The 2016 Summer Camp Music Festival is scheduled for May 27 through May 29 at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, Illinois. This year's festival has already announced performances by Moe, Umphrey's McGee, Mudcrutch (featuring Tom Petty), Big Grizmatik (made up of members of Big Gigantic, Griz, and Gramatik), Ani DiFranco, The Roots, Cherub, EOTO, George Clinton & P-Funk, Fishbone, Here Come the Mummies, STS9, Greensky Bluegrass, and dozens more acts. While more acts will be announced later, bands in cities across the country will be competing to earn a spot on a Summer Camp stage via the Summer Camp on the Road battle of the bands.
Summer Camp on the Road will stop in Des Moines on Saturday, March 19 for a battle of the bands at Wooly's. Doors for the event will open at 7 p.m., and the first band will take the stage at 8 p.m. Tickets for the event are just $5, and they may be purchased at the Wooly's box office or online through Ticketfly. This event is open to all ages.
Des Moines progressive band Aquamarine Dream Machine, Des Moines alt-rockers Cirrus Minor (who will be performing an acoustic set because their drummer has a new baby due that week), Des Moines jamgrass band The Dead Line String Band, and West Des Moines folk rock jam band Franklin's Basement will be the band's competing for a spot at Summer Camp 2016. An audience vote will determine the winner, so get out and support your favorite. For more information on the 2016 Summer Camp Music Festival, go to the festival's website.
