1975. Two miles west of London, Dr. Robert Laing moves into his new apartment seeking soulless anonymity, only to find that the building’s residents have no intention of leaving him alone. Resigned to the complex social dynamics unfolding around him, Laing bites the bullet and becomes neighbourly. As he struggles to establish his position, Laing’s good manners and sanity disintegrate along with the building. The lights go out and the lifts fail but the party goes on. People are the problem. Booze is the currency. Sex is the panacea. Only much later, as he sits on his balcony eating the architect’s dog, does Dr. Robert Laing finally feel at home…..

A tower block, high-rise, apartment tower, office tower, apartment block, or block of flats, is a tall building or structure used as a residential and/or office building. In some areas they may be referred to as "MDU" standing for "Multi Dwelling Unit".
High-rise buildings became possible with the invention of the elevator (lift) and cheaper, more abundant building materials. The materials used for the structural system of high-rise buildings are reinforced concrete and steel. Most North American style skyscrapers have a steel frame, while residential blocks are usually constructed out of concrete. There is no clear definition of any difference between a tower block and a skyscraper though a building lower than about thirty storeys is not likely to be a skyscraper and a building with fifty or more storeys is certainly a skyscraper.
High-rise structures pose particular design challenges for structural and geotechnical engineers, particularly if situated in a seismically active region or if the underlying soils have geotechnical risk factors such as high compressibility or bay mud. They also pose serious challenges to firefighters during emergencies in high-rise structures. New and old building design, building systems like the building standpipe system, HVAC systems (Heating, Ventilation and Air conditioning), fire sprinkler system and other things like stairwell and elevator evacuations pose significant problems.

Thomas William "Tom" Hiddleston (born 9 February 1981) is an English film, television, radio, and stage actor. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), and he rose to prominence through a number of TV roles and more recently major film roles. He played Loki in the 2011 Marvel Studios film Thor, Captain Nicholls in Steven Spielberg's World War I film War Horse (2011), and also Freddie Page in the British drama The Deep Blue Sea, alongside Rachel Weisz. He played author F. Scott Fitzgerald in the Woody Allen film Midnight in Paris (2011). He returned to his role as Loki in The Avengers (2012) and is set to reprise the character again for Thor 2 (2013).
Hiddleston was born in Westminster, London, to parents Diana Patricia (née Servaes), a former stage manager and arts administrator, and James Norman Hiddleston, a scientist in physical chemistry who was the managing director of a pharmaceutical company. His father is from Greenock, Scotland and his mother from Suffolk, England. He is the middle child with two sisters, Sarah (oldest), a journalist in India, and Emma (youngest), is also an actor. He was raised in Wimbledon, in his early years, and later in Oxford. When Hiddleston was 13, he boarded at Eton College, at the same time that his parents were going through a divorce. "I think I started acting because I found being away at school while my parents were divorcing really distressing." He went on to act at The Dragon School in Oxford, then continued on to the University of Cambridge, where he earned a double first. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 2005.

Mark Kermode (born 2 July 1963) is an English film critic, musician and a member of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. He contributes to Sight and Sound magazine, The Observer newspaper and BBC Radio 5 Live, where he presents Kermode and Mayo's Film Reviews with Simon Mayo on Friday afternoons. He also co-presents the BBC Two arts programme The Culture Show and discusses other branches of the arts for the BBC Two programme Newsnight Review. Kermode writes and presents a film-related video blog for the BBC.
Kermode, born Mark Fairey in Barnet, North London, England, attended Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School, an independent boys' school in Elstree, a few years ahead of comedians Sacha Baron Cohen, Matt Lucas and David Baddiel and in the same year as actor Jason Isaacs. He was raised as a Methodist, and is now a member of the Church of England.
Mark Fairey's parents divorced when he was in his early 20s and he subsequently changed his surname to his GP mother's maiden name by deed poll. (Neither of them is related to the literary critic Frank Kermode.)

In 2011 we started The High Rise brand in Southern California! This last weekend marked 4 years in business, which called for a celebration. We rented out a huge place with a pool in the middle of the desert and had a blast! We decided to smoke out of some different fruits. Life seems like paradise to the solitude-seeking Laing. But as power outages become more frequent and building flaws emerge, particularly on the lower floors, the regimented social strata begins to crumble and the building becomes a battlefield in a literal class war.

1975. Le Dr Robert Laing, en quête d’anonymat, emménage près de Londres dans un nouvel appartement d’une tour à peine achevée; mais il va vite découvrir que ses voisins, obsédés par une étrange rivalité, n’ont pas l’intention de le laisser en paix… Bientôt, il se prend à leur jeu. Et alors qu’il se démène pour faire respecter sa position sociale; ses bonnes manières et sa santé mentale commencent à se détériorer en même temps que l’immeuble : les éclairages et l’ascenseur ne fonctionnent plus mais la fête continue! L’alcool est devenu la première monnaie d’échange et le sexe la panacée. Ce n’est que bien plus tard que le Dr Laing, assis sur son balcon en train de faire rôtir le chien de l’architecte du 40ème étage, se sent enfin chez lui.

Dr. Robert Laing (Tom Hiddleston) zieht nach seiner Scheidung ein außergewöhnliches Hochhaus. Die vierzig Etagen des glamourösen Gebäudes sind klar aufgeteilt: Die Upperclass hat die oberen Stockwerke für sich reserviert, während Familien sich mit den Untergeschossen zufrieden geben müssen. Der 30-jährige Laing hat sein Appartement im mittleren Bereich und freundet sich mit dem Fernsehjournalisten Richard Wilder (Luke Evans) aus dem zweiten Stock an. Seine große Faszination gilt aber Anthony Royal (Jeremy Irons), dem Architekten und Schöpfer des Ensembles, der ganz oben über allen residiert. Schon bald beginnt es, hinter der glitzernden Oberfläche des Wolkenkratzers zu rumoren. Mysteriöse Schlafprobleme machen den Bewohnern zu schaffen. Hinzu kommen Konflikte zwischen der “Oberschicht” und der “Unterschicht”, die immer größere Kreise ziehen. Während eines Stromausfalls brechen die Aggressionen im Haus offen aus. Laing muss mitansehen, wie Verwahrlosung und Anarchie mehr und mehr um sich greifen und in nackte Gewalt umschlagen. Third - about this particular building, it's actually an older work and this video was recorded a good few months ago. I just never got around to uploading it until now.
