Raj Kapoor, known as the 'Showman' of Indian cinema Raj Kapoor had received many awards throughout his career, including 9 "Filmfare Awards". The Government of India honoured him with the "Padma Bhushan" in 1971 and "Dadasaheb Phalke" Award in 1987 - the highest award for cinematic excellence in India. In 2001, he was honoured with "Best Director of the Millennium" by Stardust Awards. He was named "Showman of the Millennium" by Star Screen Awards in 2002.His films have some of the best songs of Bollywood which are famous even today. Raj Kapoor is still known as one of the best directors of India who had the knack of getting the best out of any one, since he had mastered all departments of film making. Raj Kapoor was born in Peshawar, British India (present day Pakistan), to a Khatri family of kapoor's and Ramsarni (Rama) Devi Kapoor (née Mehra). He was the eldest of six children in the family. He was the grandson of Dewan Basheshwarnath Kapoor and great-grandson of Dewan Keshavmal Kapoor, part of the famous Kapoor family. Two of Raj's brothers are actors Shashi Kapoor (a.k.a. Balbir Raj Kapoor) and the late Shammi Kapoor (aka Shamsher Raj Kapoor); the other two died in infancy. He also had a sister named Urmila Sial.

While Rajkumar gets arrested on a number of occasions and serves time behind bars, Jaggannath is married, ostensibly lives a honest life, but is a gangster in reality. Rajkumar masquerades as Raj Kapoor, meets with heiress, Madhu Sharma, and both fall in love - much to the chagrin of her uncle - who has already arranged her marriage elsewhere. Fate will then unite the unknowing brothers, pit them against each other, and Madhu will shun Rajkumar, while Jaggannath's expectant wife will get a rude awakening when she is told about her husband's criminal background. Watch as things spiral out of control for the duo, leading to Jaggannath's arrest with the Judge about to award a death sentence.

A rich industrialist, Sonanand Dharmachand, approaches Ranbir, hires him to work for him, and starts exploiting Raju's conscience by showing him money. Plot : The film opens up with a distraught tensed up Ranjit watching his mother and his sister and their adopted brother closely. He is wearing a depressing look as he cannot earn and feed his family members properly being a handicapped person. He walks with help of walking stick. He decides that its better to commit suicide and die rather than giving trouble to others and also seeing his family members struggle for survival. His mother loves him a lot although he is limping and jobless. She asks him not to worry and be happy. Their landlord has asked them to vacate the premises the next day. Tension looming around his mind, Ranjit decides to go out early in the morning and jump from the bridge above the railway tracks and give away his life. Ranjit carries out his plan. In the next scenes, he starts walking without help from any stick. He meets a man who calls himself as Captain and he says that he is the only person who can see Ranjith right now. That fat man introduces himself as Swaraj Singh Captain and says that he is a ghost and that Ranjit has died and is now a ghost too. Captain takes him along everywhere and shows him how many other people are roaming as ghosts in the world after committing suicides. Captain says the ghosts attain salvation only when their unfulfilled wish gets fulfilled. Captain asks him why did he commit suicide. Ranjit tells him his story of how he was a badminton player and how rich they were. He had even fell in love with a richer girl. The rest of the story is about Ranjit's description of what drove him to poverty, how were they surviving, how his friends betrayed him and deprived him of any job, how he lost his leg and how much he feels betrayed of his girlfriend leaving him and joining hands with some one else. Captain just keeps listening to his story. The answers to the above question and rest of the story is full of suspense which needs to be seen in the movie directly.

Journalist - 'I was expecting with a genuine interest and excitement the meeting with the patriarch of Indian cinema, the director, actor and producer Raj Kapoor, also popular in Bulgaria.'
Raj Kapoor - 'Today, talking to you brings back some very, very old memories. For some reason I haven't visited your country Bulgaria but my heart has been near you. I was close to some of your diplomats, here in Mumbai. Bulgaria also reached me through two Bulgarian students - one in photography and one in editing and direction. They were learning here, in our studios, in Mumbai. My films are old, I am old myself. It's nearly 30 years or perhaps more since my first films were shown in the cinemas in your country -- one of them is 'Awaara', which you have loved so much, another one is 'Shree 420', and subsequently my children's film 'Bobby'.
