Desert beauty, ghost towns and trains.
I especially like how the old cabin scenes near the end look. The wood textures, combined with light and shadows, add a lot to the mood of the area there.
We camped there overnight in the late summer. Between trains, it's really quiet - other than the wind, the coyotes and other critters walking around in the shadows.

From the book MOJAVE INCIDENT by Ron Felber, a true story of alien abduction. Ron Felber joined Rainbow Vision with married couple Steve and Dawn Hess, ET abductees, to discuss their 1989 encounter with three types of aliens in a remote area of the Mojave Desert. This is the first time ever in 25 years the Hesses have discussed their traumatic ordeal and encounter with beings from another world.
What should have been a pleasant hunting trip, turned out to be a terrifying experience for Steve and Dawn Hess who discussed their encounter in the desert after 25 years of silence.
During dinner by the campfire under the desert stars, Steve noticed a bright white light rise over a mountain range and then disappear again. A jolt of electricity went through him. He had seen this like before as a child. Right after this, nine lights appeared in the sky in an "M" formation and started flashing as if communicating with each other.
The Hesses noticed that small rodents that had been running around the campsite disappeared and "out of nowhere, it seemed like the desert became silent," Steve recalled. The couple then saw thousands of objects that looked like mylar balloons raining down from the sky. As they reached the ground, the things seemed to come alive and began rushing towards the campsite. All of the "implike" or gremlin things appeared to have red glowing eyes. Steve reached for his hunting rifle, but suddenly received a telepathic message: "Don't resist. Guns are not going to help you." They retreated inside the camper shell for protection. Two apparent cylindrical-shaped "sentries" approached and stayed close to the witnesses though the entire experience.
At that point, a massive "mothership" floated up the valley, with what appeared to be smaller craft flying underneath. Classic "grey" beings approached and surrounded the Hess' camper. They proceeded to put the couple through what seemed like psychological torture and stress that Dawn described as "a bit scientific; as if you were measuring an emotion or measuring a fear." This went on for hours until it seemed as if their camper was drawn up into the huge craft. During regressive hypnosis, the Hesses described the interior of the apparent craft and an "angelic" presence that "set the final tone that everything was going to be all right" recalled Steve. They woke up in the morning and left the site. On the highway, they saw another apparent craft which appeared to be following them.

Those who crave a little adventure from time to time can visit the Mojave Desert to search for a hidden pool. It's part of an installation by Austrian artist Alfredo Barsuglia.
Those who crave a little adventure this summer can visit the Mojave Desert to search for a hidden pool. It's part of an installation by Austrian artist Alfredo Barsuglia.
He launched the project just to see how far people would go to experience a taste of luxury. Barsuglia explained "I wanted to build a man-made luxury that is in great contrast to the area around. Water and pools are a status symbol, and it's interesting to see how far people will drive to get to it."
The small pool was completed on June 20th. While it is open to the public, getting to it isn't exactly easy. Guests need a key to unlock it.
They also require the GPS coordinates of the pool. That means visitors are sent on a treasure hunt of sorts just to find it.
Writer Juliet Bennett Rylah was one of the first to find it and take a dip. She first went to the MAK Center for Art and Architecture and asked for one of the four keys to the pool.
She signed off on some paperwork that states the key cannot be copied and must be returned within 24 hours. The most important requirement is that the visitors do not disclose the pool's location.
Rylah was successfully able to find and swim in the so-called 'Social Pool'.

As much as Cindy and I love to play on the rocks, it has always been our love of the desert and our passion for exploring it that brought us into the world of Jeeps. It is for this reason that we always try to spend the first weekend of January taking friends out into the Mojave Desert and to show them some of the amazing places and things we’ve found over the years. On this particular overland trip, we took them out to an area known as Crucero and showed them the remains of an old F-4 Phantom jet crash, had them push their Jeeps as fast as they could across the Broadwell Dry Lake, invited them to make guesses as to what the Mojave Megaphone really is and had them scramble their way through the depths of Spooky Canyon.
This short destination film is a project that Cindy and I started a while back but had to shelve due to other commitments. While there isn't much "wheeling" in it, we decided to dig it out of the archives and finish it because we felt that the places we visited, the things we saw and all the fun we had with good friends was worthy of sharing and something that a lot of you might still enjoy seeing. We hope you enjoy our presentation.

The dry Mojave desert climate makes Mojave Air and Space Port an ideal location for aircraft storage. Numerous Lockheed, Boeing, McDonnell Douglas and Airbus aircraft that where once owned by major airlines are stored at this airport. Most aircraft that arrive at Mojave Airport will be scrapped, will some are being refurbished and returned to service.
With it's large supply of aircraft to use as props, the airport is used for filming action movies and commercials on a regular base.
This video is a composition of about 120 photos that where taken from a Cessna 172 while flying overhead Mojave Airport in November 2012.

The Mojave Desert (
/moʊˈhɑːvi/ or /məˈhɑːvi/; High Desert) occupies a significant portion of southeastern California and smaller parts of central California, southern Nevada, southwestern Utah and northwestern Arizona, in the United States. Named after the Mohave tribe of Native Americans, it displays typical basin and range topography.
The Mojave Desert's boundaries are generally defined by the presence of Yucca brevifolia (Joshua trees); considered an indicator species for this desert. The topographical boundaries include the Tehachapi together with the San Gabriel and San Bernardino mountain ranges. The mountain boundaries are quite distinct since they are outlined by the two largest faults in California: the San Andreas and the Garlock. The Great Basin shrub steppe lies to the north; the warmer Sonoran Desert (the Low Desert) lies to the south and east. The desert is believed to support between 1,750 and 2,000 species of plants.
While most of the Mojave desert is sparsely populated, several large cities can be found there, including Lancaster, California and Victorville, California, with the largest being Las Vegas.

Jimmie Chinn was an actor, teacher and most notably, a playwright.
Jimmie was born in Middleton, Lancashire on March 30th 1940, the only son of his beloved mother, Edie. His early years in Oldham and Manchester were to shape his writing in future years. He came to London in 1959 where he trained as an actor at the RADA and worked in many aspects of the theatre. His short and very undistinguished career as an actor led him eventually to train as a teacher at Whitelands College, Putney, where he gained an honours degree in English and Drama. He taught and became a senior teacher and housemaster at Dormers Wells School in Middlesex until becoming a full-time writer in 1984. Jimmie became increasingly loved and admired not only in the professional theatre , but also in amateur theatre circles as a fine and talented actor, director, teacher, mentor and advisor.

Most of his work for the theatre was premiered by Teddington Theatre Club at Hampton Court Theatre or on the fringe circuit.

At that point, a massive "mothership" floated up the valley, with what appeared to be smaller craft flying underneath. Classic "grey" beings approached and surrounded the Hess' camper. They proceeded to put the couple through what seemed like psychological torture and stress that Dawn described as "a bit scientific; as if you were measuring an emotion or measuring a fear." This went on for hours until it seemed as if their camper was drawn up into the huge craft. During regressive hypnosis, the Hesses described the interior of the apparent craft and an "angelic" presence that "set the final tone that everything was going to be all right" recalled Steve. Those who crave a little adventure from time to time can visit the Mojave Desert to search for a hidden pool. It's part of an installation by Austrian artist Alfredo Barsuglia. Those who crave a little adventure this summer can visit the Mojave Desert to search for a hidden pool. It's part of an installation by Austrian artist Alfredo Barsuglia. He launched the project just to see how far people would go to experience a taste of luxury. Barsuglia explained "I wanted to build a man-made luxury that is in great contrast to the area around. Water and pools are a status symbol, and it's interesting to see how far people will drive to get to it." The small pool was completed on June 20th. While it is open to the public, getting to it isn't exactly easy. Guests need a key to unlock it. They also require the GPS coordinates of the pool. That means visitors are sent on a treasure hunt of sorts just to find it. Writer Juliet Bennett Rylah was one of the first to find it and take a dip. She first went to the MAK Center for Art and Architecture and asked for one of the four keys to the pool. She signed off on some paperwork that states the key cannot be copied and must be returned within 24 hours. The most important requirement is that the visitors do not disclose the pool's location. Rylah was successfully able to find and swim in the so-called 'Social Pool'. -

Come visit us at: http://www.WAYALIFE.com As much as Cindy and I love to play on the rocks, it has always been our love of the desert and our passion for exploring it that brought us into the world of Jeeps. It is for this reason that we always try to spend the first weekend of January taking friends out into the Mojave Desert and to show them some of the amazing places and things we’ve found over the years. On this particular overland trip, we took them out to an area known as Crucero and showed them the remains of an old F-4 Phantom jet crash, had them push their Jeeps as fast as they could across the Broadwell Dry Lake, invited them to make guesses as to what the Mojave Megaphone really is and had them scramble their way through the depths of Spooky Canyon. This short destination film is a project that Cindy and I started a while back but had to shelve due to other commitments. While there isn't much "wheeling" in it, we decided to dig it out of the archives and finish it because we felt that the places we visited, the things we saw and all the fun we had with good friends was worthy of sharing and something that a lot of you might still enjoy seeing. The dry Mojave desert climate makes Mojave Air and Space Port an ideal location for aircraft storage. Numerous Lockheed, Boeing, McDonnell Douglas and Airbus aircraft that where once owned by major airlines are stored at this airport. Most aircraft that arrive at Mojave Airport will be scrapped, will some are being refurbished and returned to service. With it's large supply of aircraft to use as props, the airport is used for filming action movies and commercials on a regular base. Desert beauty, ghost towns and trains. I especially like how the old cabin scenes near the end look. The wood textures, combined with light and shadows, add a lot to the mood of the area there. We camped there overnight in the late summer. Between trains, it's really quiet - other than the wind, the coyotes and other critters walking around in the shadows. -

Those who crave a little adventure this summer can visit the Mojave Desert to search for a hidden pool. It's part of an installation by Austrian artist Alfredo Barsuglia. He launched the project just to see how far people would go to experience a taste of luxury. Barsuglia explained "I wanted to build a man-made luxury that is in great contrast to the area around. Water and pools are a status symbol, and it's interesting to see how far people will drive to get to it." The small pool was completed on June 20th. Death Ray Solar Power Plant in Mojave Desert California
If you find yourself driving through California's Mohave Desert and see these big bright towers you’re looking at the BrightSource solar concentration power plant that doubles as and avian death ray. On about 3,500 acres of land there are giant mirrors that are 163 square feet each and there are 347,000 of them reflecting onto three different 450 foot towers that you can see from the roadside. These towers are actually solar powered steam generators that produce about 1,000 gigawatts per year and can provide electricty to about 140,000 homes each year. I especially like how the old cabin scenes near the end look. The wood textures, combined with light and shadows, add a lot to the mood of the area there.
We camped there overnight in the late summer. Between trains, it's really quiet - other than the wind, the coyotes and other critters walking around in the shadows.

The Hesses noticed that small rodents that had been running around the campsite disappeared and "out of nowhere, it seemed like the desert became silent," Steve recalled. The couple then saw thousands of objects that looked like mylar balloons raining down from the sky. As they reached the ground, the things seemed to come alive and began rushing towards the campsite. All of the "implike" or gremlin things appeared to have red glowing eyes. Steve reached for his hunting rifle, but suddenly received a telepathic message: "Don't resist. Guns are not going to help you." They retreated inside the camper shell for protection. Two apparent cylindrical-shaped "sentries" approached and stayed close to the witnesses though the entire experience.
At that point, a massive "mothership" floated up the valley, with what appeared to be smaller craft flying underneath. Classic "grey" beings approached and surrounded the Hess' camper. They proceeded to put the couple through what seemed like psychological torture and stress that Dawn described as "a bit scientific; as if you were measuring an emotion or measuring a fear." This went on for hours until it seemed as if their camper was drawn up into the huge craft. During regressive hypnosis, the Hesses described the interior of the apparent craft and an "angelic" presence that "set the final tone that everything was going to be all right" recalled Steve. They woke up in the morning and left the site. On the highway, they saw another apparent craft which appeared to be following them.

They also require the GPS coordinates of the pool. That means visitors are sent on a treasure hunt of sorts just to find it.
Writer Juliet Bennett Rylah was one of the first to find it and take a dip. She first went to the MAK Center for Art and Architecture and asked for one of the four keys to the pool.
She signed off on some paperwork that states the key cannot be copied and must be returned within 24 hours. The most important requirement is that the visitors do not disclose the pool's location.

Those who crave a little adventure from time to time can visit the Mojave Desert to search for a hidden pool. It's part of an installation by Austrian artist Alfredo Barsuglia.
Those who crave a little adventure this summer can visit the Mojave Desert to search for a hidden pool. It's part of an installation by Austrian artist Alfredo Barsuglia.
He launched the project just to see how far people would go to experience a taste of luxury. Barsuglia explained "I wanted to build a man-made luxury that is in great contrast to the area around. Water and pools are a status symbol, and it's interesting to see how far people will drive to get to it."
The small pool was completed on June 20th. While it is open to the public, getting to it isn't exactly easy. Guests need a key to unlock it.
They also require the GPS coordinates of the pool. That means visitors are sent on a treasure hunt of sorts just to find it.
Writer Juliet Bennett Rylah was one of the first to find it and take a dip. She first went to the MAK Center for Art and Architecture and asked for one of the four keys to the pool.
She signed off on some paperwork that states the key cannot be copied and must be returned within 24 hours. The most important requirement is that the visitors do not disclose the pool's location.

As much as Cindy and I love to play on the rocks, it has always been our love of the desert and our passion for exploring it that brought us into the world of Jeeps. It is for this reason that we always try to spend the first weekend of January taking friends out into the Mojave Desert and to show them some of the amazing places and things we’ve found over the years. On this particular overland trip, we took them out to an area known as Crucero and showed them the remains of an old F-4 Phantom jet crash, had them push their Jeeps as fast as they could across the Broadwell Dry Lake, invited them to make guesses as to what the Mojave Megaphone really is and had them scramble their way through the depths of Spooky Canyon.

California travel expert Veronica Hill shares a guide to Calico Ghost Town in this episode of "California Travel Tips."
Located in the dusty Mojave Desert — roughly 10 miles north of Barstow — Calico was named for the rainbow-colored hills that produced one of the richest silver strikes in California history.
Home to 1,200 residents by 1887, this was a wild and woolly place — with 22 saloons, its own red light district and several fine restaurants. Today, Calico has five surviving original buildings: the Park Office, Lane's General Store, Lil's Saloon, and The Zenda Mining Company.
Plan on a full day to explore. You can do a bit of gold panning; walk sideways in the Mystery Shack; take a ride on the Calico & Odessa Narrow Gauge Railway; or explore more than 1,000 feet of tunnel inside the Maggie Mine Shaft. Around lunch, grab a cold beer and burger at Old Miner's Cafe, or enjoy an old-fashioned sarsparilla at the Calico House Restaurant. Then, hike off your meal on the East Calico Hiking Trail, where you'll find unique cabins carved into the rocky hillsides.
Calico produced more than $20 million in silver, and was deserted by the 1930s. Walter Knott (of Knott's Berry Farm fame) purchased the crumbling town in 1951 for $13,500, restoring it to its former glory. It is now run by the park service.
Tips: Calico takes credit cards and there are several ATMs on site. You can stay the night in Calico's campgrounds or bunkhouse. The ghost town is located off I-15 en route to Las Vegas.

California travel expert Veronica Hill shares a guide to Calico Ghost Town in this episode of "California Travel Tips."
Located in the dusty Mojave Desert — roughly 10 miles north of Barstow — Calico was named for the rainbow-colored hills that produced one of the richest silver strikes in California history.
Home to 1,200 residents by 1887, this was a wild and woolly place — with 22 saloons, its own red light district and several fine restaurants. Today, Calico has five surviving original buildings: the Park Office, Lane's General Store, Lil's Saloon, and The Zenda Mining Company.
Plan on a full day to explore. You can do a bit of gold panning; walk sideways in the Mystery Shack; take a ride on the Calico & Odessa Narrow Gauge Railway; or explore more than 1,000 feet of tunnel inside the Maggie Mine Shaft. Around lunch, grab a cold beer and burger at Old Miner's Cafe, or enjoy an old-fashioned sarsparilla at the Calico House Restaurant. Then, hike off your meal on the East Calico Hiking Trail, where you'll find unique cabins carved into the rocky hillsides.
Calico produced more than $20 million in silver, and was deserted by the 1930s. Walter Knott (of Knott's Berry Farm fame) purchased the crumbling town in 1951 for $13,500, restoring it to its former glory. It is now run by the park service.
Tips: Calico takes credit cards and there are several ATMs on site. You can stay the night in Calico's campgrounds or bunkhouse. The ghost town is located off I-15 en route to Las Vegas.

If you find yourself driving through California's Mohave Desert and see these big bright towers you’re looking at the BrightSource solar concentration power plant that doubles as and avian death ray.
On about 3,500 acres of land there are giant mirrors that are 163 square feet each and there are 347,000 of them reflecting onto three different 450 foot towers that you can see from the roadside. These towers are actually solar powered steam generators that produce about 1,000 gigawatts per year and can provide electricty to about 140,000 homes each year.
Pretty much any bird that flies in the path of the concentrated light get’s cooked mid flight. In fact the plant’s workers say they actually ignite before they hit the ground and report that approximately 1,000 birds die each year.
