http://www.vladtv.com - As one of the pioneers of Hip-Hop, Grandmaster Caz has seen a massive shift in the culture since its inception, and he took a moment to focus on the gangsta rap movement during the '90s.
The New York emcee explained that he saw a detrimental impact on the culture when gangsta rap was on the rise, because it killed out all of the conscious rappers at the time. Grandmaster Caz then gave props to N.W.A., and shared that Eazy-E used to come to a Zulu Nation club in L.A., but the East Coast legend stuck by his thoughts on the negative impact he feels their group and others had on the Hip-Hop culture.
Check out more of what Grandmaster Caz had to say in the above clip.

Documentary from Sonali Aggarwal: Starring Afrika Bambaataa, KRS-ONE, Busy Bee, Kool Keith, MC Lyte, Slick Rick, Jean Grae, Gemini and other notable people being part of the Hip Hop movement. It began with the beat of the drum. With the beat, came a voice for those without one. From this voice, came a movement. Overcoming the odds, the originators of Hip Hop took their music from block parties of New York City streets to world wide radio waves. During the early years, the music and message reached new heights by exploring humanity, politics, and street life, while keeping it real and having fun. But what ever happened to Hip Hop? Currently the most pervasive music worldwide, its roots have been forgotten, its message perverted. With Hip Hop in the spotlight, it's time to put it back on track. This documentary presents views from Hip Hop founders, contributors, and artists in an attempt to return its audience to the four principles: Peace, Unity, Love & Having Fun

First broadcast in 1987 on the UK's Channel 4, Bombin' was directed by documentary filmmaker Dick Fontaine and was a sequel to his earlier 1984 documentary "Beat This!", once again taking a look at how American hip-hop culture was making its way over the pond to the UK, this time using the lens of the graffiti and tagging subcultures.
The documentary offers a fascinating look at 1980's UK hip-hop and graffiti culture and specifically for Massive Attack fans, 3D during one segment is also featured tagging alongside future Drum n' Bass/Jungle musician Goldie in Birmingham. The two had already at this point setup the Trans-Atlantic Federation, a collective of UK/US based graffiti artists.
Perhaps the most interesting element of the Bombin' documentary, is when we see some of the British establishment's dismissal and even disdain to the tagging ethos and how that further alludes to the social implications of ethnicity and poverty, and their relationship with the hip-hop culture before it became widely accepted.

Brim In The UK - 04:39-09:45

The Culture: A Chicago Based Hip Hop Documentary
Presented by Lyrical Lemonade
Shot / Directed by Cole Bennett
This film is to show you the versatility of Chicago as it is a city that truly cannot be pinpointed when it comes to genre of hip hop. You will se different perspectives of the city throughout The Culture, yet everyone is chasing the same dream. Although violence is an aspect of Chicago that you cannot be ignorant to, this city is way more than just that. This film intentionally has no narration for the reason that narrations are intended to mold a perspective - this is for you to form your own. I hope everyone enjoys it, I spent a lot of time putting this together!
My apologies for the audio problems, I used an iPhone microphone to capture the audio due to it being a no budget film. You have to work with what you got.
Songs played + everyone involved are listed at the end of the film.

“River People” is a song that Jaco Pastorius wrote and was released on Weather Report's Mr. Gone album in 1978. This remix (of a 38-year-old song) was done in tribute to the late, great Jaco, who left us at the very young age of 35-years old. His music and transcending style of bass-playing, will live on forever!
“River People” reminds me of where I now live, here in Namlot village just north of and next to the Kok River in Chiang Rai, Northern Thailand. I added the sounds of moving river water, birds singing and temple gongs, which can all be heard here almost daily, in the village. I also decided to add the south central LA, hip-hop groove as a reminder of my culture and distant childhood past. Some of my oldest memories come from living with my mom and dad in the Jordan Downs Public Community Housing Project in Los Angeles' south central, Watts district. Although it was a very negative and crime-filled place, people there, loved to party and dance their worries and cares away, just as many “river people” in the village, love to do here at weekend concerts next to the Kok River. Music and dancing can always be found in every culture, worldwide. It's the universal language and it's always fun to explore!

The Fugees Freestyle & Zulu Nation talks on Rap City!
The Universal Zulu Nation is an international hip hop awareness group formed and headed by hip hop artist Afrika Bambaataa.
Originally known simply as the Organization, it arose in the 1970s as the reformed New York City gang the Black Spades, a street gang from South Bronx. While the Black Spades were the base of the organization, other reformed gangs contributed additional members, notably the Savage Nomads, Seven Immortals and Savage Skulls among others.[2] Members began to organize cultural events for youths, combining local dance and music movements into what would become known as the various elements of hip hop culture.
In many interviews, Afrika Bambaataa has spoken of the name "Zulu" as being inspired by the 1964 film of the same name.[citation needed]
The imagery of the Zulu Nation has varied at times as well. During the 1970s, and 1980s, Afrika Bambaataa and the Zulu Nation members would often clothe themselves in costumes representing different cultures of the world and different factions of the Nation throughout the world may utilize different cultural symbols and themes to express basic Zulu philosophy.[citation needed]
Since the early 1980s, the Zulu Nation has since established (autonomous) branches in Japan, France, the UK, Australia, Canada, South Korea and the Cape Flats in Cape Town South Africa.[citation needed]
From the late 1980s, at the height of the Afrocentric movement in hip hop (when artists such as KRS-One, Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest, the Native Tongues, and Rakim hit success), the movement seemed to be incorporating many doctrines from the Nation of Islam, the Nation of Gods and Earths, and the Nuwaubians. In the mid 1990s some members began to break off starting their own projects or organizations such as Ill Crew Universal.

Aerosmith is an American rock band, sometimes referred to as "the Bad Boys from Boston" and "America's Greatest Rock and Roll Band." Their style, which is rooted in blues-based hard rock, has come to also incorporate elements of pop, heavy metal, and rhythm and blues, and has inspired many subsequent rock artists. The band was formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1970. Guitarist Joe Perry and bassist Tom Hamilton, originally in a band together called the Jam Band, met up with vocalist/pianist/harmonicist Steven Tyler, drummer Joey Kramer, and guitarist Ray Tabano, and formed Aerosmith. In 1971, Tabano was replaced by Brad Whitford, and the band began developing a following in Boston.
Run–D.M.C. is an American hip hop group from Hollis, Queens, New York, founded in 1981 by Joseph Simmons, Darryl McDaniels, and Jam Master Jay. The group is widely acknowledged as one of the most influential acts in the history of hip hop culture. Run–D.M.C. is one of the best-known hip hop acts in the 1980s who, along with LL Cool J, The Beastie Boys, and Public Enemy, signified the advent of the new school of hip hop music. They were the first group in the genre to have a gold album and be nominated for a Grammy Award. They were the first to earn a platinum record, the first to earn a multiplatinum certification, the first to have videos on MTV, and the first to appear on American Bandstand and the cover of Rolling Stone. Run–D.M.C. was the only hip hop act to perform at Live Aid in 1985. The group was among the first to highlight the importance of the MC and DJ relationship. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked them number 48 in their list of the greatest musical artists of all time. In 2007, Run–D.M.C. was named "The Greatest Hip Hop Group of All Time" by MTV.com and "Greatest Hip Hop Artist of All Time" by VH1.

Tupac Amaru Shakur (born Lesane Parish Crooks; June 16, 1971 – September 13, 1996), also known by his stage names 2Pac and briefly as Makaveli, was an American rapper, songwriter, and actor. Shakur has sold over 75 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. His double disc albums All Eyez on Me and his Greatest Hits are among the best selling albums in the United States. He has been listed and ranked as one of the greatest artists of all time by many magazines, including Rolling Stone which ranked him 86th on its list of The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Consistently ranked as one of the greatest rappers ever, he was ranked number 2 by MTV in their list of The Greatest MCs of All-Time in 2006. 2Pac is also ranked as the most influential rapper of all time.
Shakur began his career as a roadie, backup dancer, and MC for the alternative hip hop group Digital Underground, eventually branching off as a solo artist.[12][13][14] The themes of most of Shakur's songs revolved around the violence and hardship in inner cities, racism and other social problems. Both of his parents and several other of his family were members of the Black Panther Party, whose ideals were reflected in his songs.
During the latter part of his career, Shakur was a vocal participant in the so-called East Coast–West Coast hip hop rivalry, becoming involved in conflicts with other rappers, producers and record-label staff members, most notably The Notorious B.I.G. and the label Bad Boy Records.[15]
On September 7, 1996, Shakur was shot multiple times in a drive-by shooting at the intersection of Flamingo Road and Koval Lane in Las Vegas, Nevada.[16] He was taken to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, where he died six days later.
At a Mobb Deep concert following the death of Shakur and the release of The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory, Cormega recalled in an interview that the fans were all shouting "Makaveli",[142] and emphasized the influence of The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory and of Shakur himself even in New York at the height of the media-dubbed 'intercoastal rivalry'.[143]
Shakur is held in high esteem by other MCs – in the book How to Rap, Bishop Lamont notes that Shakur "mastered every element, every aspect" of rapping[144] and Fredro Starr of Onyx says Shakur "was a master of the flow."[145] "Every rapper who grew up in the Nineties owes something to Tupac," wrote 50 Cent. "He didn't sound like anyone who came before him."[5] About.com for their part named Shakur the most influential rapper ever.[146]
To preserve Shakur's legacy, his mother founded the Shakur Family Foundation (later renamed the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation or TASF) in 1997. The TASF's stated mission is to "provide training and support for students who aspire to enhance their creative talents." The TASF sponsors essay contests, charity events, a performing arts day camp for teenagers and undergraduate scholarships. The Foundation officially opened the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts (TASCA) in Stone Mountain, Georgia, on June 11, 2005. On November 14, 2003, a documentary about Shakur entitled Tupac: Resurrection was released under the supervision of his mother and narrated entirely in his voice. It was nominated for Best Documentary in the 2005 Academy Awards. Proceeds will go to a charity set up by Shakur's mother Afeni. On April 17, 2003, Harvard University co-sponsored an academic symposium entitled "All Eyez on Me: Tupac Shakur and the Search for the Modern Folk Hero". The speakers discussed a wide range of topics dealing with Shakur's impact on everything from entertainment to sociology.[147]
Many of the speakers discussed Shakur's status and public persona, including State University of New York at Buffalo English professor Mark Anthony Neal who gave the talk "Thug Nigga Intellectual: Tupac as Celebrity Gramscian" in which he argued that Shakur was an example of the "organic intellectual" expressing the concerns of a larger group.[148] Professor Neal has also indicated in his writings that the death of Shakur has left a "leadership void amongst hip-hop artists."[149] Neal further describes him as a "walking contradiction", a status that allowed him to "make being an intellectual accessible to ordinary people."
