If you use public transportation, you will be able to get to El-Englab square and the main entrance of Zanjan market by means of high-speed buses on Saadi street. Otherwise, access to Zanjan market and its multiple entrances is possible through Imam Khomeini Street, Taleghani Street, Asim Zanjani Street and Ferdowsi Street.

Amazing Adventures in Zanjan: From Behestan Castle to Soltaniyeh Dome
⭐️Behestan Castle, also known as Kohan Dezh, is located in Mahneshan County in Zanjan province, near the village of Behestan and alongside the Qezel Ozan River....
The zigzag stairways on the western and eastern sides have undergone significant erosion, making them dangerous to traverse, while the stairways on the northwestern side remain intact, leading to a room with an arched ceiling.
The walls of this castle resemble conjoined chimneys. There are 64 rooms, several corridors, and stairs carved manually into the mountains. The castle's proximity to the Chimney of the Jinn has also earned it the nickname "Castle of the Jinn." These chimneys are also known as Div's Throne due to the belief that demons slept on the flat stones atop the columns. Similar formations can be found in places like Bryce Canyon in the United States, Vardij village near Vardavard in Tehran, the Darkepe Dag mountains, France, the Alps, Serbia, and Taiwan. Despite its appeal to geotourists and geologists, this area is exposed to severe erosion and destruction, with no adequate protective measures in place.
Behestan Castle also features a unique water supply system, including a stone and sarooj (a type of erosion-resistant stone) pool at the top of the castle, with clay pipes channeling water to the lower parts of the structure.
----------------------------------------
🪨Near the city of Mahneshan in Zanjan province, there is a mysterious and strange attraction, a structure that bears the traces of demons and jinn, leading locals to believe it was built by supernatural beings. For this reason, it is called the "Chimney of the Jinn." In geological terms, this natural phenomenon is referred to as a "hoodoo." A hoodoo is essentially a mushroom-shaped rock that, due to erosion, has taken on the appearance of a tall, thin spire with another rock perched atop it. In Zanjan, these hoodoos are known as "Chimneys of the Jinn."
To see the Chimney of the Jinn, you need to travel 20 kilometers from Mahneshan and 120 kilometers from Zanjan. There, you will find tall columns made of clay, formed through long-term erosion, with a flat stone on top that gives them a chimney-like appearance. You might wonder why locals call these formations "Chimneys of the Jinn." In the past, any structure that was difficult for humans to construct was attributed to jinn and demons. Hoodoos are always a point of interest for geologists, but unfortunately, the hoodoos in Zanjan are not protected and are at risk of destruction.
----------------------------------------------
🕍The Soltaniyeh Dome is the mausoleum of Öljeitü (Sultan Muhammad Khodabandeh), the eighth Mongol ruler. The dome was constructed between 1302 and 1312 AD (703 to 713 AH) by the order of Sultan Muhammad Khodabandeh and under the supervision of Rashid al-Din Fazl-Allah Hamadani in the city of Soltaniyeh (the capital of the Ilkhanate). It is considered one of the significant works of Iranian and Islamic architecture. In 2005, the Soltaniyeh Dome was registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This structure is the largest brick dome in the world, second only to the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral. This structure features 8 porticos and 8 minarets, which are said to be inspired by the 8 gates of paradise (Abwab al-Birr or Gates of Righteousness). The building encompasses two periods of decoration. The first period includes brick and tile adornments, where Quranic verses, and the names of Allah, Muhammad, Ali, and the sultan are inscribed with bricks and tiles. However, after a while, for an unknown reason, Sultan Muhammad Khodabandeh ordered the tile decorations to be covered with plaster.
The Soltaniyeh Dome consists of three main sections: the entrance, the Turbat Khaneh (sanctuary), and the crypt.
