I’ve been receiving requests to do a show explaining
Wrongful Termination. Inquiries from the listening audience have varied such as…if someone can be fired for certain reasons and if they have a case against their Employer for letting them go. Or, if they have a case for workplace harassment or whistle blowing.
I invited
Susan Ichinose to be guest on the show to explain mediation and arbitration as an alternative to going to court. As we were rolling she uncovered that she dealt with employment law.
I am very thankful that we were able to touch on this very sensitive topic as I went through my own case in which one of my claims was Wrongful Termination.
Susan took a landmark case on
Appeal for Wrongful Termination, Parnar vs
Americana Hotels, which started the ball rolling on
Employment Law cases.
The Supreme Court ruled, for the first time, that an At Will Employee could sue for Wrongful Termination.
Susan Ichinose has over 36 years of experience as an advocate in complex commercial and employment litigation. Her first 20 years of practice were spent as a commercial litigator in downtown
Honolulu commercial law firms beginning with Mukai Ichiki Raffetto & MacMillan (joined in
1977), concentrating in employment-related claims, contract actions, real estate disputes, business torts (including fraud and antitrust), and appeals. She established her solo practice in
1999 to focus on alternative dispute resolution, commercial litigation and employment consultation. She has recently curtailed her litigation practice in order to concentrate entirely on her work as a neutral mediator, arbitrator, and independent workplace investigator, as well as an employment practices consultant and expert witness.
