SNES Starfox: Route 3 playthrough
This is one of my favourite childhood games, Starfox, or also called Starwing in some parts of the world. All of the Starfox games are great and really fun to play but I picked this one for the Nostalgia ;D
I'm going through the complete third route here, and also without using any powerups (double laser, nova bombs, shield). It's also the longest one, since it has 7 levels, the other 2 routes only have 6 levels.
Now a short overview of what I think of each level (one + means I find the music bad / the boss easy and vice versa, up to 4 +):
Corneria 3: Difficulty +
Music ++++
Boss Difficulty +
Looks like: a huge airport or something like that
Nothing difficult.

Star Fox (SNES) Route 3 - Stage 7 And Ending
Stage 7 - Venom Surface
Unlike the other routes, Route 3 is comprised of seven stages instead of six. And they throw everything at you in the final stage of this route. When you reach the blocks and panels, some panels will rotate and others will drop. Brake often in this area. Also, the red pillars in this stage will not always disintegrate like in Route 1, some may fall over instead. Stay low to the ground to avoid most block attacks. When you reach the walls, shoot them to change direction, but with the blue arrow walls, shoot them with precise timing in the direction you want them to go. After that, stay low to avoid the generation blocks and panels.
The boss is again the Great Commander, as is the case with the Stage 5/6 boss being the same in the other routes. This time, it will tr...

Star Fox (SNES) Route 3 - Stage 6
Stage 6 - Venom Air Space
The final area at last. This stage is actually rather easy. Mostly you will be dealing with the missiles that spin at you from the ground. Also there are little needle enemies that fire bombs in a plus pattern if you don't destory them quickly, but is easy to dodge. The spinning missiles will appear closer than in the other air space stages, so you need to react accordingly.
The boss is the Great Commander, and it is one of the more annoying enemies in this game. You think just because the life meter is short it'll go down easy right? Corneria 3: Difficulty +
Music ++++
Boss Difficulty +
Looks like: a huge airport or something like that
Nothing difficult.
Asteroid Belt 2: Difficulty +
Music +++
Boss Difficulty ++
Many enemies who shoot these homing laser orbs at you, as well as many asteroids to avoid, some of them have a face on them and try to fly into you.
Fortuna: Difficulty ++
Music +++
Boss Difficulty +++
Looks like: first, a grassland with giant flowers and insects, then you fly over a sea with some fish and bird enemies, and lastly a wasteland with the same giant flowers as before
I like this one very much but those dragon heads in the water area are hard to avoid at times. Same for the boss.
Sector Z: Difficulty +++
Music ++
Boss Difficulty +
The only thing I hate about this are all these spinning bars.
Macbeth: Difficulty ++
Music ++++
Boss Difficulty ++++
Looks like: under the surface of a volcanic planet
The level itself is pretty simple, many shootable things such as homing rockets, burning rocks and those turrets which shoot those homing plasma orbs at you. The second phase of the boss is soooo damn annoying, I have no idea how to avoid the rotating iron balls and thus died a few times :/
Venom (Space) 3: Difficulty ++
Music ++
Boss Difficulty +++
Basically all you do in this stage is shoot all the incoming enemies, there are really many of them. The boss is also a big pain in the ass, because the weakspots are so hard to hit, you somehow have to shoot a little above them to hit them.
Venom (Surface) 3: Difficulty +++
Music +++
Boss 1 Difficulty ++++
Final Boss +++
Looks like: a dark version of Corneria with storm clouds everywhere
This final level is filled with all kinds of obstacles, like big floating plates, red pillars with the ability to fly, white blocks that appear out of nowhere and some more. The boss is the same as from the previous level but this time he transforms into some kind of robot. When it starts spinning around, it shoots an almost endless stream of iron balls at you, which is very hard to avoid as they randomly fly high or low. I died twice against him but after the spinning part it gets easier.
In the final part before Andross, there's a double laser power up which I had to grab, because if I hadn't, I'd have had to fly through the closing gate and that would have hurt really bad. Andross wasn't too hard but still I thought I would die at least once against him.

After that, stay low to avoid the generation blocks and panels.
The boss is again the Great Commander, as is the case with the Stage 5/6 boss being the same in the other routes. This time, it will transform into a firing machine, and its weakpoint is the opening/closing panel on the bottom. It will fire iron balls at you that will deal heavy damage. When it spins rapidly, just avoid the attacks until it stops. After you drain the energy bar, it will break up. Attack the flying head while dodging the spinning arms to defeat it.
Final Stage - Andross' Base
Not really much to say here. Stick in the middle of the left wall to avoid most of the pillars that will stick out. Attack Andross in the eyes and avoid the tiles as in the first two routes. However, this time you won't be able to completely destory him in one go, and when he comes back together, he will change face to like a demon. Tiles will constantly come from his mouth (like when he does his inhale/launch attack) and bombs from his eyes. Alternate between the eyes to avoid the bombs, and repeat the process.

Well, not this time, because again you have six things to destroy. First avolid the lasers and clusters while it assembles, then the difficult part begins. You have to shoot the little panels on its main body. This is more difficult than it sounds due to some odd hit detection, and the fact that it randomly opens and closes its panels. When you take out three, it will then start to fire bombs at you. Take patience to defeat this boss, especially when you get down to the last panel.
