A spline, or the more modern term flexible curve, consists of a long strip fixed in position at a number of points that relaxes to form and hold a smooth curve passing through those points for the purpose of transferring that curve to another material.
Before computers were used for creating engineering designs, drafting tools were employed by designers drawing by hand. To draw curves, especially for shipbuilding, draftsmen often used long, thin, flexible strips of wood, plastic, or metal called splines (or laths, not to be confused with lathes). The splines were held in place with lead weights (called ducks because of their duck-like shape). The elasticity of the spline material combined with the constraint of the control points, or knots, would cause the strip to take the shape that minimized the energy required for bending it between the fixed points, this being the smoothest possible shape.
Splines are more recently referred to as flexible curves and perform much of the original function. The main difference between splines and flexible curves is that the control points of flexible curves are entirely internal in their housing. This has one advantage over splines: whereas the draftsman had to first set up the spline and control points before moving the object to be marked to the spline in that order only, with flexible curves the draftsman can also set up the flexible curve before carefully moving the flexible curve to the object to be marked.
Installing - Flat Screen Spline (FSS) using Dish Soap as a lubricant (3 of 3 FSS videos). See my other 2 Youtube videos on Flat Screen Spline you are having problems installing FLAT SCREEN SPLINE (FSS)--See comments below for the links to those two videos. Note put on the full strength dish soap in the frame crevice before you put the screen in, but don't leave it set too long so it doesn't leak down the frame or dry up. Thanks. Extremely Detailed - Flat Screen Spline (FSS) Installation instructions (note this is video 2 of 3 of mine on Flat Screen Spline on Youtube). Youtube video 1 of 3 discussed different spline types including Flat Screen Spline. Youtube video # 3 of 3 shows how using full strength liquid dish detergent aids in the installation of hard to install Flat Screen Spline. If you like please Subscribe and like. Thanks

Pre-rolling screen fabric and using the back-rolling technique are key to a perfect installation of Super Screen fabric on to a standard frame utilizing the spline groove on the frame and flat spline. The back-rolling technique minimizes the possibility of bubbles developing as the screen is being affixed to the frame.
Join the Mother/Daughter team of Vicki & Steph as we take you through the steps and techniques needed to re-screen Steph’s porch. After much research, Steph decided the project was doable for the two of us! (Click ‘Show More’ for materials, tools, and tips) Materials: - Screen—it comes in rolls - Spline—there are various diameters and lengths—the 100 yard bag was the most economical - Spline Mouse Tools: - Needle nose and flat nose pliers—used to pull the spline - Various hook tools—used to pry away old spline. Please note: brace yourself as you remove the spline so you don’t lose your balance and wear gloves to avoid cuts. - Straight Edge Knife—used to cut screen to size, trim new screen, can also be used to cut spline - Scissors—another tool to cut screen/spline - Gaff tape - Cleaning ...

Product ID: RAM 114BMPU http://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-114BMPU The combination bulkhead/flat surface mounting base can be installed on a flat surface such as the deck or on a vertical surface. This mounting base features a locking feature which requires the release of a plunger to remove the rod holder. Compatible with RAM post and spline rod holders and RAM wedge mount ball adapters.
In Part 2 Bill adds the third and fourth bit of spline then takes it outside to plane the top flat. This makes everything ready for future track installation.
Stroken Spline; is a video of my project creating a splined coupling for a custom modified drive to a winch assembly. The splined coupling has a spline that matches the drive motor and the other end is made to slip over a keyed shaft. As I set up to create the spline bore and the rest of the shaping that goes into the project, I have to modify my machine accessories and fab some tooling to getter done. I give you a quickie demo on setting up an index head for a combination of 14 teeth spline and I show a good demo on creating the form tools into the shape to cut the splines and keyway. As usual I may also have a few regular habits that I think nothing of and you pick up on, giving us more comments to follow the video. Thanks for watching and visit the Wright Store to order your new hat, s...
In this video I show how I make a splined shaft to connect two driving components together. Material was 8620 which I heat treat and hard turn to finish. I also heat treat the #11 Brown and Sharpe dead center I made to be able to spline this part using my Cincinnati dividing head. At the end I gave a request for anyone that may know where I can find an original tailstock for my Cincinnati 12in dividing head, if you do please email me or contact me here as I would certainly like to have one. If you managed to make it to the end of this big project thanks for sticking with me!
Using Cinema4D Splines to create your first 3D objects is a great start. They are easy to understand, yet give you a lot of freedom in creation. In this tutorial I'll get you started with Splines, NURBS and NURBS-Generators. I'll cover all the basics about Splines and afterwards demonstrate the Lathe, Extrude, Sweep and Loft Generators. No idea what all the words mean? No problem, just watch. ------- CONTENT ------- 00:25 Modeling Methods Overview 02:05 What are splines? 03:44 What are NURBS? 07:20 Working with Splines 16:25 NURBS-Generators (Extrude, Sweep, Lathe...) 30:27 Summary ------- FEEDBACK ------- Did you like the tutorial and want more? Since presenting for MAXON at NAB 2014, I've received a bunch of requests asking me to go further in depth on how I used the Cel Shader in a client spot in my presentation. In this tutorial, I'll show you just that: how to create this cool, stylistic, illustrative 2D look to 3D objects in Cinema 4D. We will achieve this look by using the often overlooked Cel Shader & Spline Shader. Learning how to leverage C4D in your 2D workflow is critical when it comes to saving time creating elements and animating. If you've ever tried to make something look 3D with 2D objects, you know how painstaking it can be to sell the 3D depth using flat layers. I'll also show how you can use the Cel Shader to apply shadows to objects with 100% luminance. One final note, be sure when you render to turn up the...
1 - When installing the clutch plates ( discs ) on the clutch hub make sure they are CLEANED of grease oil and dirt. 2 - when installing the clutch hub be sure to locate the small piece of metal ( the lock or key ) flat to the spline ( with the curved part seated in the spline or shaft and the flat side out ) and make sure the clutch hub seats properly flat on the shaft coming out of the gear box to do this you can get a long screw driver and push the small key out toward the clutch hub as you do the clutch hub bolt up My bike had a lunging or grabbing clutch, i couldn't get neutral when standing still, when i inspected the clutch hub i found a broken bolt, and when removing the clutch hub i bound a nut on the end of it's thread, to the clutch hub was cactus and this vid is the renewal...
An Introduction to Style Spline, a new feature in SolidWorks 2014. The style spline uses Bezier curves, while the existing spline tool uses b-spline curves. This allows for easier control of the shape and always creates smooth curves. These splines are mathematically more simple, so a complex tool is inherently less powerful, but the style spline is likely to become my spline sketching tool of choice.
