What exactly is a mirrorless camera? Well, as a way of comparison, allow me to explain how a mirrored camera works. The high end cameras we all generally know, which contain a series of mirrors, are called DSLR cameras, or digital single lens reflex camera.

The bulbous top portion of the camera is where some of the mirrors are contained. When you view an image with a DSLR camera, you are actually looking at the image through-the-lens and it then gets bounced or reflected through a series of mirrors and then through the eyepiece.
DSLR cameras also have a digital viewfinder where you can also view your image electronically on the LCD screen.
So now onto the mirrorless cameras. These cameras do NOT have a mirror system. You can only view your image via the LCD screen. The biggest difference in appearance between this newer format of cameras and DSLR cameras is the added hood space at the top of the DSLR's. Overall these mirrorless cameras are thinner and lighter than their big brothers.
As you would expect, you can also shoot video with MILC cameras.
So why go with a mirrorless camera versus a DSLR? Camera manufacturers are always looking to add to their product lines to try and capture new customers to the field of photography. So as technology advances a new format of camera shouldn't really come as a surprise.
Allow me to provide you with the Pros and Cons of these new mirrorless cameras.
PROS
• The biggest pro is the reduced size you'll get from mirrorless cameras compared to a DSLR. Reduced size obviously also means reduced weight. Now, we're just talking the body of the camera here because the lens on a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera and a DSLR camera can now use the exact same lens.
This interchangeability of lenses is great. It provides you with a great bang for your buck, by allowing you to use your lenses on multiple cameras. However, a word of caution. Not all lenses will fit on all mirrorless cameras. In some cases an additional adaptor is needed to ensure that your lens will mount. As with all new technologies it is always a battle between manufacturers to come up with accepted universal standards. I'm sure this will change over time. But for now, make sure your existing DSLR lens will fit on your new mirrorless camera.
• Another PRO for mirrorless cameras is the camera sensor size, for the most part, it's greater in size than of point-and-shoot compact camera's therefore you're going to get a better image with greater raw detail. Some of the mirrorless models now have image sensors as large as their DSLR counterparts.
• And a final PRO - mirrorless cameras are quieter than DSLR cameras. This is because there are no moving parts. The DSLR has the mirror system that has to flip up out of the way for the image information to hit the sensor.
Ok, now onto the CONS.
• It's not a DSLR, so you don't have the added benefit of seeing your image actually through-the-lens, instead you're getting a digital representation through your LCD viewfinder.
• If your personal photographer image is important to you and you're still stuck on 'bigger is better' -- then a mirrorless camera may not be for you. You may want a fully decked out DSLR to keep your ego truly happy.
• A big key point which needs to be remembered with regards to this relatively new class of camera is the sensor size. As I've mentioned before in other videos sensor size is a key deciding point of comparison when choosing a new camera. In general most DSLR cameras will provide larger sensors than that of the mirrorless variety. But this is changing all the time so make sure you do a keen comparison of this important technical statistic.
For me what I like most about this new class of camera is that because it's smaller and lighter, I'm that much more likely to take it along with me in search of photo opportunities when I'm out and about.
If you enjoy photography, then I think you owe it to yourself to have a close look at mirrorless cameras.

Best Camera For Travel Photography & Traveling
I’m going to go through some of the Best Cameras For Travelling so you can decide which one you will be best for you.
So today’s question asks “Hey Chris, I’m about to go backpacking for 2 months and am looking for a good camera to travel with”. Well that’s awesome that you’re going to go backpacking, I did that around South East Asia for a few years and really enjoyed it. Now in terms of travel cameras there are heaps of different cameras that might work for you.
My absolute favourite camera for travelling is this camera here, the Panasonic GM1. I’ve owned this one for about 3 years and it’s an absolute gem. The GM1 is the wold’s smallest interchangeable lens camera and takes stunning photos. I’d highly recommend pairing it up with this lens here, the 20mm 1.7 from Panasonic as well because you can get some brilliant bokeh with it as well. But really the best thing about this camera is it’s size. It easily will fit into a jacket pocket or a larger pair of shorts. I’ve taken mine around the world and I still use this a lot. By the way let me know in the comments section below, which camera do you think is the best camera for travelling and why? and I’ll take a look at your comment.
Next up if you’re looking to take a DSLR with your, I’d try and travel light. That might mean you’ll need a smaller body like the Canon T6 or even the Nikon D3400. These are some of the smallest DSLR’s that you can buy. If you pair that up with a small prime lens like a 50mm 1.8 or a 30mm f2, you’ll be more likely to take your camera around with you more.
You could even go smaller and get the Canon SL1, which is a tiny DSLR from Canon. Of course as a backpacker I’d also recommend a small action camera.
My favoriite at the moment is the GoPro Hero 5. It’s a fantastic little camera and this version has a few little features like voice control and linear mode which really make it a perfect travel camera. You also don’t need a protective case on this one anymore either so it’ll mean you’ll have less to carry around with you as well which is always good when your’e travelling.
So they some of the I’d recommend for travelling.

Digital single-lens reflex camera
A digital single-lens reflex camera (also called a digital SLR or DSLR) is a digital camera combining the optics and the mechanisms of a single-lens reflex camera with a digital imaging sensor, as opposed to photographic film. The reflex design scheme is the primary difference between a DSLR and other digital cameras. In the reflex design, light travels through the lens, then to a mirror that alternates to send the image to either the viewfinder or the image sensor. The alternative would be to have a viewfinder with its own lens, hence the term "single lens" for this design. By using only one lens, the viewfinder of a DSLR presents an image that will not perceptibly differ from what is captured by the camera's sensor.
DSLRs largely replaced film-based SLRs during the 2000s, and despite the rising popularity of mirrorless system cameras in the early 2010s, DSLRs remained the most common type of interchangeable lens camera in use as of 2014.

So today’s question asks “Hey Chris, I’m about to go backpacking for 2 months and am looking for a good camera to travel with”. Well that’s awesome that you’re going to go backpacking, I did that around South East Asia for a few years and really enjoyed it. Now in terms of travel cameras there are heaps of different cameras that might work for you. My absolute favourite camera for travelling is this camera here, the Panasonic GM1. I’ve owned this one for about 3 years and it’s an absolute gem. The GM1 is the wold’s smallest interchangeable lens camera and takes stunning photos. I’d highly recommend pairing it up with this lens here, the 20mm 1.7 from Panasonic as well because you can get some brilliant bokeh with it as well. But really the best thing about this camera is it’s size. It easily will fit into a jacket pocket or a larger pair of shorts. I’ve taken mine around the world and I still use this a lot. By the way let me know in the comments section below, which camera do you think is the best camera for travelling and why? and I’ll take a look at your comment. Next up if you’re looking to take a DSLR with your, I’d try and travel light. That might mean you’ll need a smaller body like the Canon T6 or even the Nikon D3400. These are some of the smallest DSLR’s that you can buy. If you pair that up with a small prime lens like a 50mm 1.8 or a 30mm f2, you’ll be more likely to take your camera around with you more. You could even go smaller and get the Canon SL1, which is a tiny DSLR from Canon. Of course as a backpacker I’d also recommend a small action camera. My favoriite at the moment is the GoPro Hero 5. It’s a fantastic little camera and this version has a few little features like voice control and linear mode which really make it a perfect travel camera. You also don’t need a protective case on this one anymore either so it’ll mean you’ll have less to carry around with you as well which is always good when your’e travelling. So they some of the I’d recommend for travelling. -

What exactly is a mirrorless camera? Well, as a way of comparison, allow me to explain how a mirrored camera works. The high end cameras we all generally know, which contain a series of mirrors, are called DSLR cameras, or digital single lens reflex camera.

The bulbous top portion of the camera is where some of the mirrors are contained. When you view an image with a DSLR camera, you are actually looking at the image through-the-lens and it then gets bounced or reflected through a series of mirrors and then through the eyepiece.
DSLR cameras also have a digital viewfinder where you can also view your image electronically on the LCD screen.
So now onto the mirrorless cameras. These cameras do NOT have a mirror system. You can only view your image via the LCD screen. The biggest difference in appearance between this newer format of cameras and DSLR cameras is the added hood space at the top of the DSLR's. Overall these mirrorless cameras are thinner and lighter than their big brothers.
As you would expect, you can also shoot video with MILC cameras.
So why go with a mirrorless camera versus a DSLR? Camera manufacturers are always looking to add to their product lines to try and capture new customers to the field of photography. So as technology advances a new format of camera shouldn't really come as a surprise.
Allow me to provide you with the Pros and Cons of these new mirrorless cameras.
PROS
• The biggest pro is the reduced size you'll get from mirrorless cameras compared to a DSLR. Reduced size obviously also means reduced weight. Now, we're just talking the body of the camera here because the lens on a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera and a DSLR camera can now use the exact same lens.
This interchangeability of lenses is great. It provides you with a great bang for your buck, by allowing you to use your lenses on multiple cameras. However, a word of caution. Not all lenses will fit on all mirrorless cameras. In some cases an additional adaptor is needed to ensure that your lens will mount. As with all new technologies it is always a battle between manufacturers to come up with accepted universal standards. I'm sure this will change over time. But for now, make sure your existing DSLR lens will fit on your new mirrorless camera.
• Another PRO for mirrorless cameras is the camera sensor size, for the most part, it's greater in size than of point-and-shoot compact camera's therefore you're going to get a better image with greater raw detail. Some of the mirrorless models now have image sensors as large as their DSLR counterparts.
• And a final PRO - mirrorless cameras are quieter than DSLR cameras. This is because there are no moving parts. The DSLR has the mirror system that has to flip up out of the way for the image information to hit the sensor.
Ok, now onto the CONS.
• It's not a DSLR, so you don't have the added benefit of seeing your image actually through-the-lens, instead you're getting a digital representation through your LCD viewfinder.
• If your personal photographer image is important to you and you're still stuck on 'bigger is better' -- then a mirrorless camera may not be for you. You may want a fully decked out DSLR to keep your ego truly happy.
• A big key point which needs to be remembered with regards to this relatively new class of camera is the sensor size. As I've mentioned before in other videos sensor size is a key deciding point of comparison when choosing a new camera. In general most DSLR cameras will provide larger sensors than that of the mirrorless variety. But this is changing all the time so make sure you do a keen comparison of this important technical statistic.
For me what I like most about this new class of camera is that because it's smaller and lighter, I'm that much more likely to take it along with me in search of photo opportunities when I'm out and about.
If you enjoy photography, then I think you owe it to yourself to have a close look at mirrorless cameras.

What exactly is a mirrorless camera? Well, as a way of comparison, allow me to explain how a mirrored camera works. The high end cameras we all generally know, which contain a series of mirrors, are called DSLR cameras, or digital single lens reflex camera.

The bulbous top portion of the camera is where some of the mirrors are contained. When you view an image with a DSLR camera, you are actually looking at the image through-the-lens and it then gets bounced or reflected through a series of mirrors and then through the eyepiece.
DSLR cameras also have a digital viewfinder where you can also view your image electronically on the LCD screen.
So now onto the mirrorless cameras. These cameras do NOT have a mirror system. You can only view your image via the LCD screen. The biggest difference in appearance between this newer format of cameras and DSLR cameras is the added hood space at the top of the DSLR's. Overall these mirrorless cameras are thinner and lighter than their big brothers.
As you would expect, you can also shoot video with MILC cameras.
So why go with a mirrorless camera versus a DSLR? Camera manufacturers are always looking to add to their product lines to try and capture new customers to the field of photography. So as technology advances a new format of camera shouldn't really come as a surprise.
Allow me to provide you with the Pros and Cons of these new mirrorless cameras.
PROS
• The biggest pro is the reduced size you'll get from mirrorless cameras compared to a DSLR. Reduced size obviously also means reduced weight. Now, we're just talking the body of the camera here because the lens on a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera and a DSLR camera can now use the exact same lens.
This interchangeability of lenses is great. It provides you with a great bang for your buck, by allowing you to use your lenses on multiple cameras. However, a word of caution. Not all lenses will fit on all mirrorless cameras. In some cases an additional adaptor is needed to ensure that your lens will mount. As with all new technologies it is always a battle between manufacturers to come up with accepted universal standards. I'm sure this will change over time. But for now, make sure your existing DSLR lens will fit on your new mirrorless camera.
• Another PRO for mirrorless cameras is the camera sensor size, for the most part, it's greater in size than of point-and-shoot compact camera's therefore you're going to get a better image with greater raw detail. Some of the mirrorless models now have image sensors as large as their DSLR counterparts.
• And a final PRO - mirrorless cameras are quieter than DSLR cameras. This is because there are no moving parts. The DSLR has the mirror system that has to flip up out of the way for the image information to hit the sensor.
Ok, now onto the CONS.
• It's not a DSLR, so you don't have the added benefit of seeing your image actually through-the-lens, instead you're getting a digital representation through your LCD viewfinder.
• If your personal photographer image is important to you and you're still stuck on 'bigger is better' -- then a mirrorless camera may not be for you. You may want a fully decked out DSLR to keep your ego truly happy.
• A big key point which needs to be remembered with regards to this relatively new class of camera is the sensor size. Best Camera For Travel Photography & Traveling
I’m going to go through some of the Best Cameras For Travelling so you can decide which one you will be best for you.
So today’s question asks “Hey Chris, I’m about to go backpacking for 2 months and am looking for a good camera to travel with”. Well that’s awesome that you’re going to go backpacking, I did that around South East Asia for a few years and really enjoyed it. Now in terms of travel cameras there are heaps of different cameras that might work for you.
My absolute favourite camera for travelling is this camera here, the Panasonic GM1. I’ve owned this one for about 3 years and it’s an absolute gem. The GM1 is the wold’s smallest interchangeable lens camera and takes stunning photos. I’d highly recommend pairing it up with this lens here, the 20mm 1.7 from Panasonic as well because you can get some brilliant bokeh with it as well. But really the best thing about this camera is it’s size. It easily will fit into a jacket pocket or a larger pair of shorts. I’ve taken mine around the world and I still use this a lot. Next up if you’re looking to take a DSLR with your, I’d try and travel light. That might mean you’ll need a smaller body like the Canon T6 or even the Nikon D3400. These are some of the smallest DSLR’s that you can buy. If you pair that up with a small prime lens like a 50mm 1.8 or a 30mm f2, you’ll be more likely to take your camera around with you more.
You could even go smaller and get the Canon SL1, which is a tiny DSLR from Canon. Of course as a backpacker I’d also recommend a small action camera.
My favoriite at the moment is the GoPro Hero 5. It’s a fantastic little camera and this version has a few little features like voice control and linear mode which really make it a perfect travel camera. You also don’t need a protective case on this one anymore either so it’ll mean you’ll have less to carry around with you as well which is always good when your’e travelling.
So they some of the I’d recommend for travelling.

What exactly is a mirrorless camera? Well, as a way of comparison, allow me to explain how a mirrored camera works. The high end cameras we all generally know, which contain a series of mirrors, are called DSLR cameras, or digital single lens reflex camera.

The bulbous top portion of the camera is where some of the mirrors are contained. When you view an image with a DSLR camera, you are actually looking at the image through-the-lens and it then gets bounced or reflected through a series of mirrors and then through the eyepiece.
DSLR cameras also have a digital viewfinder where you can also view your image electronically on the LCD screen.
So now onto the mirrorless cameras. These cameras do NOT have a mirror system. You can only view your image via the LCD screen. The biggest difference in appearance between this newer format of cameras and DSLR cameras is the added hood space at the top of the DSLR's. Overall these mirrorless cameras are thinner and lighter than their big brothers.
As you would expect, you can also shoot video with MILC cameras.
So why go with a mirrorless camera versus a DSLR? Camera manufacturers are always looking to add to their product lines to try and capture new customers to the field of photography. So as technology advances a new format of camera shouldn't really come as a surprise.
Allow me to provide you with the Pros and Cons of these new mirrorless cameras.
PROS
• The biggest pro is the reduced size you'll get from mirrorless cameras compared to a DSLR. Reduced size obviously also means reduced weight. Now, we're just talking the body of the camera here because the lens on a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera and a DSLR camera can now use the exact same lens.
This interchangeability of lenses is great. It provides you with a great bang for your buck, by allowing you to use your lenses on multiple cameras. However, a word of caution. Not all lenses will fit on all mirrorless cameras. In some cases an additional adaptor is needed to ensure that your lens will mount. As with all new technologies it is always a battle between manufacturers to come up with accepted universal standards. I'm sure this will change over time. But for now, make sure your existing DSLR lens will fit on your new mirrorless camera.
• Another PRO for mirrorless cameras is the camera sensor size, for the most part, it's greater in size than of point-and-shoot compact camera's therefore you're going to get a better image with greater raw detail. Some of the mirrorless models now have image sensors as large as their DSLR counterparts.
• And a final PRO - mirrorless cameras are quieter than DSLR cameras. This is because there are no moving parts. The DSLR has the mirror system that has to flip up out of the way for the image information to hit the sensor.
Ok, now onto the CONS.
• It's not a DSLR, so you don't have the added benefit of seeing your image actually through-the-lens, instead you're getting a digital representation through your LCD viewfinder.
• If your personal photographer image is important to you and you're still stuck on 'bigger is better' -- then a mirrorless camera may not be for you. You may want a fully decked out DSLR to keep your ego truly happy.
• A big key point which needs to be remembered with regards to this relatively new class of camera is the sensor size. As I've mentioned before in other videos sensor size is a key deciding point of comparison when choosing a new camera. In general most DSLR cameras will provide larger sensors than that of the mirrorless variety. But this is changing all the time so make sure you do a keen comparison of this important technical statistic.
For me what I like most about this new class of camera is that because it's smaller and lighter, I'm that much more likely to take it along with me in search of photo opportunities when I'm out and about.
If you enjoy photography, then I think you owe it to yourself to have a close look at mirrorless cameras.

Best Camera For Travel Photography & Traveling
I’m going to go through some of the Best Cameras For Travelling so you can decide which one you will be best for you.
So today’s question asks “Hey Chris, I’m about to go backpacking for 2 months and am looking for a good camera to travel with”. Well that’s awesome that you’re going to go backpacking, I did that around South East Asia for a few years and really enjoyed it. Now in terms of travel cameras there are heaps of different cameras that might work for you.
My absolute favourite camera for travelling is this camera here, the Panasonic GM1. I’ve owned this one for about 3 years and it’s an absolute gem. The GM1 is the wold’s smallest interchangeable lens camera and takes stunning photos. I’d highly recommend pairing it up with this lens here, the 20mm 1.7 from Panasonic as well because you can get some brilliant bokeh with it as well. But really the best thing about this camera is it’s size. It easily will fit into a jacket pocket or a larger pair of shorts. I’ve taken mine around the world and I still use this a lot. By the way let me know in the comments section below, which camera do you think is the best camera for travelling and why? and I’ll take a look at your comment.
Next up if you’re looking to take a DSLR with your, I’d try and travel light. That might mean you’ll need a smaller body like the Canon T6 or even the Nikon D3400. These are some of the smallest DSLR’s that you can buy. If you pair that up with a small prime lens like a 50mm 1.8 or a 30mm f2, you’ll be more likely to take your camera around with you more.
You could even go smaller and get the Canon SL1, which is a tiny DSLR from Canon. Of course as a backpacker I’d also recommend a small action camera.
My favoriite at the moment is the GoPro Hero 5. It’s a fantastic little camera and this version has a few little features like voice control and linear mode which really make it a perfect travel camera. You also don’t need a protective case on this one anymore either so it’ll mean you’ll have less to carry around with you as well which is always good when your’e travelling.
So they some of the I’d recommend for travelling.

Lisa Gade reviews the Sony Alpha a6000 interchangeable lens mirrorless digital camera. The a6000 and a5000 are members of the Alpha camera line and they replace the NEX models. The a6000 is the higher end model that sits roughly where the NEX-6 did and the body sells for $649 or $799 for the body plus the 16-50mm compact kit lens with motorized zoom. The a6000 has a 24MP APS-C CMOS sensor, which is the same sensor size found in significantly larger DSLRs, and it has the same 1.5x crop factor vs. full frame 35mm as do DSLRs. A question that I am asked frequently is: “Sony or Canon?” First off, the fact that this is a common question is meaningful by itself. A couple years ago I almost never got this question, but Sony has been innovating with their mirrorless cameras like a madman.
The idea that many loyal Canon users and new consumers alike are jumping to companies like Sony means the market is changing. Canon who once had a tight hold on the mid-level DLSR video market is indeed losing its grip.
I’ve been struggling with the idea of switching over from Canon to Sony, a change complicated by the fact my wife (a professional photographer) also uses Canon. I have hemmed and I have hawed for the last six months over this.
In this video I explain my thought process behind choosing Canon or Sony and I lay out the eight main reasons that I felt contributed to my final decision.
Ultimately, I decided to stick it out with Canon. I love my C100 II (my precious), having Canon Professional Services is a life-saver, and I don’t need the latest and greatest camera gear to make great work. What I already have not only works, it works really well.
However, If I did not already own a ton of Canon lenses/camera bodies and I was starting from scratch I would choose Sony. With constant firmware updates and hardware innovations Sony is just at the top of the game right now.
What I would recommend to you is to: choose something that you like. Choose something that doesn’t get in your way. Going with Sony or Canon doesn’t make a big difference at this point (unless you are highly specialized in something like low light work). Both companies make great cameras. What matters is that you buy the camera you enjoy working with so you can create, so that you want to create because you want to work with you camera.
