The Anasazi culture

The Anasazi Culture evolved on the plateau of northeastern Arizona, northwestern New Mexico, southeastern Utah and southwestern Colorado.
Characteristics
The Anasazi seem to have developed from an earlier culture, the Oshara, an archaic culture of small nomadic bands who lived in the more mountainous parts of the territory. The introduction of pottery, probably from the south, signals the beginnings of the culture we call Anasazi. The people grew corn and beans, and were also hunters and gatherers. Villages consisted of small pithouse or pueblo groupings, and usually had a large ceremonial structure known as a kiva. A variety of burial practices were used, most often bodies were flexed in shallow pit-graves in the refuse heaps surrounding the villages.
House Types
The Anasazi, like the Mogollon lived in pithouses arranged in groups around a larger ceremonial room called a kiva. The kiva may have served some religious function, but more likely its initial function was as a council chamber, where the elders of a settlement could discuss issues relevant to their survival. The pithouses were constructed of jacal, a type of wattle-and-daub construction. In some areas, surface structures were made of masonry, then surrounded by additional surface dwellings of wattle-and -daub. These groupings would lead ultimately to the modern pueblo.
Pottery
Anasazi pottery tends to be constructed of white or gray clay, and is constructed using the coiling-and-scraping technique. Early on, these were often decorated with black geometric designs, but later on polychrome types are developed, some of which would be ancestral to historic Hopi pottery.

A variety of burial practices were used, most often bodies were flexed in shallow pit-graves in the refuse heaps surrounding the villages.
House Types
The Anasazi, like the Mogollon lived in pithouses arranged in groups around a larger ceremonial room called a kiva. The kiva may have served some religious function, but more likely its initial function was as a council chamber, where the elders of a settlement could discuss issues relevant to their survival. The pithouses were constructed of jacal, a type of wattle-and-daub construction. In some areas, surface structures were made of masonry, then surrounded by additional surface dwellings of wattle-and -daub. These groupings would lead ultimately to the modern pueblo.
Pottery
Anasazi pottery tends to be constructed of white or gray clay, and is constructed using the coiling-and-scraping technique. Early on, these were often decorated with black geometric designs, but later on polychrome types are developed, some of which would be ancestral to historic Hopi pottery.

This is good shit - though I'm having a hard time locating it. I think an "out there" release for Toxic State, but in the best possible way. It's like, if you took a fierce sounding post-punk band, mixed in some darker Corpus Christi shit and then shot the whole thing full of testosterone, it just becomes bad-smelling, intense verging on violent, and exceedingly handsome. I'd be just as eager to mosh as I would to dance in place. "Bone Collector" and "Samsara" serve up some thumping punk rhythms while "Loving You" brings us into a world that's a bit darker, and the "gothy" tones, and mood running throughout are really brought to the fore. I'd say, if you like Killing Joke, The Land of Rape and Honey-era Ministry, maybe Omega Tribe, that sorta' thing, this'll be right up your alley. The vocals really stand out throughout. I wish there were a little less reverb/echo on them because they're strong and can stand on their own. It's a solid listening experience - excited for new things to come.

Carlos Nakai: Earth Spirit
This collection of solo flute pieces from Navajo-Ute musician R. Carlos Nakai is an evocative delight. The album consists of mostly original material, from the composition "Canyon Reverie," to the improvisational "In Media Res," to "Athabascan Song," an arrangement of a traditional song. The latter in particular stands out, with a faster rhythm and more lilting melody than most of the other pieces. There's also "Ancient Dreams," performed on a bone whistle; the instrument almost exceeds the upper range of human hearing, and Nakai occasionally sounds like he's imitating birdcalls. A classically trained musician, Nakai blends musical traditions to create a whole that reminds one, on occasion, of Japanese shakuhachi music. Stories in the Stone: Interview with John Suazo
Taos Pueblo sculptor John Suazo has been chosen to install a sculpture at the Taos County Administrative-Judicial Complex in Taos, New Mexico, USA. We spoke with him about the sculpture and some of the other works at his studio on the Taos Pueblo Indian Reservation, just outside the town of Taos. When Taos County completed the county complex in 2011, it set $100,000 aside to purchase artwork for the complex, according to Taos County Manager Steve Archuleta. Suazo’s sculpture will cost the county $55,000, taken from that fund. Taos County issued a request for proposals in May 2014 for the design and installation of a sculpture for the complex. Since the 1598 arrival of Juan de Oñate, the Franciscans have established a series of missions among the pueblos. In his talk, Antonio Trujillo will explore Franciscan spirituality and how it parallels the traditions of the Pueblo peoples. Trujillo, who served as the priest at Acoma and Laguna Pueblos for four years, will share his intimate experience with Puebloan Feast Days and his reflections about Franciscan spirituality and its impact in modern times. American Southwest 2013 - #2 Mesa Verde NP, Colorado
About AD 550, long before Europeans explored North America, some of the people living in the Four Corners region decided to move onto the Mesa Verde. For over 700 years these people and their descendants lived and flourished here, eventually building elaborate stone communities in the sheltered alcoves of canyon walls. In the late 1200s in the span of a generation or two, they left their homes and moved away. Mesa Verde National Park preserves a spectacular reminder of this ancient culture. Archeologists have called these people Anasazi, from a Navajo word sometimes translated as "the ancient foreigners." We now call them Ancestral Pueblo people, reflecting their modern descendants. -

In the centuries that led to the year 1000, Europe was emerging from chaos. Tribes roamed the countryside evoking fear from luckless peasants. The grandeur that was Rome had long passed. Across the Atlantic, the North American continent was also inhabited by tribes. The ANASAZI managed to build glorious cities in the cliffs of the modern Southwest. Their rise and fall mark one of the greatest stories of pre-Columbian American history.
Anasazi means "ancient outsiders." Like many peoples during the agricultural era, the Anasazi employed a wide variety of means to grow high-yield crops in areas of low rainfall. Their baskets and pottery are highly admired by collectors and are still produced by their descendants for trade. It is their cliff dwellings, however, that captivate the modern archæologist, historian, and tourist.
The famed CLIFF DWELLINGS were built into the mountainsides with but one exit for the sake of defense. With the exception of hunting and growing food, all aspects of living could be performed within the dwelling. Deep pits were periodically dug within the living quarters. These pits, called KIVAS, served as religious temples for the ancient Anasazi. Sleeping areas were built into the sides of the cliffs. Even water could be gathered between the porous cracks in the walls — all by clever design, of course.
Historians can only theorize why the Anasazi civilization declined. One explanation is attack by hostile tribes. Others believe the resources of the area were becoming exhausted.
The durability of their structures has proven remarkable. Think of how our contemporary structures fall into utter disrepair without constant maintenance. The cliff dwellings have endured over eight hundred years of exposure to the elements and still stand proud. Modern day visitors can marvel at Anasazi accomplishments at MESA VERDE NATIONAL PARK or CANYON DE CHELLY NATIONAL PARK, to name a few.

Ray Carlos Nakai (a.k.a. R Carlos Nakai ) was born in Flagstaff Arizona on April 16, 1946 and now resides in Tucson, Arizona. He is a Native American of Navajo-Ute heritage who began his musical career as a freshman at Northern Arizona University studying brass instruments and playing in the NAU marching band. In his sophomore year he enlisted in the US Navy with the hope of eventually playing in the Armed Forces Band. He passed the highly competitive auditions for the Armed Forces School of Music and was 28th on the waiting list for admission. Playing with the Armed Forces Band became impossible, however, because an auto accident damaged his mouth making it impossible to produce the correct embouchure to continue playing brass instruments. Shortly after this accident, he was presented with a gift of a traditional Native American cedar flute and challenged to master it.
Nakai says that most of his inspiration comes from the expressions of native communities and his desire to preserve his own Native American heritage. In addition, he likes to blend his native music with that of other cultures thereby helping to preserve their heritage as well. To that end, he has collaborated with a Japanese folk ensemble, the Philadelphia Orchestra's Israeli cellist Udi Bar-David, and many others. This collection of solo flute pieces from Navajo-Ute musician R. Carlos Nakai is an evocative delight. The album consists of mostly original material, from the composition "Canyon Reverie," to the improvisational "In Media Res," to "Athabascan Song," an arrangement of a traditional song. The latter in particular stands out, with a faster rhythm and more lilting melody than most of the other pieces. There's also "Ancient Dreams," performed on a bone whistle; the instrument almost exceeds the upper range of human hearing, and Nakai occasionally sounds like he's imitating birdcalls. A classically trained musician, Nakai blends musical traditions to create a whole that reminds one, on occasion, of Japanese shakuhachi music.

Ray Carlos Nakai (a.k.a. R Carlos Nakai ) was born in Flagstaff Arizona on April 16, 1946 and now resides in Tucson, Arizona. He is a Native American of Navajo-Ute heritage who began his musical career as a freshman at Northern Arizona University studying brass instruments and playing in the NAU marching band. In his sophomore year he enlisted in the US Navy with the hope of eventually playing in the Armed Forces Band. He passed the highly competitive auditions for the Armed Forces School of Music and was 28th on the waiting list for admission. Playing with the Armed Forces Band became impossible, however, because an auto accident damaged his mouth making it impossible to produce the correct embouchure to continue playing brass instruments. Shortly after this accident, he was presented with a gift of a traditional Native American cedar flute and challenged to master it.
Nakai says that most of his inspiration comes from the expressions of native communities and his desire to preserve his own Native American heritage. In addition, he likes to blend his native music with that of other cultures thereby helping to preserve their heritage as well. To that end, he has collaborated with a Japanese folk ensemble, the Philadelphia Orchestra's Israeli cellist Udi Bar-David, and many others. Still, the place had a cozy appeal: had we wanted to pitch camp, we could have selected a grassy bank beside the creek, with clear water running under the skin of ice, dead cottonwood branches for a fire, and—beneath the 800-foot-high rock walls—shelter from the wind.

More than seven centuries ago, however, the last inhabitants of the canyon had made quite a different decision about where to live. As we rounded a bend along the trail, Greg Child, an expert climber from Castle Valley, Utah, stopped and looked upward. "There," he said, pointing toward a nearly invisible wrinkle of ledge just below the canyon rim. "See the dwellings?" With binoculars, we could just make out the facades of a row of mud-and-stone structures. Up we scrambled toward them, gasping and sweating, careful not to dislodge boulders the size of small cars that teetered on insecure perches. At last, 600 feet above the canyon floor, we arrived at the ledge.
The airy settlement that we explored had been built by the Anasazi, a civilization that arose as early as 1500 B.C. Their descendants are today's Pueblo Indians, such as the Hopi and the Zuni, who live in 20 communities along the Rio Grande, in New Mexico, and in northern Arizona. During the 10th and 11th centuries, ChacoCanyon, in western New Mexico, was the cultural center of the Anasazi homeland, an area roughly corresponding to the Four Corners region where Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico meet. This 30,000-square-mile landscape of sandstone canyons, buttes and mesas was populated by as many as 30,000 people. The Anasazi built magnificent villages such as ChacoCanyon's Pueblo Bonito, a tenth-century complex that was as many as five stories tall and contained about 800 rooms. The people laid a 400-mile network of roads, some of them 30 feet wide, across deserts and canyons. And into their architecture they built sophisticated astronomical observatories.

This female being was already in contact with a friend of mine (whose name is given only with the abbreviation E.F. in the text) since some months. Let me declare, that I was all my life a skeptic about UFOs, aliens and other weird things and I thought that E.F. tells me just dreams or fictitious stories when he talked with me about his First Contacts with the non-human being "Lacerta". I was still a skeptic when I met this being on December 16 last year in that small warm room in the remote house of my friend near to a town in the south of Sweden, despite the fact that I saw now with my own eyes that she was not human. She has told and shown me so many unbelievable things during that meeting that I can't deny the reality and the truth of her words any longer. This is not another of that wrong UFO papers which claim to tell the truth but tell in fact just fiction, I'm convinced that this transcript contains the only truth and therefore you should read it.
I had talked with her for over 3 hours, so the following transcript shows you only shortened parts of the interview, because she asked me after the interview not to publish everything she had told me already now. The order of the questions in this transcript is not always the same order in which I had asked them, so it may seem sometimes a little bit confusing to you. It was not easy to delete all the important parts she had asked me to delete from the transcript, so I apologize for the maybe unusual order. I'm in the possession of the entire transcript of the interview (49 pages with some of my drawings of her body and her equipment) and also of some tapes on which I have the full interview, but I will not reveal this before I have permission from her. I will send this shortened form of the still fascinating document to four of my reliable friends to Finland, Norway, Germany and France and I hope they will translate it into their own languages and into other languages and I hope as many people as possible will be able to read and to understand the transcript. If you receive it, please send it to all your friends via e-mail or make print-outs and copy them.
I certify furthermore, that various "paranormal" abilities of her species like telepathy and telekinesis (including the moving and dancing of my pencil on the table without touching and the flying of an apple around 40 centimeters over her hands) were shown to me during the 3 hours and 6 minutes of the meeting and I'm absolutely sure that these abilities were no tricks. The following is certainly difficult to understand and to believe for someone who hasn't experienced it, but I was really in contact with her mind and I'm now completely sure that everything she said during the interview is the absolute truth about our world.
Unfortunately, if I read the entire transcript and (much more) this very shortened form by myself I have the strong impression, that everything I've written sounds too unbelievable to be true, that everything sounds more like a bad science fiction story from TV or cinema and I have doubts that anyone will believe my experiences. On February 4th, 2012, the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center will open a special exhibition reflecting upon the last one-hundred years and present major events and milestones tied to federal and state policy and its lasting impacts upon Pueblo people. The exhibition will tell a modern story of resilience and celebrate how Pueblo Indian People responded to these imposed challenges upon our Core Values (Love, Respect, Compassion, Faith, Balance, Service) drawn from Gifts of the Creator (Land, Language, A Way of Life, Family, Community, Environment. Visitors will learn of the lasting human impacts of these policies and laws through the personal reflections and interviews captured. As we highlight the many contributions of Pueblo people who have risen to the challenges since time of emergence, we strive for our Pueblo youth to understand the importance of their own contributions to the next 100 years, and ask them "What will be your contribution?...to yourself, your family, your community, your Pueblo people, your state, your country, to the world.
Curriculum Development
The project also incorporates the creation of k-12 curriculum developed for and in support of this special exhibition. The k-12 base curriculum will be provided resources to teacher's seeking lesson plans created from a Pueblo perspective and tied to Pueblo core values and Pueblo cultural perspectives as its foundation.
NM State Centennial
The exhibition will also coincide with the celebration of the NM State Centennial (August 2011 thru 2012) and our exhibition is as an official event of the NM Centennial. This exhibition is only the beginning in a larger Indian Pueblo Cultural Center vision and all of the exhibition work developed will be used to help inform the planning and development of a new IPCC permanent exhibition called, The Pueblo Experience.

And we’re not talking about the people that take your money when you check out of a retail store. Cashiers, North Carloina is the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Mary Joyce’s book, “Cherokee Little People Were Real” adds to the growing body of awareness that we DO NOT have a clear picture of our past. And I’m not referring to “ancient” past, but the not too distant past. In the last few years there has been a steady stream of books about little people, Hobbit-like people with big feet, giants that gave the Conquistadors a very unfriendly welcome here in Florida, red haired giants that were do unruly and ill-tempered that the Native America Indians killed them off, and not that long ago. We also have beings generically called Bigfoot or Sasquach have been seen all over the world, as well as lots of other strange and even dangerous upright humanoid-type creatures. (sleep well, tonight…)
YES, it is a very strange world and we still have much to learn. J.R.R. Tolkein wrote in his classic book, “Lord of the Rings.” “History became legend… And legend became myth.” This can happen almost before our very eyes. Mary Joyce’s work has added a valuable part of us remembering our past.
Back in early 2001 Mary interviewed several senior citizens who were in their 80s. These were not particularly talkative men, but they were willing to share with Mary their recollections of stories they heard in THEIR youth from THEIR elders. So, we are talking about stories passed down from people that may well have been born BEFORE the American Civil war!
What we have are “stories.” Sorry CSI fans, no DNA or forensic “proof.” But I would urge you to consider the source. Seniors, very serious seniors, grounded men, close to the end of their time, with nothing to gain. That’s called “character.”
So, as we move forward, remember the famous words of William Shakespeare (who was possibly The Earl of Oxford), he wrote…
“There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”

As the world responds to the Islamic State with hatred and vengeance, there is one group that is responding differently. They are not allies with ISIS but enemies. And they have been slain by the thousands in the hands of ISIS. ISIS calls them The Nation of the Cross - The ones they have killed are bringing a message of forgiveness and hope. Declaring a love that they do not know - A love that reconciles even the worst of us and can make enemies into brothers.
We worked with several Arab Christians and Middle East Refugees to get their feedback. Also had it translated by an Arab Christian from Egypt.
