The branch office of the
Ministry of Health in the
Central region disclosed that it is introducing a community-based integrated approach as regards pediatric care. It made the remark yesterday at a seminar it organized for community health representatives, sub-zonal
Administrators, stakeholders and representatives of national Associations.
Speaking at the seminar, Dr. Tesfai
Solomon, head of the branch office, said that community-based health ventures constitute one of the nation's exemplary accomplishments in line with the
Millennium Development Goals, and that such result could be attained thanks to the raised popular and stakeholder participation.
The new mode of pediatric service ensures better service outreach, thus giving rise to lower child morbidity and mortality rates, and participants of the seminar are expected to play due role to this end, he added.
Likewise, Ms. Dehab Solomon, head of family health in the
Ministry, explained that such methodology has been functional since the year
2001, and its testing gave positive outcome in various regions of the country. She further expressed conviction that the goal in connection with it would be attained in collaboration with community health representatives, stakeholders and communities.
Mr. Sibhatu Beyene from the Ministry stated that the approach also entails further diagnosis on pediatric patients.
The seminar participants pointed out that such meeting is vital, and voiced readiness to extend a helping hand towards the realization of the cherished goal.

The
Agriculture Ministry's branch in
Mendefera sub-zone has conducted an assessment meeting, and disclosed that various accomplishments have been registered in collaboration with communities and exemplary farmers, including the construction of 6 ponds.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr.
Fasil Kiflai, irrigation development expert in the locality, disclosed that sprinkler irrigation apparatus was distributed to a total of 29 exemplary farmers, thus giving rise to increased harvest.
In a report he presented, Mr. Mekonen Fisehaye, soil and water conservation expert, stated that remarkable achievement has been made as regards various agricultural activities in collaboration with students and members of the
People's Army. Among these activities are construction of terraces and water catchment walls, he added.(continued

World Diabetics Day was marked at national level last Thursday in Mendefera city.
Speaking on the occasion in which heads of line ministries and students took part, Dr. Goitom Mebrahtu, Chairman of the
National Diabetics
Association, pointed out that the commemoration of the Day is aimed at nurturing the awareness regarding the prevention and control mechanisms in connection with the disease.
