In answer to previous questions, the car was a yellow Renault of some kind, with Lee (my cousin) driving while I recorded, using a JVC video camera with a cable connector to a full size VHS recorder running a 12v lead acid battery. Between parts 1 and 2 we stopped at Bedford park and recorded some students singing and dancing. The first time this was on YT it had 37,000 hits, but it was deleted. This is the third version I have uploaded. The music was recorded by myself and Lee, we were only messing about with my synths at the time and would have done a better job had we known that people would be watching 29 years later.Lee is bass player with Bedford band 'The Life of Riley', check out more ancient clips on Emerton321 YouTube channel.
On The Embankment, what was the Plaza (aka Century, aka The Nite Spot) is demolished, but you can still see red paint on the wall where the projection room would have been. The building still standing was the museum at this time, although it was originally built as an skating rink (afaik, sorry if this is not strictly true). If you watch the Raft Race video on the Emerton321 YT channel, you can see the museum in the background as this was filmed from the other side of the river. The full version of this film is now uploaded, it includes some of the Bedford Park footage and has been digitally stabilized were it had dropped frames at the beginning.

Here some of the original RSOLEs team ( thats R Series Owners Lovers Enthusiasts) are out playing about at Avon Dassett quarry in Warwickshire one November. The vehicles featured are two ex AFS Bedford RL mk1's.

Bedford is the county town of Bedfordshire, in the East of England. It is the administrative centre for the wider Borough of Bedford. According to the former Bedfordshire County Council's estimates, the town had a population of 80,000 in mid 2005, with 19,720 in the adjacent town of Kempston. The Bedford Urban Area which includes Kempston, Elstow and Biddenham forms the 71st largest Urban Area in the UK with a population of 101,928. The wider borough, including a rural area, had a population of 153,000.[citation needed]
The name of the town is thought to derive from the name of a Saxon chief called Beda, and a ford crossing the River Great Ouse. Bedford was a market town for the surrounding agricultural region from the early Middle Ages[citation needed] The Anglo-Saxon King Offa of Mercia was buried in the town in 796. In 886 it became a boundary town separating Wessex and Danelaw. It was the seat of the Barony of Bedford. In 919 Edward the Elder built the town's first known fortress, on the south side of the River Ouse and there received the area's submission. This fortress was destroyed by the Danes. William II gave the barony of Bedford to Paine de Beauchamp who built a new, strong castle. The new Bedford Castle was razed in 1224 and today only a mound remains.

Epsom College is a co-educational independent school in the town of Epsom in Surrey, in Southern England, for pupils aged 13 to 18. Founded in 1853 as a boys' school to provide support for poor members of the medical profession such as pensioners and orphans ("Foundationers"), Epsom's long-standing association with medicine was estimated in 1980 as having helped almost a third of its 10,000 alumni enter that profession. The college caters for both boarding and day pupils. The headmaster is a member of the Headmasters' Conference. The college's patron is HM The Queen.
The school was founded in 1853 by Dr. John Propert as The Royal Medical Benevolent College, the aims of which were to provide accommodation for pensioned medical doctors or their widows in the first instance, and to provide a "liberal education" to 100 sons of "duly qualified medical men" for £25 each year.
The establishment of the College was the culmination of a campaign begun in 1844 by the Provincial Medical and Surgical Association, the forerunner of the British Medical Association. The scheme saw the medical profession was

Sedbergh School is an independent day and boarding school in Sedbergh, Cumbria. It comprises a junior school for children aged 4 to 13 and the main school.
Roger Lupton is thought to have been born at Cautley in the parish of Sedbergh in 1456 and he provided for a Chantry School in Sedbergh in 1525 while he was Provost of Eton. By 1528, land had been bought, a school built, probably on the site of the present School Library, and the foundation deed had been signed, binding the School to St John's College, Cambridge and giving the College power over the appointment of Headmasters. This link to St John's College probably saved Sedbergh in 1546-48 when most chantries were dissolved and their assets seized by Henry VIII's Commission.
Sedbergh was re-established and re-endowed as a Grammar School in 1551 and the fortunes of the School in the coming centuries seem to have depended very much on the character and abilities of the Headmasters with pupil numbers fluctuating and reaching as low a total as 8 day boys in the early 19th century.

No wonder he has no real feelings for his family and shuns the church he once loved!During a high-speed chase, John is killed, but he had previously recorded an address to the graduating class of his alma mater, warning them of the temptations of Communist recruiters, which his mother and father listen to fondly as the leave the graduation, hoping that the students he posthumously addressed will take heed of his warning.

Bedford machete attack captured on CCTV
Anthony Underwood, 27, smashed in the side door of Bedford police station before running off into a busy road waving a three foot long machete and hammer. CCTV footage released by Bedfordshire police show unarmed officers streaming out of the station in pursuit of Underwood to try to protect shoppers from potential injury. The incident ended with a flying rugby tackle by Sgt Phil Boyd, who decided to try to bring Underwood under control when the weapons were suddenly dropped in front of him. In interview later on in the day, Underwood told officers after being arrested that he was desperate to go to prison to try to kick a £300 per day cocaine habit and thought that his actions would get him there. The building still standing was the museum at this time, although it was originally built as an skating rink (afaik, sorry if this is not strictly true). If you watch the Raft Race video on the Emerton321 YT channel, you can see the museum in the background as this was filmed from the other side of the river. The full version of this film is now uploaded, it includes some of the Bedford Park footage and has been digitally stabilized were it had dropped frames at the beginning.

'How to Act in Public' A full length, stabilized and enhanced version of the Bedford UK 1985 video. In answer to previous questions, the car was a yellow Renault of some kind, with Lee (my cousin) driving while I recorded, using a JVC video camera with a cable connector to a full size VHS recorder running a 12v lead acid battery. The first time this was on YT it had 37,000 hits, but it was deleted.The music was recorded by myself and Lee, we were only messing about with my synths at the time and would have done a better job had we known that people would be watching 29 years later.Lee is bass player with Bedford band 'The Life of Riley', check out more ancient clips on Emerton321 YouTube channel.
On The Embankment, what was the Plaza (aka Century, aka The Nite Spot) is demolished, but you can still see red paint on the wall where the projection room would have been. The building still standing was the museum at this time, although it was originally built as a skating rink (afaik, sorry if this is not strictly true). If you watch the Raft Race video on the Emerton321 YT channel, you can see the museum in the background as this was filmed from the other side of the river.

Anthony Underwood, 27, smashed in the side door of Bedford police station before running off into a busy road waving a three foot long machete and hammer.
CCTV footage released by Bedfordshire police show unarmed officers streaming out of the station in pursuit of Underwood to try to protect shoppers from potential injury.
The incident ended with a flying rugby tackle by Sgt Phil Boyd, who decided to try to bring Underwood under control when the weapons were suddenly dropped in front of him.
In interview later on in the day, Underwood told officers after being arrested that he was desperate to go to prison to try to kick a £300 per day cocaine habit and thought that his actions would get him there.

Anthony Underwood, 27, smashed in the side door of Bedford police station before running off into a busy road waving a three foot long machete and hammer.
CCTV footage released by Bedfordshire police show unarmed officers streaming out of the station in pursuit of Underwood to try to protect shoppers from potential injury.
The incident ended with a flying rugby tackle by Sgt Phil Boyd, who decided to try to bring Underwood under control when the weapons were suddenly dropped in front of him.
In interview later on in the day, Underwood told officers after being arrested that he was desperate to go to prison to try to kick a £300 per day cocaine habit and thought that his actions would get him there.

The rankings were determined by the cities scores on 4 global categories: Innovation, Green ranking, Quality of life and digital city.

Halifax, die Hauptstadt der Provinz Nova Scotia, bildet mit Dartmouth und Bedford ein zusammenhängendes Siedlungsgebiet für weit über eine Viertelmillion Menschen. Dartmouth und Halifax trennt der Hafen und verbindet seit Mitte des 18. Jh. eine Fähre.
Außerdem überspannen zwei große Mautbrücken die Bucht.
Seit jeher ist Halifax ein bedeutender Hafen, und somit verwundert es nicht, dass hier die größte militärische Einrichtung Kanadas angesiedelt ist, die Basis der Atlantikflotte. Auch die Küstenwache hat hier ihren Hauptsitz.
Im Zentrum der Hafenfront liegen die restaurierten Backsteinhäuser und Lagerhallen, die so genannten Historic Properties, die heute wie die ausgedienten Hafengebäude mit Kneipen, Einkaufspassagen, Museen und Galerien für ein zahlungskräftiges Publikum gestaltet wurden. Die ganze äußerlich originalgetreue Anlage bietet einen viel besuchten Anziehungspunkt für Touristen, die dabei auch Schiffe beobachten, oder Glasbläsern bei der Arbeit zuschauen können.

Im Zweiten Weltkrieg verloren Segelschiffe ihre Bedeutung; die Bluenose diente zunächst noch als Frachtschiff und sank 1946 bei den westindischen Inseln. In den 60er Jahren wurde die Bluenose II in Lunenburg dem Original nachgebaut und ist heute auf der kanadischen 10 Cent Münze verewigt.
Wenn das Wetter es erlaubt, kann man mit einem der originellen Amphibienfahrzeuge, den Harbour Hoppers, zu einer Stadtrundfahrt aufbrechen.

In addition, two major toll bridges span the bay.
Since time immemorial, Halifax is a major port and thus it is not surprising that the largest military installation in Canada, the base of the Atlantic Fleet and the headquarters of the Coast Guard are settled here.
In the center of the harbor front you see the restored brick buildings and warehouses, the so-called Historic Properties. Together with the disused harbor buildings, they serve today as pubs as well as shopping malls, museums and galleries for a solvent customers. The exterior of the whole complex is true to the original. The Historic Properties are a much-visited attraction for tourists. Here one can watch the ships as well as glass blowers at work.
In the shopping arcades, the usual souvenirs are offered to the tourists. Those who seek patiently can find some rarities.
Always present is the emblem of the town, the bell tower set up at the beginning of the 19th century in front of the citadel on behalf of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent. It should teach the citizens more punctuality.
The casino with an attached hotel next to the Historic Properties dominates the northern part of the harbor front.

Sometimes you can see the sailing ship Bluenose II in the harbor. In the early 20th century, the original Bluenose held the international fishing trophy as the fastest North American sailing ship in its class for eighteen years. During World War II sailing ships lost their meaning; the Bluenose at first still served as a cargo ship and sank in 1946 in the West Indies. In the 60s, the Bluenose II was rebuilt to the original in Lunenburg and is now immortalized on the Canadian 10 cent coin.
Weather permitting, you can take a city tour with one of the original amphibious vehicles, the Harbour Hopper.

The Shifting Faces of Bedford-Stuyvesant

Bedford-Stuyvesant, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, has long been known to be a predominantly black neighborhood. In fact Bedford-Stuyvesant, also known as Bed-Stuy, has been featured in rap videos including videos done by Notorious B.I.G. (Biggy Smalls). Spike Lee’s movie “Do the Right Thing” (1989) was also filmed in Bed-Stuy. Bed-Stuy was known in the past for high crime rates and many feared going through the neighborhood.
Today, the faces of Bed-Stuy are changing. Many Bed-Stuy homes have been renovated. When one enters these homes, the colloquial name “Bed-Stuy” doesn’t seem befitting. One now feels the need to call the whole name Bedford-Stuyvesant because it is rapidly becoming an affluent neighborhood. Many homes in the area are now worth millions post-renovation. Walking through the neighborhood, one sees new faces, primarily white faces. One of the interesting aspects of the gentrification process in Bedford-Stuyvesant is that at this moment, the whites are interspersed with the blacks creating diversity. One may note a young white woman walking her Yorkie and on the corner that she is walking there are blacks who are of a different social class hanging out at the corner bodega. The whites don’t appear to be fearful, but seem to have embraced the neighborhood.
Diversity is a great thing. However, the process of creating a more diverse neighborhood is a problem. The problem is that many of the original black residents have been forced out of their apartments in order to be replaced by new, mostly white, tenants with more means. Sometimes race and economic class correlate. Per the U.S. Census Bureau for 2007-2011, there were 192,160,374 whites (non-Hispanic) in the United States. Out of the white population, 18,959,814 are below poverty level which translates to 9.9% of the white population (non-Hispanic). The U.S. Census Bureau quantified that there are 36,699,584 blacks in the United States out of which 9,472,583 are below poverty level. Therefore, 25.8% of the black population are below the poverty level. The median household income for whites (non-Hispanic) in 2012, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, was $56,570 and the median income for blacks in 2012 was $32,902.
Black tenants of the lower economic class in Bedford-Stuyvesant have been offered money to cover their moving expenses just so that they will move out of the newly renovated buildings or buildings that are in the process of renovation. Some black residents have been back and forth to court just to stay in their rented apartments in which they have years of history and family memories. There are new businesses in the area, namely bars and restaurants. These new businesses are white-owned businesses.
Is this the same trend that was experienced in Washington D.C. in which white Suburbia decided that they wanted to move into the city and bought out the black residents? Is black America, no more than nomads who must move at white America’s financial whim?
According to a Washington Post article (January 18, 2014), written by Marc Fisher, in a Washington D.C. neighborhood which has experienced gentrification, the population “…went from 6 percent white in 2000 to 33 percent white in 2010 — Washingtonians’views about gentrification are polarized along racial and economic lines: Among whites, 77 percent say redevelopment has been a good thing, but 53 percent of blacks say it has not.” Similarly, in Bedford-Stuyvesant, as stated by Alison Gregor in her New York Times article (July 9, 2014), “From 2000 to 2010, the number of white residents grew from 2.4 percent to 15 percent, while the number of black residents shrank from 75 to 60 percent, according to census data…In the western half of the neighborhood, the changes have been even more dramatic, with white residents making up more than 25 percent of the population, and black residents 49 percent.” As Bedford-Stuyvesant becomes more affluent, the faces are shifting from black to white. Again, economic class and race are many times synonymous.
Historically blacks have been poorer than whites in this country. Without economic power, one has no power. Some of the original black residents have been uprooted from their familiar dwellings and have been forced to move out in the name of gentrification. Is this process fair to the original black residents of Bedford-Stuyvesant?

Duncan takes adventure travel to a whole new height, which includes taking a flying car across the Sahara to Timbuktu or a classic car rally's from Beijing to Paris. His most memorable trips have been with The Adventurists. Who else would drive a fur covered Bedford van to Cameroon or terrible Chinese motorbikes across the mountains, jungles and deserts of Peru? You couldn't' make up half of the stories Duncan tells. This is the stuff Top Gear only dream of.

The first job I did; obviously, was to take a flying car to Timbuktu. It's obvious isn't it. It's the first gig you're going to get, which was an amazing experience. And this is what made me think we were onto something, is that I saw an article in the newspaper about it, and they were flying to Timbuktu , and I thought hang on a second, I've travelled through the Sahara, I've been to Timbuktu five or six times, maybe this might be useful to them, so I fired off a little bit of an email, like an hour later I got a phone call 'yes, when can we meet', and it was like, ok this knowledge is going to be useful to some people, and so the long story short, we took a flying car to Timbuktu, and it really did fly, it's based upon Para motor technology which is basically a parachute normally, that and someone with a lawnmower engine on their back and this engine powers them into the air and this completely mad scientist Gilo built this incredible machine; and it was led by Neil Laugton, ex SAS proper adventurer. And we disappeared off across the Sahara desert having amazing adventures, and believe it or not we actually made it to Timbuktu. It was an incredible adventure.
Some of you might of heard of 'The Adventurists', how many here, just a quick show of hands. The future of travel as far as I'm concerned. The Adventurists are brilliant. If you haven't had a look; go have a look at their website. The idea is the world is way to safe now, health and safety's gone mad, you cannot have a proper adventure anymore, that you are taken somewhere, your hand will be held and there's backup and there's support, basically people like me around to make sure you'll get to where you need to go. And for some people that's great, that's what they want. But, for The Adventurists set up by Mr Tom ten years ago, was a drunken idea in the pub, where they thought 'what's the stupidest thing that we can come up with, how can we have a proper adventure?. And they decided the best thing to do was try and drive a Fiat Panda from the UK to Ulaanbaatar, so they gave it a go. They didn't get there but they had a brilliant time in the process. The next year they tried again and they had three mates that came with them and three cars. This year will be the tenth year anniversary, 350 teams battling across the Mongolian steppe in the crappest cars you've ever seen, with no backup, no routes, no maps, no preparation; or as much or little preparation as you like. The point being, and I heartily agree with this, it's when you get lost, it's when you break down, it's when things go wrong, that you have the adventure, and actually if you make it to Ulaanbaatar you've almost failed. You shouldn't make it. And people take all sorts of weird and wonderful things.
So I organised one to Africa. They wanted to do one down to Cameroon. And the idea is each team has to raise money for charity. I think they've raised over £4 ½ million now with the various adventures they do all over the world and they came to me and said 'right we want to do one in Africa; can you help', and I thought this sounded like a great laugh. And before I knew it I ended up dressed as The Stig driving round in the top gear test track in an Austin seven with various other ridiculous cars in tow behind about to set off across Africa, across the Sahara desert to get to Cameroon where we then sold the cars, we set up an auction and we sold the cars to charity and we also put on a music festival down there. It was an amazing experience. But, this is what I love about it. These guys came in fur covered Bedford Rascals, they bought a Chesterfield sofa with them and they dressed in tweed. It's just that brilliant British eccentricity, if so you haven't looked at The Adventurists website; I highly recommend that you do. And I found myself in ridiculous situations. Now whenever I find myself going 'how did I get here' and sort of pinching myself, this is one of them, this is me, we organised a parade through Limbe town...

And this is what made me think we were onto something, is that I saw an article in the newspaper about it, and they were flying to Timbuktu , and I thought hang on a second, I've travelled through the Sahara, I've been to Timbuktu five or six times, maybe this might be useful to them, so I fired off a little bit of an email, like an hour later I got a phone call 'yes, when can we meet', and it was like, ok this knowledge is going to be useful to some people, and so the long story short, we took a flying car to Timbuktu, and it really did fly, it's based upon Para motor technology which is basically a parachute normally, that and someone with a lawnmower engine on their back and this engine powers them into the air and this completely mad scientist Gilo built this incredible machine; and it was led by Neil Laugton, ex SAS proper adventurer. And we disappeared off across the Sahara desert having amazing adventures, and believe it or not we actually made it to Timbuktu. It was an incredible adventure.
Some of you might of heard of 'The Adventurists', how many here, just a quick show of hands. The future of travel as far as I'm concerned. The Adventurists are brilliant. If you haven't had a look; go have a look at their website. The idea is the world is way to safe now, health and safety's gone mad, you cannot have a proper adventure anymore, that you are taken somewhere, your hand will be held and there's backup and there's support, basically people like me around to make sure you'll get to where you need to go. And for some people that's great, that's what they want. But, for The Adventurists set up by Mr Tom ten years ago, was a drunken idea in the pub, where they thought 'what's the stupidest thing that we can come up with, how can we have a proper adventure?. And they decided the best thing to do was try and drive a Fiat Panda from the UK to Ulaanbaatar, so they gave it a go. They didn't get there but they had a brilliant time in the process. The next year they tried again and they had three mates that came with them and three cars. This year will be the tenth year anniversary, 350 teams battling across the Mongolian steppe in the crappest cars you've ever seen, with no backup, no routes, no maps, no preparation; or as much or little preparation as you like. The point being, and I heartily agree with this, it's when you get lost, it's when you break down, it's when things go wrong, that you have the adventure, and actually if you make it to Ulaanbaatar you've almost failed. You shouldn't make it. And people take all sorts of weird and wonderful things.
So I organised one to Africa. They wanted to do one down to Cameroon. And the idea is each team has to raise money for charity. I think they've raised over £4 ½ million now with the various adventures they do all over the world and they came to me and said 'right we want to do one in Africa; can you help', and I thought this sounded like a great laugh. And before I knew it I ended up dressed as The Stig driving round in the top gear test track in an Austin seven with various other ridiculous cars in tow behind about to set off across Africa, across the Sahara desert to get to Cameroon where we then sold the cars, we set up an auction and we sold the cars to charity and we also put on a music festival down there. It was an amazing experience. But, this is what I love about it. These guys came in fur covered Bedford Rascals, they bought a Chesterfield sofa with them and they dressed in tweed. It's just that brilliant British eccentricity, if so you haven't looked at The Adventurists website; I highly recommend that you do. And I found myself in ridiculous situations. Now whenever I find myself going 'how did I get here' and sort of pinching myself, this is one of them, this is me, we organised a parade through Limbe town...
