Despite its resemblance to its clamshell contemporaries, the Sony Clié PEG-NR70 wasn’t a phone. Sony called it a "Personal Entertainment Organizer," but it was basically a PDA on steroids. So I've always wanted a PDA since I was a small little Apav, I even got a toy one from my school's book fair! Which actually was confiscated by my teacher because she thought it was a gameboy! Man teachers can be so headstrong... wait where was I? Oh ya PDAs! Man I'm using a lot of exclamation marks... Anyways this is a organizing device that was most popular in the late 90s and early 00s, pandering to adults and nerdy kids like me!

Ganz ohne Sprache sollte der Film funktionieren, da im Briefing nicht klar war, welche europäischen Landesgesellschaften den Film nutzen werden. Das haben wir getan. Der Film stellt dramaturgisch alle herausragenden Produkteigenschaften dar. Der Vorstand in Europa war begeistert, in Japan auch, so dass der Film neben dem geplanten Einsatz auf der CeBIT, auch in gekürzter Form bei n-tv gesendet wurde.

It's simple to get it running. I'm using Ubuntu 10.10.
-apt-get install lcdproc
-search for palmorb in the internet and download it to your palm via hotsync
-sudo modprobe visor (this is the driver that creates the ttyUSB0 or 1 in dev, load it to get the hotsync working with you usb palm)
-open the /etc/LCDd.conf and change the driver to "Driver=MtxOrb". In the MtxOrb session, change the Device to "Device=/dev/ttyUSB0 in case your palm is USB or "Device=/dev/ttyS0" in case your palm connect with serial cable.
-In your palm open the PalmOrb, after that will be created automatically the ttyUSB0 and ttyUSB1 in Ubuntu dev folder. Open the menu and choose "Serial...", in there choose USB to work with your usb palm or serial/rs-232 to work with your serial palm.
-Now run in sequence as root to test if it's ok the following on the terminal:
# LCDd & (you should see a message telling it's connected, something like "CLIENTS=1 and SCREENS=6)
# lcdproc -T & (if works you'll see 6 different screens)
The lcdproc has other options you can combine like lcdproc C M X but in my case "C M X" doesn't work. I never had problems to sync my palm with Ubuntu but in this 10.10 version I had to load the visor module to get the USB ports visible and then sync my palm with jpilot. I put it on the /etc/modules to get it in boot time and works fine.

CLIÉ
The Sony CLIÉ was a series of personal digital assistants running the Palm Operating System developed and marketed by Sony from 2000 to 2005. The devices introduced many new features to the PDA market, such as a jog-wheel interface, high-resolution displays, and Sony technologies like Memory Stick slots and ATRAC3 audio playback. Most models were designed and manufactured in Japan. The name is an acronym for creativity, lifestyle, innovation, emotion though formerly communication, link, information and entertainment. It was initially an attempt at a new coinage term, though it means "tool" in the Jèrriais language.
The CLIÉ handhelds were distinguished from other Palm OS models by their emphasis on multimedia capabilities, including photo, video, and audio playback, long before any other Palm OS PDAs had such capabilities. Later models have been credited with spurring competition in the previously stagnant Palm market, closing many of the gaps that existed between Palm OS PDAs and those powered by Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system, particularly on the multimedia front, but also with Sony's proprietary application launcher interface.

So I've always wanted a PDA since I was a small little Apav, I even got a toy one from my school's book fair! Which actually was confiscated by my teacher because she thought it was a gameboy! Man teachers can be so headstrong... wait where was I? Oh ya PDAs! Man I'm using a lot of exclamation marks... Anyways this is a organizing device that was most popular in the late 90s and early 00s, pandering to adults and nerdy kids like me!

-search for palmorb in the internet and download it to your palm via hotsync

It's simple to get it running. I'm using Ubuntu 10.10.
-apt-get install lcdproc
-search for palmorb in the internet and download it to your palm via hotsync
-sudo modprobe visor (this is the driver that creates the ttyUSB0 or 1 in dev, load it to get the hotsync working with you usb palm)
-open the /etc/LCDd.conf and change the driver to "Driver=MtxOrb". In the MtxOrb session, change the Device to "Device=/dev/ttyUSB0 in case your palm is USB or "Device=/dev/ttyS0" in case your palm connect with serial cable.
-In your palm open the PalmOrb, after that will be created automatically the ttyUSB0 and ttyUSB1 in Ubuntu dev folder. Open the menu and choose "Serial...", in there choose USB to work with your usb palm or serial/rs-232 to work with your serial palm.
-Now run in sequence as root to test if it's ok the following on the terminal:
# LCDd & (you should see a message telling it's connected, something like "CLIENTS=1 and SCREENS=6)
# lcdproc -T & (if works you'll see 6 different screens)
The lcdproc has other options you can combine like lcdproc C M X but in my case "C M X" doesn't work. I never had problems to sync my palm with Ubuntu but in this 10.10 version I had to load the visor module to get the USB ports visible and then sync my palm with jpilot. I put it on the /etc/modules to get it in boot time and works fine.
