In this video, Professor Wool presents a simple yet highly effective strategy to help you future proof your network segmentation policy against future changes. Using the concept of a diamond, Prof Wool shows how you can define very specific rules at each end point of the diamond and broader policies in the middle. This will significantly reduce the time and effort needed to work on change requests—without compromising on security in any way.

Network Policy Abstractions in Neutron Featuring Mohammad Banikazemi, IBM Research, Sumit Naiksatam, Cisco Systems and Stephen Wong, Midokura, Inc. A new set of application centric network abstractions are being developed in the form of the Neutron Group Policy extension. In this model, networking requirements of applications are expressed as network policies. On the other hand, there have been significant work on defining network services (*aaS), service insertion and service chaining in the Neutron community. More recently work on Network Function Virtualization and a framework for advanced services in virtual machines have been getting attention. In this talk, we first discuss the state of the work in implementing the Neutron Group Policy extension and show how a more application-centric view of networking resources can be used to specify and deploy applications. In particular, we demonstrate the use of network policies as defined in a Heat template to specify and deploy an application. We then explore how the Neutron Group Policy extension can take advantage of advances in defining network services and functions and bring about a truly application centric view of networking resources. We show how this view impacts different layers of the stack from end to end and discuss the future directions of the Neutron Group Policy extension.

Cisco ACI Policy Theory The Cisco ACI fabric is designed as an application-centric intelligent network. The Cisco APIC policy model is defined from the top down as a policy enforcement engine focused on the application itself and abstracting the networking functionality underneath. The policy model marries with the advanced hardware capabilities of the Cisco ACI fabric underneath the business application-focused control system. The Cisco APIC policy model is an object-oriented model based on promise theory. Promise theory is based on declarative, scalable control of intelligent objects, in comparison to legacy imperative models, which can be thought of as heavyweight, top-down management. An imperative model is a big brain system or top-down style of management. In these systems the central manager must be aware of both the configuration commands of underlying objects and the current state of those objects. The Cisco ACI policy model is designed top down using a promise theory model to control a scalable architecture of defined network and service objects. This model provides robust repeatable controls, multitenancy, and minimal requirements for detailed knowledge by the control system known as the Cisco APIC. The model is designed to scale beyond current needs to the needs of private clouds, public clouds, and software-defined data centers. The policy enforcement model within the fabric is built from the ground up in an application-centric object model. This provides a logical model for laying out applications, which will then be applied to the fabric by the Cisco APIC. This helps to bridge the gaps in communication between application requirements and the network constructs that enforce them. The Cisco APIC model is designed for rapid provisioning of applications on the network that can be tied to robust policy enforcement while maintaining a workload anywhere approach.

Seattle Post 2015-04-01Anthony Charles Lynton Blair (born 6 May 1953) is a British Labour Party politician who served as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 2 May 1997 to 27 June 2007. He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sedgefield from 1983 to 2007 and Leader of the Labour Party from 1994 to 2007. He resigned from all of these positions in June 2007.
Blair was elected Leader of the Labour Party in the leadership election of July 1994, following the sudden death of his predecessor, John Smith. Under his leadership, the party used the phrases "New Labour" and "New Socialism" to define its policy, and moved away from its support of state socialism since the 1960s and created a new version of the ethical socialism that was last pursued by Clement Attlee. Critics of Blair claim that "New Labour" did not adhere to socialism as claimed, and that it effectively advocated capitalism. Blair subsequently led Labour to a landslide victory in the 1997 general election. At 43 years old, he became the youngest Prime Minister since Lord Liverpool in 1812. In the first years of the New Labour government, Blair's government implemented a number of 1997 manifesto pledges, introducing the minimum wage, Human Rights Act and Freedom of Information Act, and carrying out devolution, establishing the Scottish Parliament, the National Assembly for Wales, and the Northern Ireland Assembly.
