Type Ев3 [Ev3] (factory type designation possibly 81-713 ) metro coaches were produced from 1974-77 by “ММЗ” [
MMZ] (former
Soviet Union) and were based on types Ечс [Echs] and Еж3 [Ezh3]. (Е)”в”(3) stands for венгерский [vengerskij] =
Hungarian.
Altogether, 95 coaches were built and here are their arrival dates:
12
March 1975: coaches 200-202 + 204 (built in
1974)
13 March 1975: coaches 203 + 205-215 (1974)
16 September 1975: coaches 216-224 (1975)
15 July
1976: coaches 230-259 (→233: 1975, 234→: 1976)
17 July 1976: coaches 228-229 (1975)
17 September 1976: coaches 225-227 + 260-274 (→
227: 1975, 260→: 1976)
9 May
1979: coaches 280-289 (
1977)
19 October 1979: coaches 275-279 + 290-294 (1977)
Each coach consists of four 72 kW traction motors, which enable it to reach a maximum overall speed of 90 km/h. (maximum operational speed limit on line M3 is normally 80 km/h but it has been reduced to 60 km/h since
13 December 2011 due to the poor condition of infrastructure).
First 25 coaches (200-224) operated only on line M2, first in 4-coach sets and from
5 November 1975, in 5-coach sets. Ев3 metros were withdrawn from line M2 on 30
April 2013, the rest of them (coaches 225-294) have operated only on line M3. From the opening of the line on
31 December 1976, they operated in 4-coach sets, from 1
April 1981 in 5-coach sets and since
10 September 1984 in 6-coach sets, thus reaching the maximum length allowed by the platforms.
The first coach to be written off was 233 in
2006. It was followed by coach
286 in 2009; coaches 200-204, 237 and 274 in
2012; coaches 205, 210-216, 220-221 and 223-224 in 2014 and coaches 206, 217-219 and
222 in 2015. In
January 2016, coaches 251 and
266 were sent to “Метровагонмаш” [Metrovagonmash] in
Russia in order to modernise them. Most, if not all, of the other coaches are expected to be modernised as well within the next few years.
