Allmusic's Scott Yanow wrote, "Dizzy Gillespie's contributions to jazz were huge. One of the greatest jazz trumpeters of all time (some would say the best), Gillespie was such a complex player that his contemporaries ended up copying Miles Davis and Fats Navarro instead, and it was not until Jon Faddis's emergence in the 1970s that Dizzy's style was successfully recreated . . . Arguably Gillespie is remembered, by both critics and fans alike, as one of the greatest jazz trumpeters of all time."
Gillespie was a trumpet virtuoso and improviser, building on the virtuoso style of Roy Eldridge but adding layers of harmonic complexity previously unknown in jazz. His beret and horn-rimmed spectacles, his scat singing, his bent horn, pouched cheeks and his light-hearted personality were essential in popularizing bebop.
William Patrick "Billy" Corgan, Jr. (born March 17, 1967) is an American musician, producer, and occasional poet best known as the frontman and sole permanent member of The Smashing Pumpkins. Formed by Corgan and guitarist James Iha in Chicago, Illinois, in 1987, the band quickly gained steam with the addition of bassist D'arcy Wretzky and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin. The band's direction has largely been driven by Corgan through his confessional lyrics, grandiose production values, and virtuosic musical interplay, notably with Chamberlin. In three years, The Smashing Pumpkins had transformed themselves into a major label success. Strong album sales and large-scale tours propelled the band's increasing fame in the 1990s, while Chamberlin's drug problems escalated until he had to be fired. The Pumpkins continued as a three-piece until Chamberlin rejoined the band in 1999, then broke up in 2000. Corgan started a new band with Chamberlin right away, called Zwan, and after their demise, he released a solo album (The Future Embrace) and a collection of poetry (Blinking with Fists) before setting his sights on reforming the Smashing Pumpkins.

"1984" (written as MCMLXXXIV on the album's front cover) is the sixth studio album by American hard rock band Van Halen and was released on 9th January 1984. An amazing progressive rock-fusion prodigy which remained obscured for a very long time since the recording of the only one longplay from Light Year has not been issued not until 2010. This piece of furious fuison was recorded in famous Wally Heider Studios in San Francisco in 1974 so it had remained unissued for 36 years. Thanks to 'Green Tree Records' who rediscovered the album we can now have one on our own either on CD or LP Vinyl (GTR 135). I recommend to any fan of Gong, Soft Machine, Nucleus or Magma, but anyone will not be disappointed if is not allergic to woman's vocal and a bit of zeuhlish prog style.

An electronics expert searching for evidence of aliens picks up signals that he believes are from an alien spacecraft--and they are coming from a lake near town.
Journey to the Edge of Tomorrow. UFO's...The Truth About Them Might Just Blow Your Mind for the Last Time
This is an incredible movie. It's not got everything! No plot, no tension, no character (let alone character development) - what it HAS got is a virtuoso display of incredibly bad direction and a script that gives the word meaningless a new... er... meaning.
I suspect the director must have once had the concept of the Line of Interest (or the Centre Line, Director's Line call it what you will*) explained to him at some time but either forgot it almost immediately or just didn't get it because the camera is plonked down any old place and they shot whatever came into the viewfinder. Several times we get to watch people have long telephone conversations, but only from one end so we get to watch them say things like: "Yes I know all that." without having any idea what they have just been told. There are boom mikes in shot, tracks clearly visible, the DP does a great line in camera flares over people's faces and the sound levels are all over the place whole swathes of "dialogue" obscured by lousy songs. Though to be fair the sound problems may just be the quality of the DVD copy I saw; there was a lot of extraneous noise on the soundtrack (the songs ARE pretty sh1tty though). The script is bizarre; I honestly had no idea what was going on for the entire length of the film.
The film opens with 3 minutes of mocumentary footage of people relating UFO experiences to a TV reporter. Then the opening credits (which were illegible on the copy I watched). Open on a young man trying to make a phone call then a portentous Voice Over (a la Ed Wood) tells us this young man is about to overhear something that will change his life forever. He somehow accidentally overhears two military types authorising a scramble of jets to investigate a UFO. The young man stares out of the window for a long time then phones someone else to make an appointment with someone else who turns out to be a psychic UFO spotter (or something). He then goes to meet his professor who lectures him (and us) at great length about the possibility of Life in the Universe. He goes to see 'Dr Mansfield' (whoever she is, we aren't told) and they have a conversation that really started the 'What the hell are they talking about?' ball rolling. The last line of the scene is "When a circle is drawn - they meet." Work backwards from there. After that it was a downhill slide into utter incomprehensibility. Ending in a low rent 2001: A Space Odyssey rip-off and the final bars of Khachaturian's Spartacus playing as the alien's space ship, trapped under a lake for a thousand years, zooms off to the stars powered only by Alan's imagination. Yep, you read that right, a bunch of aliens sat at the bottom of a lake for a thousand years waiting for a bad actor with a bald wig on to come and power their spaceship with his imagination. Insane.
This was an incredible sleeper that was hyped as some type of spooky, mysterious story regarding a UFO encounter. Instead it was a boring, painfully slow yarn lacking any special effects or visual excitement. The script called for the characters to talk about something in a lab; then go to a wilderness location, sit down and talk about something; then go to another location, sit down and talk about something; then go to another location, sit down and talk some more; then maybe decide to sit down in a forest location and rehash what they just talked about. Had the dialogue been any good or even slightly stimulating, then perhaps this would have been OK; but this dull script felt as though it had been written in haste or just ad-libbed by the actors in order to get it released quickly to take advantage of the UFO craze of the seventies.

"1984" (written as MCMLXXXIV on the album's front cover) is the sixth studio album by American hard rock band Van Halen and was released on 9th January 1984. It remains Van Halen's most successful album in terms of sales, with 10 million copies shipped in the United States, and U.S. chart performance. "1984" reached number two on the Billboard 200 album chart and remained there for five weeks, behind Michael Jackson's "Thriller", on which Eddie Van Halen played the guitar solo on the track "Beat It".
Each successive Van Halen album had charted higher than its predecessor - and by 1983, Van Halen was arguably the most popular rock band in the world; however, during 1984 - with Van Halen's album, "1984" - the band achieved the pinnacle of its commercial and critical success.
"1984" produced several memorable singles, including "Jump", which reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, the top 13 hits "Panama" and "I'll Wait", and the MTV sensation "Hot For Teacher". 1984 was the last, full-length Van Halen album to feature the band's original frontman David Lee Roth until 2012's "A Different Kind Of Truth" and the final full-length album with all four original members.

The iconic cover was created by graphic artist Margo Nahas. It was not specifically commissioned; Nahas had been asked to create a cover that featured four chrome women dancing, but declined. Her husband brought her portfolio to the band anyway, and from that material they chose the painting of a cherub stealing cigarettes that was ultimately used. The model was Carter Helm, who was the child of one of Nahas' best friends, who she photographed holding a candy cigarette. The cover, featuring as it did the smoking cherub, was 'censored' in the UK by the addition of a sticker that obscured the cigarette in the cherub's hand, and the packet of cigarettes.

FULL: President Obama Speech at 50th Anniversary of March on Washington, Pays Tribute to MLK
President Obama's Address on 50th Anniversary of MLK 'I Have a Dream' Speech
Barack Obama marks anniversary of Martin Luther King's 'I have a Dream' speech
Fifty years after Martin Luther King delivered his "I have a Dream" speech, Barack Obama assesses America's progress.
(USAToday) WASHINGTON — In his address to thousands who gathered on the Washington Mall on Wednesday to mark the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, President Obama paid tribute to civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. and to the anonymous millions who stood by King's side during the civil rights fight of the 1960s.
Obama remembered those who could not marry the ones they loved because of so-called anti-miscegenation laws, African-American soldiers who fought for freedom abroad that they could not enjoy on U.S. soil and white Americans who could not stand by discrimination and sacrificed sometimes with their own blood .
"Because they marched, America became more fair," Obama said. "America changed for you and me and the entire world grew strength from that example."
Before Obama took the stage on Wednesday, former presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton offered stirring tributes to King.
Carter lamented what King might have thought about recent the Supreme Court ruling that gutted voting right laws that he fought for or the high unemployment rate and incarceration rates plaguing the African-American community.
"There is a tremendous agenda ahead of us," Carter said.
Clinton also spoke about the racial divide that he said still exists in the USA and the myriad problems facing the nation. But he also suggested that King would be disappointed by the partisan division that roils Washington. But Clinton posited that King "did not die to hear his heirs whine about political gridlock."
"It's time to stop complaining and put our shoulders against the stubborn gates holding Americans back," Clinton said.
Obama wondered if over the years the progress that came in closing racial disparities as a result of the fight by King and his contemporaries obscured that the March on Washington was not just about a pursuit of racial justice but also about solving economic inequity.
"They were there seeking jobs as well as justice, not just the absence of oppression but the presence of economic opportunity. For those it profit a man, Dr. King would ask, to sit at an integrated lunch counter if he can't afford the meal."
When it comes to economic opportunity--the idea that anyone can approve their lot through honest work--Obama said the country has fallen short of King's vision not just for the black community but all working Americans
While there have been examples of success in the African-American community that would have been unimaginable a half-century ago, black unemployment remains nearly twice as high as unemployment for whites and Latinos are close behind. Meanwhile, middle class Americans wages have stagnated while corporate profits have soared, Obama lamented.
"The position of all working Americans, regardless of color, has eroded, making the dream Dr. King described more elusive," Obama said.
Obama was just a toddler when king delivered his seminal "I Have a Dream" address 50 years ago, but the words of the civil rights leader have served as a rhetorical and moral guidepost throughout his presidency.
As he emerged as a long-shot presidential candidate in 2008, Obama often quoted King on the campaign trail that the "arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice." And in his 2008 election night victory speech, Obama echoed King's "I've Been to the Mountaintop" speech, when he intoned "the road ahead will be long, our climb will be steep."
And in the lead up to the 50th anniversary commemoration of the March on Washington on Wednesday, Obama, the son of a black man from Kenya and a white woman from Kansas, has embraced his role as the personification of King's dream while repeatedly questioning whether the nation has lived up to that dream.
His address was the culminating moment for Obama in a summer in which he has repeatedly reflected on King's legacy and taken stock of the country's progress and failures to create a more economically and racially just society.

UFO Target Earth - Full Length Scifi Alien Movies

Van Halen - 1984 [Full Album] (Remastered)

Album Cover:
