1956 (MCMLVI) was a leap year starting on Sunday (dominical letter AG) of the Gregorian calendar, the 1956th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 956th year of the 2nd millennium, the 56th year of the 20th century, and the 7th year of the 1950s decade.
A home is a dwelling-place used as a permanent or semi-permanent residence for an individual, family, household or several families in a tribe. It is often a house, apartment, or other building, or alternatively a mobile home, houseboat, yurt or any other portable shelter. Homes typically provide areas and facilities for sleeping, preparing food, eating and hygiene. Larger groups may live in a nursing home, children's home, convent or any similar institution. A homestead also includes agricultural land and facilities for domesticated animals. Where more secure dwellings are not available, people may live in the informal and sometimes illegal shacks found in slums and shanty towns. More generally, "home" may be considered to be a geographic area, such as a town, village, suburb, city, or country.
Transitory accommodation in a treatment facility for a few weeks is not normally considered permanent enough to replace a more stable location as 'home'. In 2005, 100 million people worldwide were estimated to be homeless.
Milo Greene is a self-described cinematic pop band that formed in Los Angeles, California. Milo Greene is a quartet, with three lead singers. Band members Robbie Arnett, Graham Fink, and Marlana Sheetz share lead and backing vocal duties, often switching instruments during performances with Curtis Marrero on percussion.
The band described their sound to Lauren Moraski of CBS News by explaining, "'Originally when we started this band we wanted to create music that we could potentially see being placed in movies and TV,' said singer/multi-instrumentalist Sheetz. 'We really love scoring and that's how we wanted the music to sound. Very cinematic -- which is kind of why we like to call it cinematic-pop.'"
Milo Greene is the name of a fictitious booking agent, a persona created by the band to help them get gigs in the early days of playing shows. The band describes Milo's identity to The Guardian: "He's British. He wears a three-piece-suit. He wears a monocle. He's albino. He has chops, sideburns. He's confident, charming, well-read, well-spoken. He's a gentlemen [sic], the kind of guy we all aspire to be." The band decided to keep the name of their fictitious booking agent for the group.
Clifford Brown (October 30, 1930 – June 26, 1956), aka "Brownie", was an American jazz trumpeter. He died at the age of 25 in a car accident, leaving behind only four years' worth of recordings. Nonetheless, he had a considerable influence on later jazz trumpet players, including Donald Byrd, Lee Morgan, Booker Little, Arturo Sandoval and Freddie Hubbard. He was also a composer of note: two of his compositions, "Joy Spring" and "Daahoud", have become jazz standards.
Brown won the Down Beat critics' poll for the "New Star of the Year" in 1954; he was inducted into the Down Beat "Jazz Hall of Fame" in 1972 in the critics' poll.
Brown was born into a musical family in a progressive East-Side neighborhood of Wilmington, Delaware. His father organized his four youngest sons, including Brown, into a vocal quartet. Around age ten, Brown started playing trumpet at school after becoming fascinated with the shiny trumpet his father owned. At age thirteen, upon entering senior high, his father bought him his own trumpet and provided him with private lessons. As a junior in high school, he received lessons from Robert Boysie Lowery and played in "a jazz group that Lowery organized." He even began making trips to Philadelphia. Brown took pride in his neighborhood and earned a good education from Howard High.

People love it when we rescue old cars from the junkyard. We'll see what happens when they see this episode of Roadkill presented by Dodge, during which we literally hack a '56 Buick Century out of a thorn bush it’s been sitting in for 25 years, then continue slashing as we attempt to mount the body on a '73 Corvette chassis. Oh yeah, we hacked up that car, too. Watch for more Sawzalls, weed whacking, and plasma cutting per minute than any other episode of Roadkill. "Blues in the Closet" is a studio album by the jazz pianist Bud Powell, released in 1958 by Verve, featuring a session that Powell recorded at Fine Sound Studios in New York in September 1956. This session is the last that Powell recorded for Verve, and re-unites him with Ray Brown for the first time (in the studio at least) since the first Verve sessions back in 1949-50. Fittingly, it ends with "52nd Street Theme", the traditional closing number in the heyday of bebop in the nineteen-forties. This was Bud's last album for Verve and to my ears it's always been a winner. For this review I am going to sidestep the raging argument about these not being Bud's best years. Listen to the sound samples and judge that for yourself. What makes this album so special to me is Ray Brown's bass and O...
