Every been on a conference call?
If you are in the network marketing or home business arena then most likely
you have been on numerous conference calls.
Have you ever hosted a conference call?
I have hosted hundreds of them and have been on many more.
Hosting conference calls is a skill and an important skill to learn.
When you build a team of people you will want to communicate
with them and hosting a conference call is a simple way to do that.
You will want to be professional and show your participants that you
are skilled and proficient in what you are doing.
If you are fumbling around and do not know how to run the call then
that will show through and you will look unprofessional to your
audience.
So
I am going to go over a few things you should be doing on your
conference call to make yourself look like the professional you are.
First you want to make sure you know all the access and recording functions
on your particular conferencing system.
There are codes for hosts and codes for participants. Make sure you do
not give out the host code to anyone who is not a host.
I was a participant on some conference calls once and the
host was lax in giving out the host code. What ended up happening is
dozens of people would log in with the host code and there
was no way for the host to mute those callers out.
This is important. You will have the ability to mute everyone
on the participant line out, but if they come in on the host
line you cannot mute them.
Creates lots of issues and will make the call unprofessional.
Take control of your call.
I host a daily conference call and I keep it under control at
all times.
Recording of your calls.
This is great if you want to give people access to your calls
for future reference or to maybe create a product. It will depend
on how you want to use them.
My recommendation would be to get in the habit of recording everything.
You never know when you could use that recording for other
purposes like creating a product or using it as a bonus.
Before the call you will want to come on a few minutes
early to greet your guests. I usually come on from 5-10
minutes before the call and greet people as they come on.
Talk to them a bit, say hello and make them feel like
they are welcome.
Some people let everyone come on and all you hear is
people talking over one another. This is a personal preference
but I like the personal touch. If you as the host are there
directing traffic then it is more orderly and you can control the
flow of the conversation.
Sometimes you will have someone taking introductions for you.
This is another skill that is worth learning. The speakers
will get to know you, because you are taking introductions
you will get to know the speakers.
Great for making connections.
If you are taking introductions then you will be introducing
the speaker.
You should know at least a few things about the speaker so you
can edify them in front of the audience. This is important to
set the stage.
In return the speaker will usually edify you
also. It does not have to be long but just a few words about them.
For example:
Diane Hochman is a 13 year veteran of the home business
industry and she has spoken on stage at
No Excuses and
Live The Dream
to name just a couple and is a top performer in her primary company
....
Then the speaker will take over the call.
As the speaker here are a few things to consider so you have
a professional call.
Be prepared for your call.
Seems pretty standard but it is worth saying. If you are new to
hosting conference calls you want to have a plan and outline of
what you will be talking about.
This will make the call more informative and helpful
for your attendees.
There is nothing worse than getting on a call and just hearing
someone rambling on and on.
Keep it to the
point and my opinion is the shorter the better.
At least in the beginning.
Once you build a following you can
experiment but be conscious of your attendees time.
Every conferencing system has different codes so make sure
you have them written down in front of you in the beginning
and memorized so you know what codes do what.
Those are some pointers running a conference call.
Below are a couple
of choices for conference call systems. A free service and a paid.
