English grammar

English grammar is the structure of expressions in the English language. This includes the structure of words, phrases, clauses and sentences.

There are historical, social, cultural and regional variations of English. Divergences from the grammar described here occur in some dialects of English. This article describes a generalized present-day Standard English, the form of speech found in types of public discourse including broadcasting, education, entertainment, government, and news reporting, including both formal and informal speech. There are certain differences in grammar between the standard forms of British English, American English and Australian English, although these are inconspicuous compared with the lexical and pronunciation differences.

Word classes and phrases

Eight types of word ("word classes" or "parts of speech") are distinguished in English: nouns, determiners, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, and conjunctions. (Determiners, traditionally classified along with adjectives, have not always been regarded as a separate part of speech.) Interjections are another word class, but these are not described here as they do not form part of the clause and sentence structure of the language.

Arizona

Arizona (ⁱ/ɛrɪˈzoʊnə/; /ærɪˈzoʊnə/) (Navajo: Hoozdo Hahoodzo; O'odham: Alĭ ṣonak) is a state in the southwestern region of the United States. It is also part of the Western United States and of the Mountain West states. It is the sixth largest and the 14th most populous of the 50 states. Its capital and largest city is Phoenix. Arizona is one of the Four Corners states. It has borders with New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, California, and Mexico, and one point in common with the southwestern corner of Colorado. Arizona's border with Mexico is 389 miles (626 km) long, on the northern border of the Mexican states of Sonora and Baja California.

Arizona is the 48th state and last of the contiguous states to be admitted to the Union, achieving statehood on February 14, 1912. It was previously part of the territory of Alta California in New Spain before being passed down to independent Mexico and later ceded to the United States after the Mexican–American War. The southernmost portion of the state was acquired in 1853 through the Gadsden Purchase.

Jamie O'Neal

Jamie O'Neal (born 3 June 1966) is an Australian country singer and songwriter.

In 2000, O'Neal released her first studio album, Shiver. The album included the back-to-back number one singles "There Is No Arizona" and "When I Think About Angels". Two other singles were released: the title track, which reached No. 21 on the country charts, and "Frantic", which reached No. 41 in 2002. Since then, she has released her second studio album, Brave, in 2005. Her third studio album, Eternal, was released on 27 May 2014.

Early life

She was born Jamie Murphy in Sydney, Australia, to parents Jimmy and Julie Murphy, who were also professional musicians. In the early part of her career she was a backing singer in Australia, appearing on Kylie Minogue's Enjoy Yourself Tour of Australia, UK, Europe and Far East Asia in 1990. She rejoined Minogue's tour in 1991 for the Rhythm of Love Tour (Australia and Far East Asia) and the Let's Get To It Tour of the UK and Ireland.

There Is No Arizona

"There Is No Arizona" is a song co-written and recorded by Australian country music artist Jamie O'Neal. It was released in August 2000 as the first single from O'Neal's debut album, Shiver. The song reached Number One on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks (now Hot Country Songs) charts. It was written by O'Neal, Lisa Drew and Shaye Smith.

Content

The narrator talks about how a man sets off to Arizona, and promises to send for the woman (the narrator) when he has things set up. Time goes by and she gets one postcard with no return address, then nothing more. She tries to hold out hope that he'll come back or send for her but finally, as her friends keep asking her when she going, she realizes that the dream of having a better life with him in Arizona is never going to come true. She realizes that the wonderful, love-filled paradise she had hoped for was just a lie, or, to be generous, a pipe dream, the man told her when he left her. Her vision of Arizona does not exist.

There Is

"There Is" is the second single and tenth track from Box Car Racer's eponymous album. Guitarist and vocalist Tom DeLonge still occasionally plays a solo version of this song in concert with Angels & Airwaves. The single peaked at #32 on the U.S. Modern Rock Tracks Chart.

Music video

In the music video, the band plays the song in the rain outside of a house, where a boy is trying to get a girl to talk to him. During the video, people come out of their houses trying to make the band stop. A policeman comes and takes away Tom DeLonge towards the end, as the boy runs into the girls room to see her. The video was directed by Alexander Kosta, and can be seen on the Box Car Racer DVD.
