awag ng Tanghalan, a new segment on ABS-CBN’s
It’s Showtime, calls for new talents from Luzon,
Visayas, Mindanao and
Metro Manila.
Four contestants will battle daily to prove their singing prowess to the madlang people and the jury.
However, when the singer goes out of tune, he or she receives a gong from
Jong Hilario, signaling that the contestant has to stop singing.
The defending champions receive
P25,
000 while runners-up get P5,000 as consolation prize.
Nowadays, we have been receiving a barrage of queries regarding Tawag ng Tanghalan at
Showtime.
To those still unbelievably unfamiliar with
Nora Aunor, she was discovered in Tawag ng Tanghalan in the ’60s along with
Pepe Pimentel.
And now Tawag ng Tanghalan is already part of It’s Showtime, which has been getting a whole lot of notices from those in the entertainment sector.
Edgar “
Bobot” Mortiz, who also started in Tawag ng Tanghalan, has moved up the ladder of success as entertainment head, director and now part of the jury in Showtime.
OPM icons
Rey Valera and
Rico J. Puno, as well as Edgar, Nyoy Volante and
Yeng Constantino were appointed judges of the competition. Other jurors are
Karylle Tatlonghari-Yuzon,
Mitoy Yonting,
Karla Estrada and
K Brosas.
As we watched the first few episodes of Tawag ng Tanghalan at Showtime, we had the opportunity to find out what it was that endeared those in the entertainment industry to the show.
Karylle said that the most important is that one’s involvement has soul, a sentiment shared by Mitoy.
Meanwhile, Dominador Aviola Jr. from Mindanao was declared defending champion.
The idea of having people from all over the country as contestants is a most welcome innovation that gives a touch of mystery to the entire competition.
