A sea is a large body of salt water that is surrounded in whole or in part by land. More broadly, "the sea" is the interconnected system of Earth's salty, oceanic waters—considered as one global ocean or as several principal oceanic divisions. The sea moderates Earth's climate and has important roles in the water cycle, carbon cycle, and nitrogen cycle. Although the sea has been travelled and explored since prehistory, the modern scientific study of the sea—oceanography—dates broadly to the British Challenger expedition of the 1870s. The sea is conventionally divided into up to five large oceanic sections—including the IHO's four named oceans (the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, and Arctic) and the Southern Ocean; smaller, second-order sections, such as the Mediterranean, are known as seas.
Owing to the present state of continental drift, the Northern Hemisphere is now fairly equally divided between land and sea (a ratio of about 2:3) but the South is overwhelmingly oceanic (1:4.7).Salinity in the open ocean is generally in a narrow band around 3.5% by mass, although this can vary in more landlocked waters, near the mouths of large rivers, or at great depths. About 85% of the solids in the open sea are sodium chloride. Deep-sea currents are produced by differences in salinity and temperature. Surface currents are formed by the friction of waves produced by the wind and by tides, the changes in local sea level produced by the gravity of the Moon and Sun. The direction of all of these is governed by surface and submarine land masses and by the rotation of the Earth (the Coriolis effect).
The Sea or the Water is an area of the sky in which many water-related, and few land-related, constellations occur. This may be because the Sun passed through this part of the sky during the rainy season.
Most of these constellations are named by Ptolemy:
Sometimes included are the ship Argo and Crater the Water Cup.
Some water-themed constellations are newer, so are not in this region. They include Hydrus, the lesser water snake; Volans, the flying fish; and Dorado, the swordfish.
The Sea is an album by Norwegian pianist Ketil Bjørnstad recorded in 1994 and released on the ECM label.
The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow awarded the album 4½ stars stating "The music is generally mournful, full of space, floating and very much a soundtrack for one's thoughts... Some listeners may enjoy its introspective and peaceful nature of these performances but most will find this a bit of a bore.
Moonrise is a book written by Penny Wolfson. The full name, Moonrise; One Family, Genetic Identity, And Muscular Dystrophy, refers to her family and her son, Ansel, who has struggled through his life with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. As Ansel progresses in life, he gets weaker, and begins to use a wheelchair, but stays much fitter than most with Duchenne. Ansel later went to Columbia University. After 23 years of living with this disability, Ansel still lives a healthy and productive life.
The author won a national magazine award for the article the book was subsequently based on.
The Snowfall Trilogy is a series of three fantasy novels written by Mitchell Smith. Set in a post-apocalyptic near future, the novels explore a vision of how the Earth might be after another Ice Age caused by Jupiter changing orbit.
The first book in the series, released in February 2002, focuses on a group of hunter-gatherers called the Trappers.
The second book was released in June 2003.
Moonrise, released in April 2004, tells the story of Prince "Baj" Bajazet, adopted son of Sam Monroe, the Archieving King. When a coup backed by Boston wipes out the Middle Kingdom's royal family, save Bajazet, he becomes a man on the run. Rescued by three Moonrisers, self called Persons, people part man and part animal created by Boston, Baj joins them in their quest to harm the city.
MoonRise is a mission to the Moon that focuses on the giant South Pole–Aitken basin on the far side of the Moon between the Moon's South Pole and Aitken Crater, 16° south of the Moon's equator. This basin measures nearly 2,500 kilometres (1,600 mi) in diameter and 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) in depth. This region is the oldest, deepest, observable impact basin on the Moon and provides a window into the deep crust of the Moon and its history as a result. The basin is also among the largest recognized impact structures in the Solar System. The mission would be NASA's first unmanned sample return mission from another planetary body.
Moonrise was not selected for the next New Frontiers program launch, losing out to OSIRIS-REx asteroid sample return mission.
Identified as the most expensive defence procurement project to date in Australian history, the Collins-class replacement will provide Australia with a submarine capability deep into the twenty-first century. With the Royal Australian Navy's (RAN's) Collins-class submarines scheduled to begin leaving service from 2025 onwards, plans to replace them began in 2007 with the commencement of the defence acquisition project SEA 1000, also referred to as the Future Submarine Programme. Australia's unique operating environment (including significant variations in ocean climate and conditions) and rejection of nuclear propulsion had previously driven it to operate in the Collins-class the world's largest diesel-electric submarines, capable of transiting the long distances from HMAS Stirling to their deployment areas.
In the early phases of the replacement project, four design options were identified: purchase a Military-Off-The-Shelf (MOTS) design, modify a MOTS design for Australian conditions, design an evolution of the Collins-class, or create a new design. Nuclear propulsion has been ruled out due to the lack of an indigenous nuclear industry in Australia and public opposition to nuclear technology.

We can leave this world behind,
Let the sun refuse to rise,
But when nothing comes to mind,
Poseidon is a friend of mine,
Don't let go,
The water's warm,
We'll be taken by the storm,
So come with me into the sea...
Walk with me and we'll be,
In a different world tonight,
Walk with me and we'll be alright,
All across the great divide,
We'll make friends below the tide,
'Cause our love is ocean wide,
And there's nothing left to hide,
Don't let go,
The water's warm,
We'll be safe below the storm,
So come with me into the sea...
Walk with me and we'll be,
In a different world tonight,
Walk with me and we'll be alright,
Let's all drift away,
Leave behind your lonely day,
Let's all drift away,
Leave behind your lonely day,
Walk with me and we'll be,
In a different world tonight,
