This week, "RuPaul's Drag Race" said goodbye to one of the sweetest queens to ever walk the runway, Puerto Rico's Cynthia Lee Fontaine. Examiner.com caught up with her after her elimination when she revealed her take on season eight and talked about a health scare she had on the show.
Examiner.com: What was going through your mind when RuPaul asked you to sashay away?
Cynthia: In the moment, I was a little sad because my expectation was to get further in the competition. But at the same time, I get the satisfaction that I got an opportunity to meet RuPaul and now I have a big drag family because all my sisters on the show are amazing and sweet. They have a lot of talent and personality. Plus working with World of Wonder and Logo TV was just phenomenal, so I was feeling sad but I am also feeling very happy and satisfied with myself.
Examiner.com: Do you have any regrets?
Cynthia: To be very honest, no. I would not change anything, even my sexy Hooters look for the wheels on the runway. I love it and I love red. Everything happened with a purpose, and my purpose and my journey on the show was to represent Latins, all my Hispanic community, to be positive all the time, to be happy. [Be happy] even if you have obstacles or inconveniences on the road, which I had because my health was compromised on the show. I started experiencing symptoms and after I filmed the show I got diagnosed with liver cancer, stage one. I'm ok, I'm fantastic now. I just needed only one chemo treatment in September and October. I'm recovered and I feel great. Right now I'm representing all those cancer survivors, encouraging others to take care of themselves and be positive.
Examiner.com: What challenges were your most looking forward that you think you would have killed had you been there?
Cynthia: The Snatch Game! I'm going to give you a clue [as to who I was going to be]: "Joe Manganiello, I'm in love with my husband. 'Modern Family' is so good! Did you buy my perfume? My perfume is so nice, oh my God, I love it!" Sofia Vergara! In my case, one of the things that I enjoy in my regular drag shows [is doing] everything. Like my motto says, 'be sexy as a goddess and funny as a clown.' I just discovered that I was funny! So I was like 'let's take advantage of that' and I was preparing at home for my performance in Snatch Game. It's ok, I can do it in my show now.
Examiner.com: What's next for you?
Cynthia: Right now I'm working on "Memoirs of my CuCu," my YouTube show which I'm excited about because we hit like 25,000 views and we have a lot of subscribers. Even all my sisters from "RuPaul's Drag Race" said yes to interviewing them on my show and are very supportive. I'd [also] like to do acting but that's for the future. And for Mis Amores, [my fans], thank you so very much for all your love and support, all your messages, all the social media supporting me and my sisters on the show. I feel so blessed to have all of that in my life. There's more CuCu to show in the future, so thank you!
Cynthia will be appearing at RuPaul's DragCon May 7th and 8th in Los Angeles.
