Terence Mckenna - The Origins of the Time Wave

I haven't seen this uploaded in full on Youtube, so I thought I would. He goes into how the Time Wave arose, describing the encounter he and his brother had with "The Logos" within the mushroom trance during their 1971 journey to the Amazon. This lecture helps fill in a lot of the gaps in the origins of the Time Wave, and what he thought about it. I suggest this video be watched in tandem with another lecture of his called "The Grammar of Ecstasy" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KLQr_jZrPQ, in which he goes even deeper into the mechanics of the Time Wave, taking us through the exact process of how he extracted the Time Wave out of the I Ching. Many think that the Time Wave is simply obsolete, because nothing happened on the winter solstice of 2012. My take on the Time Wave is that it probably isn't what Terence believed it to be. And his brother, Dennis, takes the same stance. I think there is something of astronomical significance in the Time Wave. The fact that nothing happened in 2012 is basically arbitrary, mainly because it could simply be that Terence picked the wrong end date. In that case, the structure of the Time Wave as he invented it could be accurate, it is just that he placed the end date too early. I think that it is more than that. I don't think that he just picked the wrong end date, and that in 2020, or whenever, we'll all experience the collapse of physics and the arrival of the Transcendental Object at the End of Time. I think that the Chinese were aware of what they were doing when they created the I Ching using 64 hexagrams of 6 lines each, and that the (fairly) complex wave form that Terence extracted out of the I Ching is significant, and deserves concentrated efforts of study from those who understand astronomy, astrology, mathematics, etc. The Mayans never thought the world would end on the winter solstice of 2012; they simply understood that there are very large cycles of time that are embedded into the Universe, galaxy, solar system, and therefore our experience on Earth, and that 2012 marked a transitional point in a cycle of time lasting roughly 5126 years (with its beginning in 3114 BC). Interestingly, this cosmic cycle lasting 5126 years lines up with unbelievable accuracy to the Kali Yuga cycle lasting 5127 years (beginning in 3102 BC and ending in 2025 AD). There is clearly some astronomical cycle of time that these cultures, literally on opposite sides of the Earth from each other, had perceived, studied, and recorded. Could Terence's Time Wave theory be some sort of map for the core cycle of progressed time that these ancient cultures perceived? I don't know. Very possibly. I don't think that it can be used in the way he though it could: as a map for the ingress of novelty into the temporal realm. But... the mathematics behind it could be in resonance with a large cosmic cycle. We already see that the I ching itself has 384 lines in total (64 hexagrams of 6 lines). And the lunar cycle has 384 days in it. The lunar cycle is the smallest astronomical cycle that we experience. It could be that the orbital distance/cycle of all the astronomical bodies are in resonance with each other, creating a significance in each body's orbital distance/time of orbit. and, as Terence points out in this lecture, DNA runs on a sequence of 64 codons, just like the I Ching runs on a sequence of 64 hexagrams. It could very well be that the ancient sentiment "as above, so below" carries more truth than we ever imagined. All of organized matter in the scale of size and time that we inhabit could be larger resonances of the atomic and molecular world. This means that any sequences of organization in time and space in the atomic and molecular world would replicate itself and arise to the world of larger organization that we inhabit, and from our level of organization to a larger cosmic level of organization. This is essentially a fractal view of reality, a world view that finds all levels of organization in time and space as integrated into one ultimate sequence of organization. This is what Terence envisioned with his Time Wave. Whether his model of this vision of reality is correct or not does not discredit the philosophical idea that it represents. This idea that all of time is an adumbration of an eschatological point at the end and outside of time is not his idea. We see this as the core principle of many, if not all, ancient religions. It's the idea that the temporal realm of becoming exists in the shadow of a perfect and completed state of being--and, really, not a state of "being" at all, but a complete and unified state of non vibratory silence that is the beginning and end of all processes. Terence understood this as "The Transcendental Object at the End of Time". I don't think that Terence's Time Wave theory was a failure. I think that it was a beautiful and ingenious model of the oldest and deepest intuition of human beings and deserves intelligent discourse!
