Barney Hall (June 24, 1932 – January 26, 2016) was an American sports commentator for Motor Racing Network, formerly calling NASCAR races. Hall has commentated races for over 50 years. Hall is considered as one of the best NASCAR commentators of all-time. MRN director David Hyatt stated, "Motor Racing Network is ‘The Voice of NASCAR’ and Barney Hall is the voice of MRN."
Hall was born at Elkin, North Carolina in 1932. After serving four years in the United States Navy, Hall's career started in the 1950s working for local radio stations in Elkin, particularly at WIFM-FM for 13 years. He became the first person to work on the public address system at Bristol Motor Speedway, which was stated as "dumb luck". When Motor Racing Network started in 1970, Hall became a turn announcer, before becoming a booth announcer. Hall has commentated all but three Daytona 500s in his career, and in the 1979 edition, Hall introduced his catchphrase, "flag-to-flag coverage of The Great American Race." In 2007, he was inducted into the National Motorsports Press Association (NMPA) Hall of Fame. On May 23, 2012, the NASCAR Hall of Fame announced the creation of the Squier-Hall Award for Media Excellence, named for Hall and former MRN reporter Ken Squier. On July 5, 2014, Hall announced that the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona would be his final broadcast.
In architecture, a hall is a relatively large space enclosed by a roof and walls. In the Iron Age, a mead hall was such a simple building and was the residence of a lord and his retainers. Later, rooms were partitioned from it, and the space next to the front door became the entrance hall. Today, the (entrance) hall of a house is the space next to the front door or vestibule leading to the rooms directly and/or indirectly. Where the hall inside the front door of a house is elongated, it may be called a passage, corridor (from Spanish corredor used in El Escorial and 100 years later in Castle Howard) or hallway.
The term hall is often used to designate a British or Irish country house such as a hall house, or specifically a Wealden hall house, and manor houses.
In later medieval Europe, the main room of a castle or manor house was the great hall. In a medieval building, the hall was where the fire was kept. With time, its functions as dormitory, kitchen, parlour and so on were divided off to separate rooms or, in the case of the kitchen, a separate building.

The Coke Zero 400 powered by Coca-Cola is an annual NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock car race at Daytona International Speedway. First held in 1959, the event consists of 160 laps, 400-mile (640 km), and is the second of two major stock car events held at Daytona on the Sprint Cup circuit, the other being the Daytona 500. Since its inception, it has been traditionally held on or around United States' Independence Day. Since 1988, the race has been scheduled for the first Saturday of July closest to July 4. In 1998, it became the first restrictor plate and Daytona race to be held at night.
A ten-year contract, starting in 2008, between Atlanta-based Coca-Cola and International Speedway Corporation (ISC), made Coke the official soft drink, official sparkling beverage and official water for ten of ISC's operated motorsports facilities and the Daytona 500. The company replaced Pepsi-Cola, a 19-year race sponsorship, to showcase Coke Zero as the race's title brand through 2018.
The event is recently known for its close finishes, posting a (.154 ds) margin of victory in its last 21 races including the T-4th closest margin of victory in Sprint Cup history at (.005 ms); high speed high-density crashes under the lights, and a broad display of fireworks during post-race celebrations.
Coca-Cola Zero, or Coke Zero, is a product of The Coca-Cola Company. It is a low-calorie (0.3 kcal per 100ml) variation of Coca-Cola specifically marketed to men, who were shown to associate diet drinks with women. It is marketed as having a taste that is indistinguishable from standard Coca-Cola, as opposed to Diet Coke which has a different flavor profile.
The Coca-Cola Zero logo has generally featured the script Coca-Cola logo in red with white trim on a black background, with the word "zero" underneath in lower case in the geometric typeface Avenir (or a customized version of it). Some details have varied from country to country.
All versions of Coke Zero sold in various countries are based on the same flavoring formula, and all are carbonated. One liter of Coke Zero contains 96 mg caffeine. Additionally, artificial sweeteners are used. In the U.S., this includes aspartame and acesulfame potassium. However, the exact combination of sweeteners and preservatives used varies from market to market.
Motor Racing Network prides itself on being "The Voice of NASCAR" as it now enters it 44th year of broadcasting. It could also be said that Barney Hall, who's been with the network since Day 1, is "The Voice of MRN."
Barney Hall, the Hall of Fame broadcaster of MRN Radio, came and visited the TNT booth during the Saturday rain delay of the 2014 Coke Zero 400 to talk about his career. The Coke Zero 400 was his last MRN broadcast before retirement. Pretty much every NASCAR fan has heard Hall's voice at some point or another listening to NASCAR races. For me, him and Allen Bestwick (later Joe Moore) were my only connections to NASCAR as I didn't have cable growing up. I would turn on our country station and listen to the races every weekend in 1999 and 2000 and I would hear his iconic voice when the race was starting. Sadly, he passed away on January 26, 2016 at the age of 83. Rest in peace, Barney. Credit to TNT.
Traditionally this race is run on Saturday night, but NASCAR finally got this race started on Sunday morning. This was Barney Hall's last race broadcast from the booth for MRN (The Motor Racing Network). This is just the first lap of the race, but it's still exciting...and it's Daytona!

Christmas is fast approaching, so Barney and the children are quite excited. They help decorate the caboose for the Christmas holidays and build a "thinking" snowman in the park. Then they visit a tree planted by Beth's great-great-grandfather that's now the prettiest, oldest tree in the park.
