Perhaps the best known of all his orchestral works Bax's Tintagel is a vivid tonal impression of the castle-crowned cliff of Tintagel in Cornwall. Here the legends of King Arthur and the scenic grandeur of the Atlantic Ocean fired Bax's imagination into producing some of the most vivid sea music ever written.
Bax himself wrote that the music brought, "...thoughts of many passionate and tragic incidents in the tales of King Arthur and King Mark... and that the piece ends as it began, with a picture of the castle still proudly fronting the sea and wind of centuries"
This is a full-throated performance by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, conducted by David Lloyd-Jones. Celtic music, played by a celtic ensemble. Stirring!

Quintet for harp and strings (1919)
This is a single-movement work for harp and string quartet by English composer Arnold Bax (1883-1953). He wrote the harp quintet at the time of his first visit to Ireland following the First World War. This visit led to Bax's lifelong fascination with Ireland and Irish mythology.

Nearly four years after completing Tintagel, the première of Bax's First Symphony was greeted with the newspaper headline 'Wonderful New Work Performed at Queen's Hall'. Over the following twelve years he wrote five more symphonies, but after completing the sixth in 1934 his compulsion to write music began to wane. He went on, nevertheless, to produce several notable chamber and orchestral pieces, including a Violin Concerto, and it was soon after finishing this in March 1938 that he embarked on his seventh and final symphony. The work had been fully sketched by October, and the orchestration was finished at Morar, on the west coast of Scotland, in January 1939, the very month that saw the death of Bax's beloved Yeats and exactly twenty years after the completion of Tintagel. He originally dedicated the symphony to the conductor Basil Cameron, but when it subsequently became an official commission for the New York World's Fair he was required to change the dedication, which now became 'To the People of America'. It was first played by the New York Philharmonic-Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall on 9th June 1939 under Sir Adrian Boult.
Like all of Bax's symphonies, the seventh is in three movements, the first of which is largely characterised by surging energy and buoyant optimism, as can be heard in the opening paragraph. After a brief pause, the mood becomes more playful, but the music soon reverts to more serious matters. A new, animated woodwind theme characterised by repeated notes leads into a syncopated passage revealing Bax at his most exuberant. Contrast is provided by a rich, lyrical melody first heard on cellos and cor anglais, and the development section is by turns strenuous, wistful and mysterious, but always with an underlying sense of momentum. The recapitulation culminates in the lyrical melody soaring confidently towards a harsh climactic flourish (brass and timpani) before the movement returns to the shadows from which it emerged.
Bax once curiously described the slow movement of this symphony as an 'intermezzo and trio', though intermezzi are not normally as extended and eventful as this one; and in praising Boult's first British performance he wrote that it 'expressed all the heavy summer languor which I meant to convey'. The outer sections may be predominantly languorous, but there are also moments of violent upheaval, as if the dreamlike atmosphere has been invaded by some dark nightmare. The central 'trio' bears the marking In Legendary Mood and features a more purposeful melody beginning on low woodwind against a busy solo violin accompaniment. The climax of the movement is ruthlessly hammered out, but the mood soon reverts to the lazy, unruffled calm of the opening.
'The third movement should start more deliberately', wrote Bax to Boult after hearing a recording of the New York première, '—a real 18FORTY romantic wallow!'. The movement is headed Theme and Variations, and after a rousing prelude the theme is quietly and soberly stated by the cellos and double basses. The variations lead into one another and range in mood from violent to tender, from ebullient to skittish. Bax once said of the final variation (the Epilogue) that it was 'as far as I can go', and indeed, with the advent of war only eight months after he had finished it, he lapsed into a musical silence that was to last until his appointment as Master of the King's Music in February 1942. Although he resumed composition, producing fanfares and marches for state occasions as well as music for the cinema, the stage and the concert hall, Bax never quite recovered the creative impulse that had driven him on during the inter-war years; and never again did he achieve the deeply moving serenity and poise to be found in the closing pages of his final symphony.

Bax completed his Symphony No.1 in E flat, not the first he had written, in 1921 in piano score, finishing the orchestration of the work by the following year. The slow movement he had written for what was originally to have been his third piano sonata was replaced by an orchestral movement that reflected more adequately the events of recent years. The symphony may be heard as a reaction not only to the tragedy of the war that had just finished, but even more to the tragedy of Ireland and the frustrated idealism and sacrifice of the Easter Rising of 1916. He calls for a large orchestra with four flutes, doubling also piccolo and bass flute, two oboes, cor anglais and heckelphone or bass oboe, four clarinets, including one doubling with an E flat clarinet and a bass clarinet, two bassoons and a double-bass sarrusaphone or double bassoon, four horns, three trumpets, three trombones, tuba, two harps, a percussion section including timpani, tenor, bass and side drum, gong, cymbals, triangle, glockenspiel celesta and xylophone, together with the usual strings. The use of lower pitched wind instruments gives a darker colour to much of the writing, with a telling use of percussion, the side drum with loosened snare in the slow movement, and the pointing of themes by the subtle very occasional use of celesta or xylophone. The work is dedicated to John Ireland.
The composer referred to the symphony as in E flat, without the qualification major or minor, and there are elements of each in the motif that starts the first movement, marked Allegro moderato e feroce. This sets the sinister and menacing character of the first subject, modified by a secondary element to it, based on a descending scale-figure, which mounts to a climax in which the two elements that make up the subject appear in a grandiose Largamente, A short bridge passage leads the way to a second subject worthy of Glazunov in its strongly lyrical character. Elements of the two subjects join together in relative tranquillity moving forward into a central development that also features an insistently repeated accompanying rhythmic figure, with a demonstrable mastery of the orchestral forces used. The recapitulation in a movement that is broadly in the customary tripartite symphonic first movement form, is relatively short, with the largamente first subject and the second, scored now for flute, accompanied by harps and upper strings, a return to gentle tranquillity. The movement ends with a coda that allows the bassoon initial prominence, before a strong E flat minor conclusion, Celtic mists brood over the second movement, as fragments of lower melody emerge through an accompaniment of harps and eerie tremolo strings.
The music moves forward to a dynamic climax, reinforced by the timpani, a relaxation of tension with a fragment of melody heard on the bass flute and cor anglais and then the sound of a medieval chant from bassoons and trombones, taken up by other wind instruments, as it is developed. A tragic mood, a strengthening of the first thematic material, returns, followed by a gentle version of the chant, before the movement ends as it had begun, The first element to appear in the third movement, a reminiscence of what has passed, is strongly stated by the brass, before an Allegro vivace offers livelier treatment of a derivative of the second movement, with instrumental textures and melodic motifs that might briefly suggest the language of Stravinsky. A melody for cor anglais, trumpet and viola, marked grotesquely, follows, a wild dance in its memories of the first subject of the first movement. With a shift of key, the heckelphone, first trombone and violas overtly recall the first theme, melting into a more lyrical mood as tranquillity is restored. The final triumphal march is based on the opening theme of the symphony, which, in spite of the brighter key of E flat major, never completely loses its implicitly threatening strength.

It opens with a five-note motif that is used throughout the entire poco lento section, which is heavily reminiscent of Sibelius's Symphony No. 4. The allegro con fuoco section that follows however is highly Baxian, and all the features of his composition style are evident here. The second subject sees the return of Sibelian moods, but Bax's comprehensive musical technique is noticeable. The recapitulation is particularly exciting, making it one of the most energetic opening movements of all Bax's symphonies.
The second movement is majestic and a relatively short slow movement for Bax, but makes good use of brass and the percussion section. It ends calmly as to ensure a contrast between this movement and the one that follows.
The finale begins with strong, repeated chords from the strings and woodwinds which quickly give way to a fast, fiery and energetic allegro section in which the influences of Russian composers is evident. Unlike in the previous symphonies, the epilogue is bold and majestic.

Sebastian Bach (born April 3, 1968) is a Canadian heavy metal singer who achieved mainstream success as frontman of Skid Row from 1987 to 1996. Since his departure from Skid Row, he has had many television roles, acted in Broadway plays, and led a successful solo career.
Bach was born Sebastian Philip Bierk on April 3, 1968, in Freeport, Bahamas, and raised in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. He attended nearby Lakefield College School in the same class as Michael Kulas, of the British rock group James, a year behind Felipe, Prince of Asturias and a year ahead of the comedian/actor Will Arnett. He is of Norwegian, French Canadian, and Native American descent. Bach's father was the visual artist David Bierk. He is the brother of retired NHL goaltender Zac Bierk, model/actress Heather Dylan Bierk, and Toronto-based artists Jeff, Nick, Alex, and Charles Bierk.
Skid Row initially formed in the late eighties with lead singer Matt Fallon. They began playing at various New Jersey clubs. Fallon would soon leave the band in 1987, leaving Skid Row without a singer. Bach, who had just left his previous band Madam X, was spotted singing at rock photographer Mark Weiss's wedding and the members asked him to join. He turned them down, but changed his mind after hearing the demo tapes of "Youth Gone Wild" and "18 and Life". He sent them a demo of him singing "Saved By Love." They loved it and flew him to New Jersey where they began playing gigs. Sebastian also recorded demos with Bon Jovi & Sabo's friend Jack Ponti. (The song "She's on Top" later came out on Jack Ponti Presents Vol. 1)

He originally dedicated the symphony to the conductor Basil Cameron, but when it subsequently became an official commission for the New York World's Fair he was required to change the dedication, which now became 'To the People of America'. It was first played by the New York Philharmonic-Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall on 9th June 1939 under Sir Adrian Boult. Like all of Bax's symphonies, the seventh is in three movements, the first of which is largely characterised by surging energy and buoyant optimism, as can be heard in the opening paragraph. After a brief pause, the mood becomes more playful, but the music soon reverts to more serious matters. A new, animated woodwind theme characterised by repeated notes leads into a syncopated passage revealing Bax at his most exuberant. Contrast is provided by a rich, lyrical melody first heard on cellos and cor anglais, and the development section is by turns strenuous, wistful and mysterious, but always with an underlying sense of momentum. The recapitulation culminates in the lyrical melody soaring confidently towards a harsh climactic flourish (brass and timpani) before the movement returns to the shadows from which it emerged. Bax once curiously described the slow movement of this symphony as an 'intermezzo and trio', though intermezzi are not normally as extended and eventful as this one; and in praising Boult's first British performance he wrote that it 'expressed all the heavy summer languor which I meant to convey'. The outer sections may be predominantly languorous, but there are also moments of violent upheaval, as if the dreamlike atmosphere has been invaded by some dark nightmare. The central 'trio' bears the marking In Legendary Mood and features a more purposeful melody beginning on low woodwind against a busy solo violin accompaniment. The climax of the movement is ruthlessly hammered out, but the mood soon reverts to the lazy, unruffled calm of the opening. 'The third movement should start more deliberately', wrote Bax to Boult after hearing a recording of the New York première, '—a real 18FORTY romantic wallow!'. The movement is headed Theme and Variations, and after a rousing prelude the theme is quietly and soberly stated by the cellos and double basses. The variations lead into one another and range in mood from violent to tender, from ebullient to skittish. Bax once said of the final variation (the Epilogue) that it was 'as far as I can go', and indeed, with the advent of war only eight months after he had finished it, he lapsed into a musical silence that was to last until his appointment as Master of the King's Music in February 1942. Although he resumed composition, producing fanfares and marches for state occasions as well as music for the cinema, the stage and the concert hall, Bax never quite recovered the creative impulse that had driven him on during the inter-war years; and never again did he achieve the deeply moving serenity and poise to be found in the closing pages of his final symphony. -

Allegro Maestoso - 24:04 Bax completed his Symphony No.1 in E flat, not the first he had written, in 1921 in piano score, finishing the orchestration of the work by the following year. The slow movement he had written for what was originally to have been his third piano sonata was replaced by an orchestral movement that reflected more adequately the events of recent years. The symphony may be heard as a reaction not only to the tragedy of the war that had just finished, but even more to the tragedy of Ireland and the frustrated idealism and sacrifice of the Easter Rising of 1916. He calls for a large orchestra with four flutes, doubling also piccolo and bass flute, two oboes, cor anglais and heckelphone or bass oboe, four clarinets, including one doubling with an E flat clarinet and a bass clarinet, two bassoons and a double-bass sarrusaphone or double bassoon, four horns, three trumpets, three trombones, tuba, two harps, a percussion section including timpani, tenor, bass and side drum, gong, cymbals, triangle, glockenspiel celesta and xylophone, together with the usual strings. The use of lower pitched wind instruments gives a darker colour to much of the writing, with a telling use of percussion, the side drum with loosened snare in the slow movement, and the pointing of themes by the subtle very occasional use of celesta or xylophone. The work is dedicated to John Ireland. The composer referred to the symphony as in E flat, without the qualification major or minor, and there are elements of each in the motif that starts the first movement, marked Allegro moderato e feroce. This sets the sinister and menacing character of the first subject, modified by a secondary element to it, based on a descending scale-figure, which mounts to a climax in which the two elements that make up the subject appear in a grandiose Largamente, A short bridge passage leads the way to a second subject worthy of Glazunov in its strongly lyrical character. Elements of the two subjects join together in relative tranquillity moving forward into a central development that also features an insistently repeated accompanying rhythmic figure, with a demonstrable mastery of the orchestral forces used. The recapitulation in a movement that is broadly in the customary tripartite symphonic first movement form, is relatively short, with the largamente first subject and the second, scored now for flute, accompanied by harps and upper strings, a return to gentle tranquillity. The movement ends with a coda that allows the bassoon initial prominence, before a strong E flat minor conclusion, Celtic mists brood over the second movement, as fragments of lower melody emerge through an accompaniment of harps and eerie tremolo strings. The music moves forward to a dynamic climax, reinforced by the timpani, a relaxation of tension with a fragment of melody heard on the bass flute and cor anglais and then the sound of a medieval chant from bassoons and trombones, taken up by other wind instruments, as it is developed. A tragic mood, a strengthening of the first thematic material, returns, followed by a gentle version of the chant, before the movement ends as it had begun, The first element to appear in the third movement, a reminiscence of what has passed, is strongly stated by the brass, before an Allegro vivace offers livelier treatment of a derivative of the second movement, with instrumental textures and melodic motifs that might briefly suggest the language of Stravinsky. A melody for cor anglais, trumpet and viola, marked grotesquely, follows, a wild dance in its memories of the first subject of the first movement. With a shift of key, the heckelphone, first trombone and violas overtly recall the first theme, melting into a more lyrical mood as tranquillity is restored. The final triumphal march is based on the opening theme of the symphony, which, in spite of the brighter key of E flat major, never completely loses its implicitly threatening strength. -

The second subject sees the return of Sibelian moods, but Bax's comprehensive musical technique is noticeable. The recapitulation is particularly exciting, making it one of the most energetic opening movements of all Bax's symphonies. The second movement is majestic and a relatively short slow movement for Bax, but makes good use of brass and the percussion section. It ends calmly as to ensure a contrast between this movement and the one that follows. The finale begins with strong, repeated chords from the strings and woodwinds which quickly give way to a fast, fiery and energetic allegro section in which the influences of Russian composers is evident. Unlike in the previous symphonies, the epilogue is bold and majestic. -

Here the legends of King Arthur and the scenic grandeur of the Atlantic Ocean fired Bax's imagination into producing some of the most vivid sea music ever written. Bax himself wrote that the music brought, "...thoughts of many passionate and tragic incidents in the tales of King Arthur and King Mark... and that the piece ends as it began, with a picture of the castle still proudly fronting the sea and wind of centuries" This is a full-throated performance by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, conducted by David Lloyd-Jones. Nearly four years after completing Tintagel, the première of Bax's First Symphony was greeted with the newspaper headline 'Wonderful New Work Performed at Queen's Hall'. Over the following twelve years he wrote five more symphonies, but after completing the sixth in 1934 his compulsion to write music began to wane. He went on, nevertheless, to produce several notable chamber and orchestral pieces, including a Violin Concerto, and it was soon after finishing this in March 1938 that he embarked on his seventh and final symphony. The work had been fully sketched by October, and the orchestration was finished at Morar, on the west coast of Scotland, in January 1939, the very month that saw the death of Bax's beloved Yeats and exactly twenty years after the completion of Tintagel. He originally dedicated the symphony to the conductor Basil Cameron, but when it subsequently became an official commission for the New York World's Fair he was required to change the dedication, which now became 'To the People of America'. It was first played by the New York Philharmonic-Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall on 9th June 1939 under Sir Adrian Boult.
Like all of Bax's symphonies, the seventh is in three movements, the first of which is largely characterised by surging energy and buoyant optimism, as can be heard in the opening paragraph. After a brief pause, the mood becomes more playful, but the music soon reverts to more serious matters. A new, animated woodwind theme characterised by repeated notes leads into a syncopated passage revealing Bax at his most exuberant. Contrast is provided by a rich, lyrical melody first heard on cellos and cor anglais, and the development section is by turns strenuous, wistful and mysterious, but always with an underlying sense of momentum. The recapitulation culminates in the lyrical melody soaring confidently towards a harsh climactic flourish (brass and timpani) before the movement returns to the shadows from which it emerged.
Bax once curiously described the slow movement of this symphony as an 'intermezzo and trio', though intermezzi are not normally as extended and eventful as this one; and in praising Boult's first British performance he wrote that it 'expressed all the heavy summer languor which I meant to convey'. The outer sections may be predominantly languorous, but there are also moments of violent upheaval, as if the dreamlike atmosphere has been invaded by some dark nightmare. The central 'trio' bears the marking In Legendary Mood and features a more purposeful melody beginning on low woodwind against a busy solo violin accompaniment. The climax of the movement is ruthlessly hammered out, but the mood soon reverts to the lazy, unruffled calm of the opening.
'The third movement should start more deliberately', wrote Bax to Boult after hearing a recording of the New York première, '—a real 18FORTY romantic wallow!'. The movement is headed Theme and Variations, and after a rousing prelude the theme is quietly and soberly stated by the cellos and double basses. The variations lead into one another and range in mood from violent to tender, from ebullient to skittish. Bax once said of the final variation (the Epilogue) that it was 'as far as I can go', and indeed, with the advent of war only eight months after he had finished it, he lapsed into a musical silence that was to last until his appointment as Master of the King's Music in February 1942. Although he resumed composition, producing fanfares and marches for state occasions as well as music for the cinema, the stage and the concert hall, Bax never quite recovered the creative impulse that had driven him on during the inter-war years; and never again did he achieve the deeply moving serenity and poise to be found in the closing pages of his final symphony.

Bax completed his Symphony No.1 in E flat, not the first he had written, in 1921 in piano score, finishing the orchestration of the work by the following year. The slow movement he had written for what was originally to have been his third piano sonata was replaced by an orchestral movement that reflected more adequately the events of recent years. The symphony may be heard as a reaction not only to the tragedy of the war that had just finished, but even more to the tragedy of Ireland and the frustrated idealism and sacrifice of the Easter Rising of 1916. He calls for a large orchestra with four flutes, doubling also piccolo and bass flute, two oboes, cor anglais and heckelphone or bass oboe, four clarinets, including one doubling with an E flat clarinet and a bass clarinet, two bassoons and a double-bass sarrusaphone or double bassoon, four horns, three trumpets, three trombones, tuba, two harps, a percussion section including timpani, tenor, bass and side drum, gong, cymbals, triangle, glockenspiel celesta and xylophone, together with the usual strings. The use of lower pitched wind instruments gives a darker colour to much of the writing, with a telling use of percussion, the side drum with loosened snare in the slow movement, and the pointing of themes by the subtle very occasional use of celesta or xylophone. The work is dedicated to John Ireland.
The composer referred to the symphony as in E flat, without the qualification major or minor, and there are elements of each in the motif that starts the first movement, marked Allegro moderato e feroce. This sets the sinister and menacing character of the first subject, modified by a secondary element to it, based on a descending scale-figure, which mounts to a climax in which the two elements that make up the subject appear in a grandiose Largamente, A short bridge passage leads the way to a second subject worthy of Glazunov in its strongly lyrical character. Elements of the two subjects join together in relative tranquillity moving forward into a central development that also features an insistently repeated accompanying rhythmic figure, with a demonstrable mastery of the orchestral forces used. The recapitulation in a movement that is broadly in the customary tripartite symphonic first movement form, is relatively short, with the largamente first subject and the second, scored now for flute, accompanied by harps and upper strings, a return to gentle tranquillity. The movement ends with a coda that allows the bassoon initial prominence, before a strong E flat minor conclusion, Celtic mists brood over the second movement, as fragments of lower melody emerge through an accompaniment of harps and eerie tremolo strings.
The music moves forward to a dynamic climax, reinforced by the timpani, a relaxation of tension with a fragment of melody heard on the bass flute and cor anglais and then the sound of a medieval chant from bassoons and trombones, taken up by other wind instruments, as it is developed. A tragic mood, a strengthening of the first thematic material, returns, followed by a gentle version of the chant, before the movement ends as it had begun, The first element to appear in the third movement, a reminiscence of what has passed, is strongly stated by the brass, before an Allegro vivace offers livelier treatment of a derivative of the second movement, with instrumental textures and melodic motifs that might briefly suggest the language of Stravinsky. A melody for cor anglais, trumpet and viola, marked grotesquely, follows, a wild dance in its memories of the first subject of the first movement. With a shift of key, the heckelphone, first trombone and violas overtly recall the first theme, melting into a more lyrical mood as tranquillity is restored. The final triumphal march is based on the opening theme of the symphony, which, in spite of the brighter key of E flat major, never completely loses its implicitly threatening strength.

A melody for cor anglais, trumpet and viola, marked grotesquely, follows, a wild dance in its memories of the first subject of the first movement. With a shift of key, the heckelphone, first trombone and violas overtly recall the first theme, melting into a more lyrical mood as tranquillity is restored. The final triumphal march is based on the opening theme of the symphony, which, in spite of the brighter key of E flat major, never completely loses its implicitly threatening strength.

Along the cell cycle, there are numerous checkpoints in which the cell “doubles check” whether or not it should proceed to the next phase. At these checkpoints the cell decides whether or not it should move to the next step in the cell cycle. Abnormalities in these checkpoints are the keys to cancer formation, as dysregulation of these control mechanisms leads to unregulated cell division. The most important of these cell checkpoints is the point where the cell determines whether or not it should move from the G1 to S phase. Cells that pass through this checkpoint generally end up going through the full cycle of division. Rb and p53 are the most important control mechanisms at this check point.
Tumor Suppressor genes are involved in preventing one of the steps in the pathway that causes cancer. Most often these genes are involved in regulating the cell cycle and causing apoptosis in abnormal cells. When tumor suppressors are functioning properly they prevent abnormal cells from passing through checkpoints (stop cell division to give the cell time to repair itself). Malfunctioning tumor suppressors are some of the most important contributing factors to cancer formation, because it allows unregulated cell division. Since Tumor Suppressors contribute to cancer through a loss of function mutation both alleles generally need to be mutated to cause cancer. Even 1 functioning allele is usually enough to regulate the cell cycle. This is an example of the “two hit hypothesis.”
p53 is the most important tumor suppressor and is found to be mutated in about half of all cancers. p53 is activated by cellular damage or mutation to the DNA. p53 is a transcription factor which works by altering the transcription of downstream genes. When active, p53 stops the cell cycle (primarily at the G1-to-S Phase checkpoint) to give the cell time to repair itself. If repair is not possible, p53 causes apoptosis of the cell.
We have already learned that cytochrome C leakage from the mitochondria into the cytosol activates caspases and leads to apoptosis. The interaction between Bcl-2 (oncogenic/anti-apoptotic) and Bax (anti-oncogenic/ apoptotic) is a key regulator of cyt C release. Bax is a protein embedded in the mitochondrial membrane with a pore that can open or close as a result of conformational shape changes. When this Bax pore is open, cyt C can flow out of the mitochondria into the cytosol and cause apoptosis. One of the actions of Bcl-2 is to close the Bax pore. Apoptosis is initiated by p53 by increasing the activity/expression of Bax and decreasing the activity/expression Bcl-2.
Rb protein is another important tumor suppressor which controls the G1-to-S Phase checkpoint that is dysfunctional in many cancers. Rb stands for retinoblastoma which is the first cancer this protein was associated with. Rb stops the cell cycle by inhibiting the action of the E2F transcription factor. E2F activates genes which transition a cell from the G1 phase to the S phase. Therefore, the inhibition of EF2 by active RB protein prevents the cells transition into the S phase. When RB is phosphorylated it is inactivated which allows the cell to progress through the checkpoint in an unregulated manner.
In HPV E6 protein is created and “flags” p53 for degradation using ubiquitin. HPV also creates protein E7 which inhibits the action of Rb. These functions inactivate these tumor suppressors and cause cancers primarily in the cervix.
BRCA1 & BRCA-2 are tumor suppressor genes that fix double strand DNA breaks and perform mismatch repair. Germline (inherited) mutations and inactivation of either of these tumor suppressors can lead to familial types of breast and ovarian cancers.
