Alleyn's School is an independent, co-educational day school situated in Dulwich, south London, England. It is a registered charity and was originally part of the Alleyn's College of God's Gift charitable foundation, which also included James Allen's Girls' School (JAGS), Dulwich College and their affiliate schools (JAPS and Alleyn's Junior School). The official religion is Church of England. The school is also listed in the Good Schools Guide.
In 1619, Edward Alleyn established his "College of God's Gift" (the gift of love) with twelve pupils. Alleyn's School is a direct descendant of Edward Alleyn's original foundation and was established as a boys' school in 1882. It still exists as part of a foundation alongside Dulwich College and JAGS; it split with Dulwich College after the "Dulwich College Act" of 1857, with the upper school of the original foundation moving to a new site further south and the lower school staying put, becoming an independent boys school in 1882 and later also moving to its own site.
A school is an institution designed for the teaching of students (or "pupils") under the direction of teachers. Most countries have systems of formal education, which is commonly compulsory. In these systems, students progress through a series of schools. The names for these schools vary by country (discussed in the Regional section below) but generally include primary school for young children and secondary school for teenagers who have completed primary education. An institution where higher education is taught, is commonly called a university college or university.
In addition to these core schools, students in a given country may also attend schools before and after primary and secondary education. Kindergarten or pre-school provide some schooling to very young children (typically ages 3–5). University, vocational school, college or seminary may be available after secondary school. A school may also be dedicated to one particular field, such as a school of economics or a school of dance. Alternative schools may provide nontraditional curriculum and methods.

On Tuesday the 28th of June 2011 at around 2:15pm, the tower on top of the Duke of Edinburgh Building at Alleyn's School was struck by lightning. As well as damage to the building's roof, the fire alarm and telephone networks were damaged across the school. In this talk, given three days after the event, Physics Teacher James Sheils attempts a description of the facts, a brief tour of our knowledge of the basic process of lightning and a possible explanation of the damage to the building.

This vid belongs to the series of the Forgotten Great Theorists that shows my personal choice of the greatest theorists in golf that are worth learning from in the context of creating a biokinetically sound golf swing motion. From Wikipedia: Sir Henry Thomas Cotton, KCMG, MBE (26 January 1907 -- 22 December 1987) was an English professional golfer known for winning three Open Championships. Cotton was born in Holmes Chapel, Cheshire. A prestigious cricketer, while attending Alleyn's School in Dulwich, South London, he and the other non-prefects were ordered by the six prefects in the school team to transport their cricket clothing back to the school on public transport. After returning to the school, he wrote a letter to the headmaster explaining that he was not amused. The headmaster o...

HAPPY WORLD BOOK DAY!!! Our final stop this week was at Garden House Prep School in Sloane Square. Six classes joined us for our book reading and it was great to see how involved parents were in arranging all the events for children. As the school is based in central London buses whizzed by nearby, whilst the children were captivated by our story. We loved meeting so many delightful children and would like to hank all the staff involved for all their help.
