He is also known to have been the author of the pseudonymous works attributed to Theron Q. Dumont and Yogi Ramacharaka.[1] Due in part to Atkinson's intense personal secrecy and extensive use of pseudonyms, he is now largely forgotten, despite having written more than 100 books in the last 30 years of his life. (He obtained mention in past editions of Who's Who in America, Religious Leaders of America, and several similar publications—-but these are mostly subscription based, and reflect more on his desire to be known than his contemporary fame.) His works have remained in print more or less continuously since 1900 - n cognitive neuroscience, attentional control refers to individuals' capacity to choose what they pay attention to and what they ignore.[1] It is also known as endogenous attention or executive attention. In lay terms, attentional control can be described as an individual's ability to concentrate. Primarily mediated by the frontal areas of the brain including the anterior cingulate cortex, attentional control is thought to be closely related to other executive functions such as working memory. - Posner & Peterson explain how sources of attention in our brain create a system, which can be categorized into 3 networks: alertness (maintaining awareness), orientation (information from sensory input), and executive control (resolving conflict). Experimental designs that study these 3 networks range from participants of adults, children, monkeys, and those with and without abnormalities of attention.[4] Some research designs include the Stroop task [5] and flanker task (developed by Eriksen and Eriksen) both of which study executive control, with analysis techniques including event-related functional magnetic resonance image (fMRI).
