Heidi Grant Halvorson: So there are lots of biases that you can basically count on your perceiver being subject to. They’re going to interfere with the way this person sees you. The first and probably the most common is the confirmation bias. So confirmation bias is the brain’s tendency to once you start to kind of go get a sense of what someone is like so you show in an initial interaction you start to feel like this is a funny person or this is a smart person or this is someone I can trust. And once you start to have that initial hunch your brain naturally looks for information that confirms that initial hunch and kind of ignores everything else. Psychologists also refer to this tendency to really latch on to early information about a person as the primacy effect. And basically what that means is the information we learn first about another person disproportionately shapes our understanding of them afterward. And so, you know, in a way I sometimes feel bad talking about that because I’d love to be the person that came and said you know how everyone tells you that first impressions are so important. Don’t worry about it. They’re not that important. If anything what the science shows is that they’re really more important than you even think they are because that first impression is those – the initial information that other person gets about you will have a really major effect on everything else they see.

Bias is an inclination to present or hold a partial perspective at the expense of (possibly equally valid) alternatives. Anything biased generally is one-sided, and therefore lacks a neutral point of view. Bias can come in many forms.
A cognitive bias is the human tendency to make systematic decisions in certain circumstances based on cognitive factors rather than evidence. Bias arises from various processes that are sometimes difficult to distinguish. These processes include information-processing shortcuts, motivational factors, and social influence. Such biases can result from information-processing shortcuts called heuristics. They include errors in judgment, social attribution, and memory. Cognitive biases are a common outcome of human thought, and often drastically skew the reliability of anecdotal and legal evidence. It is a phenomenon studied in cognitive science and social psychology.
Media bias is the bias of journalists and news producers within the mass media, in the selection of which events and stories are reported and how they are covered. The term "media bias" implies a pervasive or widespread bias contravening the standards of journalism, rather than the perspective of an individual journalist or article. The direction and degree of media bias in various countries is widely disputed.

So confirmation bias is the brain’s tendency to once you start to kind of go get a sense of what someone is like so you show in an initial interaction you start to feel like this is a funny person or this is a smart person or this is someone I can trust. And once you start to have that initial hunch your brain naturally looks for information that confirms that initial hunch and kind of ignores everything else. Psychologists also refer to this tendency to really latch on to early information about a person as the primacy effect. And basically what that means is the information we learn first about another person disproportionately shapes our understanding of them afterward. And so, you know, in a way I sometimes feel bad talking about that because I’d love to be the person that came and said you know how everyone tells you that first impressions are so important. Don’t worry about it. They’re not that important. If anything what the science shows is that they’re really more important than you even think they are because that first impression is those – the initial information that other person gets about you will have a really major effect on everything else they see.

I recently bought a 1987X reissue 50w Marshall Amp and decided to show how to bias the amp after a tube change. There's lots of useful information about tubes, matching etc. and shows how to do things the easy way. I recently bought a 1987X reissue 50w Marshall Amp and decided to show how to bias the amp after a tube change. There's lots of useful information about tubes, matching etc. and shows how to do things the easy way. This video shows the TAD Bias Master in use too and a few things about two new tubes that were mismatched and how to solve that.
Later Ill be making a video of how to convert this amp to master volume and some other nice tweaks and in this video I show why I chose this amp as the platform... and not an original 1987 50 watt amplifier.

In this lecture, he shows how using stereotypical responses doesn't work, and describes exactly what methods to use when answering difficult questions on Islam. This talk also discusses ruling on philosophy (western philosophy) - Aristotle, Socrates, etc (What Imam Malik, Imam Abu Hanifa said about such things) all about "Muslim philosophers".What is the proper approach to giving dawah regarding such matters and current trends on women's "rights" vs Islamic rights for women.

Yasir Qadhi was born in Houston, Texas and completed his primary and secondary education in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He graduated with a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston, after which he was accepted as a student at the Islamic University of Madinah. After completing a diploma in Arabic, he graduated with a B.A. from the College of Hadith and Islamic Sciences. Thereafter, he completed a M.A. in Islamic Theology from the College of Dawah.
His published works include Riya'a: The Hidden Shirk, Du'aa: The Weapon of the Believer, and An Introduction to the Sciences of the Qur'an.
Yasir Qadhi is currently pursuing his doctorate, in Religious Studies, at Yale University in New Haven, CT. At AlMaghrib Instiute he teaches the Light of Guidance and the Light Upon Light courses, which focus on aqeedah.
