Peter Paul Wyngarde (born 23 August 1928) is a French-born English actor best known for playing the character Jason King, a bestselling novelist turned sleuth, in two British television series: Department S (1969–1970) and Jason King (1971–1972).
Wyngarde was born as Cyril Louis Goldbert in Marseille, France, the son of an English father and a French mother. His father worked for the British Diplomatic Service, and as a result his childhood was spent in a number of different countries. In 1941, while his parents were away in India, he went to stay with a Swiss family in Shanghai. The Japanese Army took over Shanghai's International Settlement on 8 December 1941, and as a British citizen Goldbert was interned in the Lunghua civilian internment camp on 10 April 1943. Conditions in the camp were sometimes harsh. According to J. G. Ballard's autobiography Miracles of Life, "Cyril Goldbert, the future Peter Wyngarde" was a fellow internee at Lunghua Camp and "He was four years older than me...". Ballard was born in November 1930 but according to Lunghwa Camp records compiled in 1943, Goldbert was actually born in 1928. His younger siblings, Adolphe Henry and Marion Simeone, were under Swiss protection and thus exempt from internment.
Flash Gordon is the hero of a space opera adventure comic strip originally drawn by Alex Raymond. First published January 7, 1934, the strip was inspired by and created to compete with the already established Buck Rogers adventure strip.
The Flash Gordon comic strip has been translated into a wide variety of media, including motion pictures, television and animated series. The latest version, a Flash Gordon television series, appeared on the United States Syfy in 2007–2008.
The Buck Rogers comic strip had been very commercially successful, spawning novelizations and children's toys.King Features Syndicate decided to create their own science fiction comic strip to compete with it. At first King Features tried to purchase the rights to the John Carter of Mars stories by Edgar Rice Burroughs; however, the syndicate were unable to reach an agreement with Burroughs. King Features then turned to Alex Raymond, one of their staff artists, to create the story. Raymond's first samples were dismissed for not containing enough action sequences. Raymond reworked the story and sent it back to the syndicate, who accepted it. Raymond was partnered with ghostwriter Don Moore (1904-1986), an experienced editor and writer. Raymond's first Flash Gordon story appeared in January 1934, alongside Jungle Jim. The Flash Gordon strip was well received by newspaper readers, becoming one of the most popular American comic strips of the 1930s. Like Buck Rogers, the success of Flash Gordon resulted in numerous licensed products being sold, including pop-up books, colouring books, and toy spaceships and rayguns.
Peter often is used to refer to Saint Peter, a disciple of Jesus Christ. It can also refer to many other people, of which only a few are listed here. This page only lists people commonly referred to as "Peter" and nothing else; for others, please see List of people named Peter.
Hellfire Club was a name for several exclusive clubs for high society rakes established in Britain and Ireland in the 18th century. The name is most commonly used to refer to Sir Francis Dashwood's Order of the Friars of St. Francis of Wycombe. Such clubs were rumoured to be the meeting places of "persons of quality" who wished to take part in socially perceived immoral acts, and the members were often involved in politics. Neither the activities nor membership of the club are easy to ascertain.
The first Hellfire Club was founded in London in 1718, by Philip, Duke of Wharton and a handful of other high society friends. The most notorious club associated with the name was established in England by Sir Francis Dashwood, and met irregularly from around 1749 to around 1760, and possibly up until 1766. In its later years, the Hellfire was closely associated with Brooks's, established in 1764. Other clubs using the name "Hellfire Club" were set up throughout the 18th century. Most of these clubs were set up in Ireland after Wharton's were dispelled.
Ian Mackendrick Hendry (13 January 1931 – 24 December 1984) was an English film, television and stage actor best known for his parts in British TV series of the 1960s and 1970s, including the original The Avengers and The Lotus Eaters, as well as for his roles in films such as The Hill, (1965), Repulsion (1965), and Get Carter. Peers recognised him as exceptionally gifted, but he never fulfilled the promise of his early career, in large part due to a severe alcohol problem. Hendry, who was still able to turn in an impressive performance in his declining years, died aged 53.
Hendry was born in Ipswich, Suffolk on 13 January 1931. His father, James Hendry was born in 1901 in Glasgow. James obtained a degree in Chemistry from Glasgow University before moving to Ipswich in 1924 to take up a graduate position with R & W Paul Ltd. (now BOCM Pauls Ltd). His mother, Enid (née Rushton) was born in Durham in 1906. Shortly after her birth, Enid moved to Ipswich with her parents, George and Edith Rushton. George Rushton was an artist of some considerable talent and was Head of the Ipswich Art School from 1906-1929.

Spent a day in Rome visiting my kids who are studying there. Took my new toy the 'Flycam Nano', fun when we ran in to the press pack outside Berlusconi's place with my 550d and nano claiming I was from CNN. Don't think 'Peter Wyngarde' was too impressed. Music: Paolo Nutini "These Streets"
FAIR USE: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Touch_of_Brimstone The episode is best known for the scene in which Peel dons a revealing, kinky "Queen of Sin" costume (which Diana Rigg designed herself), complete with a dog collar with three-inch spikes, whalebone corset, and high leather boots, with a large snake. It is the Hellfire club members who dress her this way; she appears for less than ten minutes of show time in this manner, always demure, though ending with Cartney attacking her with a whip. As a result of this and other elements, the episode was not broadcast when The Avengers aired on American network television; it did air on British television, but with the whipping scene edited down to one crack of the whip, due to objections made by Rediffusion Television. Shows up the unspeakable dross that British cinema has become now Hollywood, CIA and the Congress for Cultural Freedom, the Cultural Cold War, has done its evil work. The actor was one of the faces of the '60s, an actor with a magnetic screen presence which the camera caught brilliantly. Wyngarde always brought an edge to a character portrayal, a sense of dynamism, smouldering sexuality and an intense presence. Effortlessly he dominated the screen. Wyngarde was already a familiar face when the character he portrayed, 'Jason King', catapulted him to world recognition. Simply the man dazzled, and exuded star quality. How fortunate therefore that Roger Langley's meticulously researched, well constructed, and skilfully written work does Wyngarde great credit. http://www.peterwyngarde.me.uk A...
