"The Intelligent Investor" was written by Benjamin Graham and teaches about the fundamentals of value investing. Ben does such a great job in this book, that Warren Buffett claims it is "the best book ever written on investing". Remember that Warren Buffett was a student of Benjamin, and that this book has amazing insight that can still be used today when investing in the stock market, our health, knowledge, and even friends. In this short animated review of The Intelligent Investor, I cover some main topics such as value investing, the role of inflation, and the difference between investing and speculating. This book contains a lot, but I think the key takeaways from it are: 1. Decide whether you are an enterprising (active) or defensive (passive) investor. Don't try operate in a middle ground because that is where people get killed. 2. Invest with a margin of safety 3. Mr. Market is there to serve you 4. Investing is most intelligent when it is most businesslike.

Long-term investment advice. Low cost index funds with dollar cost averaging are better than mutual funds and stocks for most investors. Much of this information can also be found in The Intelligent Investor book. Other concepts were gathered through investment experience. 1. Be skeptical of actively managed mutual funds with high expense ratios. 2. Low cost index funds will save you time, tax, brokerage fees. Vanguard S&P500; seems to be a very viable, trustworthy, and conservative option (which was backed by Warren Buffett in his annual report a few years ago). 3. Invest with in these by dollar cost averaging. You will save lots of time (without having to do research) and can avoid losing or gaining money off emotional activity in the market. 4. Consider increasing the percentage of bon...

The fourth edition's preface by Warren Buffett, in which he claims that this is the best investment book he has read, does not hurt either. In the introduction Benjamin Graham explains that the book presents principles for intelligent investing while warn...

The hallmark of Graham's philosophy is not profit maximization but loss minimization. In this respect, The Intelligent Investor is a book for true investors, not speculators or day traders. He provides, "in a form suitable for the laymen, guidance in adoption and execution of an investment policy" (1). This policy is inherently for the longer term and requires a commitment of effort. Where the speculator follows market trends, the investor uses discipline, research...

Graham's philosophy of "value investing" which shields investors from substantial error and teaches them to develop long-term strategies has made The Intelligent Investor the stock market Bible ever since its original publication in 1949. Over the years, market developments have proven the wisdom of Graham's strategies. While preserving the integrity of Graham's original text, this revised edition includes updated commentary by noted financial journalist Jason Zweig, whose perspective incorporates the real...

Jason Zweig will discuss his latest book, The Devil's Financial Dictionary, and how he went about distilling everything he had learned in almost three decades as an investing journalist into definitions of Wall Street terms that are, in many cases, only a few words long. Markets are driven much more by psychology and history than by economics. In writing The Devil's Financial Dictionary, Zweig was guided largely by a saying of his father's: "It's remarkable how much you have to learn in order to realize how little you need to know." “This is the most amusing presentation of the principles of finance that I have ever seen.” —Robert J. Shiller, professor of finance, Yale University; Nobel laureate in economics; author of Irrational Exuberance “Part social commentary, part instruction man...

Benjamin Graham is the father of value investing with his book The Intelligent Investors (first published in 1949) still the bible for any aspiring value investing and the phrase price is what you pay value is what you get still rings true today. But how does he identify a value investment and how do we implement it into our investing as a value investor? This video will detail the two processes Graham used for value investing for defensive and enterprising stocks and the process was far from easy with no stocks meeting the criteria. Is the JSE too small or is it simple over valued? A great Q&A; session followed with some excellent ideas being thrown around but perhaps most importantly the process really got one thinking.
