Malabar Hill, a hillock in southern Mumbai, India is an extremely upmarket residential area, most known for the Walkeshwar Temple which houses the Banganga Tank. Situated at a height of 50 metres (approx. 165 feet), it is the highest point in South Mumbai.
The well known and prominent Keyi family of North Malabar in Kerala was founded by Chovvakkaran Moosa[citation needed] in the early 18th Century. He was a strong force in trade and commerce during that time, having powerful links with rulers, kings and countries. He started off his business with the Portuguese, the French, and the British. He owned a large part of Bombay including the area currently known as Malabar Hill and many parts in Chowpatti Beach area. Even today the family has some old shops and buildings in that area. When the British East India Company started creating problems for their business, they had to call a truce with them in order to survive. The Keyis tried everything from funding Tipu Sultan and Pazhassi Raja (the movie just released in India Pazhassi Raja even mentions that the king actually owed money to Chovvakkaran Moosa) in their war with the British at the time. When everything failed, they donated the entire area now known as Malabar Hill to the East India Company to maintain the Keyis' trading rights in the North Malabar area . Hence the name, Malabar Hill for this Western India prime property.

The Dhobi Ghats or 'Banks of the Washers', is the name of the 'Biggest laundrette in the world'. In the open air, hundreds of dhobis do much of the city's 'laundry'. In small allotments surrounded by low walls, launderers wash from dusk to dawn.
On Malabar Hill, between the villas of numerous film stars and luxury apartments, is the fascinating Adishwarji Jain Temple, a good place in which to gain an insight into the harsh rituals of the wealthy faithful who worshipped the first Jain saints. The legendary Hotel Taj Mahal Palace, with its striking façade and red cupolas, had a spectacular origin.
When industrial mogul, Tata, was refused entry to a British hotel restaurant by a sign that stated, FOR EUROPEANS ONLY, he decided to build the city's finest hotel.
Nowhere else are India's many remarkable contrasts so obvious and nowhere else can India be experienced so intensely as in Mumbai, mega metropolis and unique Gateway to India!

There are two beautiful temples in Walkeshwar area one is Shri Mahaveer Swami Temple at Chandanbala Aprs and second is Shri Adinath temple ( Shripal Nagar) at Nepean Sea Road.Jains are also some of the most prosperous communities in Mumbai and they have the highest literacy rate amongst other communities.
The Godiji Parshwanath temple in Pydhonie is also famous. It is a center of many Jain activities. The white idol of Godi Parshwanatha was brought from an ancient temple at Hamirpur in Rajasthan. This temple was first constructed in the Fort region of Mumbai. During early nineteenth century, there was a great fire in Vikram in 1859. In this video I take you to Banganga which is like a mini Varanasi, Banaras in the heart of Mumbai.
Banganga or Banganga Tank is an ancient water tank which is part of the Walkeshwar Temple Complex in Malabar Hill area of Mumbai in India.
According to local legend, it sprang forth when the Hindu god Ram, the exiled hero of the epic Ramayana, stopped at the spot five thousand years ago in search of his kidnapped wife Sita.
As the legend goes, overcome with fatigue and thirst, Rama asked his brother Lakshmana to bring him some water. Laxman instantly shot an arrow into the ground, and water gushed forth from the ground, creating a tributary of the Ganges, which flows over a thousand miles away, hence its name, Banganga, the Ganga created on a baan (arrow). - Wikipedia

This boulevard was built by the government of India in the early 20th century. Now, Marine Drive is a stretch of several kilometers which starts from Nariman Point, which is a commercial area, and up ttill Malabar Hills, which is a place where many rich and famous stay, including Bollywood celebrities. These concrete tetra-pods are placed here to reduce the pressure of the waves against the seawall, and it is extremely important to keep a check in this area, especially during the monsoon.
While in the morning this place is full of walkers and joggers, in the evening it is full of families, friends, lovers, tourists, all of whom come to take in the sea wind. C-shape Boulevard is often called a set of false teeth, where on one side you have the Arabian Sea and on the other side you have a lot of upscale apartments, bars, restaurants, discos and hotels. But to buy a piece of property here, be sure that you have a lot of money, because it is one of the most expensive real estate areas of the world. You can also enjoy a lot of street food, a wide variety of that at Chowpatti Beach. Of itself, Castries doesn't have a huge amount to offer visitors, and it's usually just a place that you'll pass through on your way to the more obvious attractions of Saint Lucia.
Even though Castries doesn't have much to offer, you can usually find a fair number of tourists wandering about the place, as the cruise ships that visit Saint Lucia dock at Pointe Seraphine, in the northern part of the city.
There is a tourist information office, a 15 minute walk from the town centre in the cruise ship dock at Pointe Seraphine.
Free maps are available from the information desk in the La Place Carenage mall on Jeremie Street, just along from the St.Lucia Fire Service building.
