Oregon is most known for 2 grape varietals, and they’re both part of the Pinot family: Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. Oregon is the only place that makes Pinot Gris in the new world at scale, which is a shame because it’s such a fantastic grape. It’s rich and complex, with notes of Asian pear, honeysuckle, ripe citrus, and ginger spice. It’s one of the few white varietals that can stand up to oak aging, similar to Chardonnay, which gives it extra depth and richness. And Oregon’s signature red grape, Pinot Noir, is a no brainer. The Willamette Valley is located on the same lines of latitude of Burgundy France, which makes the most famous Pinot Noir on the planet, so the climate is similar. And just like Burgundy, Willamette has a ton of different soils and miso-climates that help express Pinot’s multi-faceted character.
