Florence (/ˈflɒrəns/ FLOR-əns; Italian: Firenze [fiˈrɛntse]) is the capital city of the Italian region of Tuscany and of the Metropolitan City of Florence. It is the most populous city in Tuscany, with approximately 382,000 inhabitants, expanding to over 1,520,000 in the metropolitan area.
Florence is famous for its history: a centre of medieval European trade and finance and one of the wealthiest cities of the time, it is considered the birthplace of the Renaissance, and has been called "the Athens of the Middle Ages". A turbulent political history includes periods of rule by the powerful Medici family, and numerous religious and republican revolutions. From 1865 to 1871 the city was the capital of the recently established Kingdom of Italy.
The Historic Centre of Florence attracts millions of tourists each year, and Euromonitor International ranked the city as the world's 89th most visited in 2012, with 1.8 million visitors. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982. The city is noted for its culture, Renaissance art and architecture and monuments. The city also contains numerous museums and art galleries, such as the Uffizi Gallery and the Palazzo Pitti, and still exerts an influence in the fields of art, culture and politics. Due to Florence's artistic and architectural heritage, it has been ranked by Forbes as one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
Arizona (i/ɛrɪˈzoʊnə/; /ærɪˈzoʊnə/) (Navajo: Hoozdo Hahoodzo; O'odham: Alĭ ṣonak) is a state in the southwestern region of the United States. It is also part of the Western United States and of the Mountain West states. It is the sixth largest and the 14th most populous of the 50 states. Its capital and largest city is Phoenix. Arizona is one of the Four Corners states. It has borders with New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, California, and Mexico, and one point in common with the southwestern corner of Colorado. Arizona's border with Mexico is 389 miles (626 km) long, on the northern border of the Mexican states of Sonora and Baja California.
Arizona is the 48th state and last of the contiguous states to be admitted to the Union, achieving statehood on February 14, 1912. It was previously part of the territory of Alta California in New Spain before being passed down to independent Mexico and later ceded to the United States after the Mexican–American War. The southernmost portion of the state was acquired in 1853 through the Gadsden Purchase.
Florence (O'odham: S-auppag) is a town, sixty-one miles southeast of Phoenix, in the Pinal County of Arizona, United States. Florence, which is the county seat of Pinal County, is one of the oldest towns in that county and is regarded as a National Historic District with over 25 buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The population of Florence was 25,536 at the 2010 census.
The area where the current town of Florence is located was once inhabited by the members of the Athabascans, ancestors of the San Carlos Apache tribe. Prior to the establishment of the town, the Gila River served as a part of the border between the United States and Mexico. In 1853, the Gadsden Purchase extended American territory well south of the Gila.
Levi Ruggles, a veteran of the American Civil War founded the town of Florence, on the southern boundary of the Gila River. He came to Arizona Territory in 1866 as a U.S. Indian Agent. Recognizing the agricultural potential of the valley, he found an easily fordable crossing on the Gila River and surveyed a townsite there. With the aid of Governor R.C. McCormick, he secured a post office in August of the same year. Ruggles held numerous public offices including that of Territorial Legislator. Listed as Historic by the Historic District Advisory Commission. Florence became the government seat of Pinal County Courthouse in the newly formed Pinal County and silver was discovered at the Silver King Mine in 1875.

A town in Arizona figured out that it could get more federal funding if its population increased even if the newcomers weren't coming there voluntarily. When inmates count as residents even the high school gets a new football scoreboard.

FLORENCE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Shocking new video has been released that shows how quickly things can go wrong for an Arizona Department of Corrections Officer. The video from April shows an evening meal for the maximum security inmates at the Florence prison. Inmates were upset that officers were walking through their tables. The inmates then reportedly stood up to confront the officers and refused to let a female officer leave. When more officers moved into the chow hall, the inmates attacked. More than a dozen of the state's most dangerous men kicked and punched officers only armed with pepper spray and stun guns. One of the officers responding Sgt. Joel Reza covered his colleague, getting between him and the inmates, trying to shield the blows. Rez was honored with a valor award for his e...

Travel video about destination Florence in Italy. Florence is the capital of Tuscany, a city of art and joie de vivre. With its magnificent tower the Palazzo Vecchio is a communal palace that has been the city’s political centre since the beginning of the 14th century. Originally it was the seat of the city’s Republican rulers but soon afterwards the MEDICI dynasty settled there, the cleverest and most powerful of the handful of families that ruled over the city. In front of the palace’s façade there is a double life-sized statue that is a copy of Michelangelo’s‚’David’, and in the Galleria Dell` Accademia there are several further sculptures by the great artist that idealised and glorified the strength of the Renaissance people. The three-sided Gothic cathedral and the Campanile are tightl...

Hello hello! Don't forget to bump up the quality! How are you all? Here is my travel vlog from my trip to Florence with Charlie for our one year anniversary. I really hope you enjoy it!! I've been working on this all week so I'm really excited to finally share it with you. I'm sorry if you prefer kind of face-to-camera vlogging, but I've always felt like if I'm in a beautiful/interesting place, why do you want to see my face?! (My face is boring. Florence is amazing.)The whole film things then narrate over the footage is just the way I've done it in the past, but if you really would prefer me to speak to the camera next time I'm happy to do that too! I'm sure I could mix in a bit of both. I just found this way a little less intrusive on our holiday. Just let me know. Thank you so much for...

The Arizona Rangers are an Arizona unpaid, non-commissioned civilian auxiliary agency that is available to assist and support law enforcement modeled on the Texas Rangers. The Arizona Rangers were created by the Arizona Territorial Legislature in 1901, disbanded in 1909, and subsequently reformed in 1957. They were created to deal with the infestations of outlaws in the sparsely populated Arizona Territory, especially along the Mexican border. The rangers were an elite, well-trained, and originally a secretive agency mounted on quality horses and well equipped with modern weapons at the state's expense. The rangers were very effective in apprehending members of outlaw bands.

The United States Penitentiary, Administrative Maximum Facility (ADX) is an American federal supermax prison for male inmates located in Fremont County, Colorado.[2][3] It is unofficially known as ADX Florence, Florence ADMAX, Supermax, or the Alcatraz of the Rockies.[4] Part of the Florence Federal Correctional Complex, which is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), a division of the United States Department of Justice, it houses the male inmates in the federal prison system who are deemed the most dangerous and in need of the tightest control. Women in the BOP system who are classified as "special...
