In 2000, the independent publisher Bear & Company joined with Inner Traditions, moving from Santa Fe, New Mexico, where it had been founded in 1980 by Gerry Clow and astrologer Barbara Hand Clow.
Inner Traditions publishes other imprints, including Healing Arts Press, Destiny Books, Park Street Press, Bindu Books, and Bear Cub Books.
Notable authors published primarily or exclusively by Inner Traditions include many of the English language translations of the little-known, yet historically influential, Sicilian occultist ultra-rightist Julius Evola, in addition to:
Richard Smoley is an author and philosopher focusing on the world’s mystical and esoteric teachings, particularly those of Western civilization.
Smoley was born in Waterbury, Connecticut, in 1956. He attended the Taft School in Watertown, Connecticut, and took a bachelor’s degree magna cum laude in classics at Harvard University in 1978. Smoley went on to Oxford University, where in 1980, he received a second bachelor’s degree from the Honour School of Literae Humaniores (in philosophy and classical literature). He received his M.A. from Oxford in 1985.
While Smoley was at Oxford, he came in contact with a small group that was studying the Kabbalah, co-founded by the British Kabbalist and author Warren Kenton (Z'ev ben Shimon Halevi). Here Smoley was first introduced to many of the ideas he has discussed in his writings. Smoley subsequently started Kabbalah groups along similar lines in San Francisco, New York, and Knoxville, Tennessee.
Smoley moved to San Francisco in 1980. In 1982 he began working for California Farmer magazine, the state’s leading agricultural publication, and became managing editor in 1983. Smoley helped broaden the magazine’s coverage to include controversial topics such as organic farming, and the California Farmer helped bring organic farming into the agricultural mainstream. Smoley left California Farmer in 1988.

The Guide is a 1958 novel written in English by the Indian author R. K. Narayan. Like most of his works the novel is based on Malgudi, the fictional town in South India. The novel describes the transformation of the protagonist, Raju, from a tour guide to a spiritual guide and then one of the greatest holy men of India.
The novel brought its author the 1960 Sahitya Akademi Award for English, by the Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters.
Railway Raju (nicknamed) is a disarmingly corrupt guide who falls in love with a beautiful dancer, Rosie, the neglected wife of archaeologist Marco. Marco doesn't approve of Rosie's passion for dancing. Rosie, encouraged by Raju, decides to follow her dreams and start a dancing career. They start living together and Raju's mother, as she does not approve of their relationship, leaves them. Raju becomes Rosie's stage manager and soon, with the help of Raju's marketing tactics, Rosie becomes a successful dancer. Raju, however, develops an inflated sense of self-importance and tries to control her. Raju gets involved in a case of forgery and gets a two-year sentence. After completing the sentence, Raju passes through a village where he is mistaken for a sadhu (a spiritual guide). Reluctantly, as he does not want to return in disgrace to Malgudi, he stays in an abandoned temple. There is a famine in the village and Raju is expected to keep a fast in order to make it rain. Raju confesses the entire truth about his past to Velan, who had mistaken Raju as a sadhu. With media publicizing his fast, a huge crowd gathers (much to Raju's resentment) to watch him fast. After fasting for several days, he goes to the riverside one morning as part of his daily ritual, where his legs sag down as he feels that the rain is falling in the hills. The ending of the novel leaves unanswered the question of whether he died, and whether the drought has really ended.

In my first ever video blog I discuss what Eckhart Tolle calls Inner Body Awareness, which is cultivating sensitivity to the field of energy pervading the human body. This energy has been called 'qi' by the Chinese and is loosely translated as the life-force that pervades all living things. However, because energy cannot die, we apprehend that there is an element of mystery to qi. I share my experiences working with this kind of awareness, as developed by my practices of yoga and qi gong (working with the qi). I believe developing and honing this kind of awareness can fundamentally transform one's life by helping us to become more embodied and less stuck in hyper-mental states of over-thinking and obsessive thought that are plaguing modern humanity with all kinds of stress related disorder...

Many people have been experiencing major changes and disconnections in their personal lives with family, friends, beliefs, traditions, and many other pre-set programs that have conditioned the lifestyles of us all. There are many individuals scattered around the world who are feeling isolated as they go thru self-realizations and connect to their own inner truths that are completely opposite of their programmed lifestyles and the those of the people they are closest to. Because the world is still operating under many pre-programmed traditions, many find themselves in conflict and frustration during the holiday season. A lot of this has to do with having so many embedded layers of memories from the past created by these holidays and traditions, but now, no longer resonating with those progr...

Len will tell the remarkable story revealed in 2005 by a team of six active and retired Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) officials about a top secret, highly compartmentalized space program officially designated Project Crystal Knight, but now known as Project Serpo. In July, 1965, twelve American military personnel were sent to a planet in a distant star system on an alien spacecraft for a projected stay of ten years. The details of this amazing adventure were released to a dedicated website by Anonymous, the spokesman for the group of six. Len's book, Secret Journey to Planet Serpo, published in 2013, has been on the publisher's Best Sellers list for over eight months. The story of this landmark event escaped the normal suppression of top secret information only because it was under t...

These writings have greatly influenced the Western esoteric tradition and were considered to be of great importance during...
