The new LSK Act 2014, said that one must have practiced as an advocate for 15 years, to be able to run for the leadership of the Law Society of Kenya.
This essentially locked out ambitious young lawyers.
The Act also changed the leadership structure of the society from chairman to president and stated that a person could only serve a single two-year term, in changes that lawyers said would enhance the status of the LSK.
Unlike in the past, when anyone who had served as a council member was eligible, the new Act said that only those who had qualifications equivalent to those of a Supreme Court judge, could contest as president and vice president of the society.
LSK chairman Eric Mutua, who was to become president of the society when the Act was effected, endorsed the changes, saying they were anchored on the 2010 Constitution.

Taking into consideration that this position became void on the eleventh of November 2004, after the passing of President Yasser Arafat, 75 members of the central council presented a proposal to elect a president of the state, and nominated Mahmoud Abbas for this position. STORYLINE
The Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) central council voted on Sunday to appoint Mahmoud Abbas as President of the Palestinian state as well as his current title as head of the Palestinian Authority.
The title had been vacant since the death of Yasser Arafat in 2004 and is symbolic given a Palestinian state has yet to even be formed.
The additional title was seen an attempt to boost Abbas' stature ahead of an anticipated showdown with his rivals over the length of the Fatah party politician's term.
It follows Abbas' threat, made also on Sunday, to call elections early next year if rival party Hamas don't open reconciliation talks, an ultimatum that could deepen the rift that has left the West Bank and Gaza Strip under separate rulers.
Hamas immediately rejected the call, which was widely seen as an effort to pressure the Islamic militant group and pave the way for Abbas to extend his term by at least another year.
Although the Palestinians hope to establish an independent state in the West Bank and Gaza, the two areas have been under rival governments since Hamas fighters violently seized control of Gaza in June 2007.
Gaza and the West Bank lie on opposite sides of Israel.
Abbas, who controls only the West Bank, enjoys backing from the international community, while the Hamas regime in Gaza is widely shunned.
Repeated attempts at reconciliation have failed, most recently this month when Hamas abruptly cancelled its participation in Egyptian-mediated talks in Cairo.
Speaking in Gaza on Sunday Hamas leader Mahmoud Zahar rejected the new title, stating it was up to the "Palestinian people" to appoint a President, not the council.
Abbas said he would call elections both for the presidency and to replace the Hamas dominated Palestinian legislature.
The dispute is rooted in contradictory Palestinian election law.

President Park Geun-hye has reiterated calls for Japan to resolve the issue of its wartime sexual enslavement of Korean women.
She has told Japanese media outlets... she wants the issue resolved before the end of the year.
Her remarks come a matter of days ahead of her first one-on-one summit with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Hwang Sung-hee reports.
President Park wants the issue of Japan′s wartime sexual enslavement of Korean women resolved by the end of the year.
That′s what she told Japanese dailies the Asahi Shimbun and the Mainichi Shimbun in a written interview.
It′s the first time the president has set a deadline on the issue, which has become the thorniest subject between the two neighbors.
More than 200-thousand women, mostly Korean, were forced to serve the Japanese military before and during World War Two.
Time is running out for the elderly victims... as only 47 remain in Korea.
President Park said it′s important for the Japanese government to swiftly come up with measures acceptable to the victims... and that such measures will be proposed at the upcoming summit.
She added that the past cannot be resolved by denial... and expressed hope it will no longer stand in the way of their bilateral relations.
Addressing Japan′s newly acquired right to collective self-defense, President Park urged Tokyo to maintain transparent defense policies.
There are concerns Japan′s military could enter the Korean Peninsula even without Seoul′s consent in the event of a contingency with North Korea.
She also touched upon Seoul′s interest in joining the twelve-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal... which includes Japan and the United States.

President Park Geun-hye and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will hold their first summit on the sidelines of a trilateral meeting with China in Seoul.
But will it be enough to break the ice between the two leaders?
Few think so.
Hwang Sung-hee reports.
For the first time since taking office, President Park will hold summit talks with her Japanese counterpart, Shinzo Abe.
The two leaders will meet next Monday in Seoul to discuss a range of sensitive issues.
"The two leaders are expected to exchange in-depth opinions about pending bilateral issues, including the issue of the comfort women."
More than 200-thousand women, mostly Korean, were forced to serve the Japanese military during World War Two.
Korea wants a sincere apology and compensation for the aging victims, although Japan claims that this was settled through a 1965 bilateral pact and a private fund.
The issue has kept the two leaders wide apart for more than two and a half years.
But there is little hope for any progress in their bilateral ties, with the two leaders not even taking the time to dine together.
"There are no plans to hold a luncheon. This has been settled through discussions between Korea and Japan."
Some say the summit will be no more than just a token meeting on the sidelines of a meeting with China.
"Despite few expecting real gains from the meeting between President Park and Prime Minister Abe, it comes as Seoul hosts its first trilateral summit in over three years with Beijing and Tokyo on Sunday... And from this, the three leaders are expected to adopt a joint statement outlining their commitment to continued three-way cooperation, even though relations with Japan may remain somewhat strained..

She said the weapons threaten regional stability and the respective national security interests of the U.S. and China.

Title: China celebrates WWII victory, President Park attends military parade
China commemorated the 70th anniversary of its victory over Japan in World War Two with grand celebrations, watched all around the globe.
President Park Geun-hye, along with dozens of world leaders have joined Chinese President Xi Jinping for the ceremony, the highlight of which, a massive military parade through Beijing′s Tiananmen Square.
Our Choi You-sun , who′s traveling with President Park sent us this report.
Under clear skies, tens of thousands of people gathered at Tiananmen Square to celebrate China′s victory in World War Two following Japan′s surrender 70 years ago.
Addressing the crowd, President Xi Jinping paid tribute to the Chinese who fought and defeated Japan′s aggressions in the War.
He also vowed to cut 300-thousand of China′s military personnel.
Looking over Tiananmen Square, President Park Geun-hye was seated on President Xi′s right, two seats away and next to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
This reflects how much Seoul and Beijing′s relations have developed in stark contrast to Beijing′s ties with traditional ally Pyongyang.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un did not attend, with his envoy Choe Ryong-hae seated a distance from the Chinese leader.
Some 12-thousand troops, 2-hundred aircraft, as well as tanks and missiles were showcased through the Square, and Chinese state media reported that some 80 percent of the machinery was unveiled for the first time.
President Park′s attendance at the Chinese military parade, the centerpiece of Thursday′s ceremonies, garnered media attention after U.S. President Barack Obama and most Western leaders, decided not to attend.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was also absent.
The Western states view the parade as both anti-Japanese and Beijing′s way of flaunting its military prowess amid growing tensions in the region.
The Korean president′s attendance is viewed as Seoul′s way of trying to take the diplomatic initiative in the region... and balance its relations with key ally, Washington, and major regional partner, Beijing.
"After the parade, President Park joined other VIP guests at a luncheon hosted by President Xi, where he is reported to have ordered officials to provide extra care for the Korean leader. Title: President Park seeking to resolve wartime sex slavery issue this year
Our top story this afternoon...
President Park Geun-hye has reiterated calls for Japan to resolve the issue of its wartime sexual enslavement of Korean women.
She has told Japanese media outlets that she wants the issue resolved before the end of the year.
The president′s remarks come a matter of days ahead of her first one-on-one summit with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

PRIME TIME NEWS 22:00
President Park Geun-hye is set to meet with her Japanese counterpart for the first time since taking office.
But expectations for any solid breakthroughs are rather low.
Korea ranks 4th in the World Bank′s "Easy to do business" report, beating rivals China and Japan with ease.

Title: President Park, Abe to hold summit on Nov. 2
President Park Geun-hye and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will hold their first summit on the sidelines of a trilateral meeting with China in Seoul.
Will it serve as more than just an ice-breaker between the two leaders?
Hwang Sung-hee, Arirang News."

STORYLINE
The White House dog, Barney, and his fellow four-legged friends Miss Beazley and Kitty star in their annual Christmas show this year, featuring other top dogs from Washington, including the president, George W. Bush himself.
The annual Christmas video by Bush's Scottish terrier is always a blockbuster and this year "Barney's Holiday Extravaganza" is no exception.
Also showing off their acting pedigree are First Lady Laura Bush, presidential advisor Karl Rove, press secretary Tony Snow, Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings and White House chief usher Gary Walters.
The video was designed to give viewers a tour of the White House's holiday decorations.
It features exclusive footage of the president's home from Barney's point of view.
Up to 45-thousand people will tour the White House during the holidays.
Catering demands are massive for a series of private parties hosted by the president and his wife.
The White House expects to get through 2,100 pounds (952.6 kilos) of sweet potatoes, four-thousand pounds (1,814.4 kilos) of shrimp, four-thousand pounds (1,814.4 kilos) of crab claws, plus 100 cases of asparagus, 15-thousand chocolate truffles and 20-thousand cookies.

Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's now-iconic president and COO, has made a point of being publicly passionate about all of his company's products.
He's been game to re-quote meme lines from his past and even become a puppet in the service of his job.
He's always touted how much he loves Nintendo's products, citing how he was a fan even before he started working for the company in 2003.
But there's one title he'd probably like to never play again.
Speaking with Mashable at E3, he said, "I love playing our content...except for Smash Brothers."
He added, "I really suck at Smash Brothers."

This work offers the best of both worlds: broad analysis of the first five presidential administrations and specific excerpts from original documents supporting and opposing the presidents' positions. George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe speak for themselves as they argue for their positions on the key political, social, and economic issues of their time in excerpts from primary sources. Excerpts from opposing positions on each issue give the presidents' critics a voice. An explanatory overview of each issue will help students to understand the argument and the context of the issue and to apply critical thinking skills to their understanding. The section on each president includes entries on 4-5 key issues of his administration, from the president's title at the beginning of Washington's administration to American Indian removal at the close of Monroe's term.
Primary documents include presidential memoirs, speeches, and letters, congressional speeches, Supreme Court decisions, newspaper editorials, and comments from prominent private citizens. An introductory overview of each president's administration provides a useful window through which to assess the specific debates and documents addressed. A timeline provides a chronological backdrop for the subject, and recommended readings following each section offer helpful direction for further study. Though the founding presidents remain revered today for their pioneering accomplishments in the early nation, this work reminds readers that the first executives faced ongoing opposition from members of the legislature, judiciary, and general public. Readers will gain a grounded understanding of the contested issues of the young nation and the way early decisions impacted our political system across time.

On March 12, ACS, along with The American Prospect and The Economic Policy Institute (EPI), will presented a discussion of campus sexual assault, Title IX compliance, and due process. Currently, 95 colleges and universities are under federal investigation for alleged violations of Title IX based on the mishandling of sexual assault complaints on campus. Academic institutions have ramped up efforts to investigate sexual assaults, and the Obama Administration has announced a task force to tackle the issue and make campuses safer. Meanwhile, some have expressed concern, including 28 Harvard Law School professors, that while stemming the epidemic of campus sexual assault is paramount, the due process rights of the accused are not always sufficiently protected. Can universities crack down on sexual violence without violating the due process rights of either the accused or accusers?
Panelists:
Judge Nancy Gertner, Senior Lecturer on Law, Harvard University Law School
Alexandra Brodsky, Feministing.com editor, Yale Law School student, and founding co-director of Know Your IX
Lisa Brown, Vice President and General Counsel, Georgetown University

Obama eulogizes pastor in Charleston shooting. Obama sings Amazing Grace at funeral of Charleston shooting victim Clementa Pinckney.
Washington (CNN) President Barack Obama on Friday eulogized the Rev. Clementa Pinckney, one of the victims in last week's church massacre, calling him a "man of God who lived by faith."
"We are here today to remember a man of God who lived by faith," Obama said. "A man who believed in things not seen. A man who believed there were better days ahead, off in the distance. A man of service who persevered knowing full well he would not receive all those things he was promised, because he believed his efforts would provide a better life for those who followed."
The President's remarks both memorialized the victims and touched upon the current controversy surrounding the Confederate flag and what he said was a need for more gun control in the wake of the tragedy.
"By taking down that flag we express God's grace," he said.
Obama finished his remarks by breaking into song, leading the assembled in a rendition of "Amazing Grace."
Friday's funeral service for Pinckney isn't the first time Obama delivered a high-profile eulogy, and with a year and a half remaining in office, it may not be the last.
But when the President stood in historic downtown Charleston to remember the slain pastor and eight others shot down in their church last week, his speech moved beyond just grief for the victims -- Obama stepped directly into a national conversation about race in which he plays a central role.
President Barack Obama ended his at times solemn, at times rousing eulogy for Rev. Clementa Pinckney, who was killed along with eight other African-American churchgoers last week, by leading the congregation in “Amazing Grace.”
After repeating those words, “Amazing Grace,” several times, the president paused before launching into the song as the mourners joined him.
