George Washington (February 22, 1732 [O.S. February 11, 1731] – December 14, 1799) was the first President of the United States (1789–97), the Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. He presided over the convention that drafted the current United States Constitution and during his lifetime was called the "father of his country".
Widely admired for his strong leadership qualities, Washington was unanimously elected president in the first two national elections. He oversaw the creation of a strong, well-financed national government that maintained neutrality in the French Revolutionary Wars, suppressed the Whiskey Rebellion, and won acceptance among Americans of all types. Washington's incumbency established many precedents, still in use today, such as the cabinet system, the inaugural address, and the title Mr. President. His retirement from office after two terms established a tradition that lasted until 1940, when Franklin Delano Roosevelt won an unprecedented third term. The 22nd Amendment (1951) now limits the president to eight years in office.
George Washington Carver (c. 1860 – 5 January 1943), was an American botanist and inventor. The exact day and year of his birth are unknown; he was born into slavery in Missouri, either in 1861, or January 1864.
Carver's reputation is based on his research into and promotion of alternative crops to cotton, such as peanuts, and sweet potatoes, which also aided nutrition for farm families. He wanted poor farmers to grow alternative crops both as a source of their own food and as a source of other products to improve their quality of life. The most popular of his 44 practical bulletins for farmers contained 105 food recipes using peanuts. He spent years developing and promoting numerous products made from peanuts; none were commercially successful. He was also a leader in promoting environmentalism. He received numerous honors for his work, including the Spingarn Medal of the NAACP.
He was widely recognized and praised in the white community for his many achievements and talents. In 1941, Time magazine dubbed Carver a "Black Leonardo".
George Washington was unanimously elected as the first president of the United States of America after winning the American Revolutionary War as the Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army. Washington was first called "Father of his Country" three years after the beginning of the Revolutionary War – a status he earned not only for his military accomplishments, but also because of the numerous virtues he was perceived to possess as a human being. But within Washington's impeccable character, one quality stood out the most – a unique immunity to the corrupting effects of power, which stemmed from his selfless nature. "I often say of George Washington that he was one of the few in the whole history of the world who was not carried away by power," stated Robert Frost, "America's great poe...

I had heard about this before but I had to check it out for myself. I was on my way up to LA and decided to swing by Knott's Berry Farm. Sure enough, behind this random jam store on the Knott's property is a replica of George Washington's fireplace. It is weird and creepy as hell. After I turned the video off I looked and realized the photos on the wall (next to the gun) were of people gathering around that fireplace in the 1940's, when it was put there. The creator of Knott's Berry Farm, Walter Knott, went to Mt. Vernon and just liked the look of George Washington's fireplace and decided to rebuild it there. There's an old, aged sign I found that explains exactly that. Also, I guess that big ass stone wheel was brought across the country in the early 20th century to churn grain or somethi...

Although this episode of "The American Experience" says it came out in 1992, it sure looks older. The fashions of the historians seem early 80s and the footage is extremely grainy on this DVD. This film is very different in structure and style as opposed to the other episodes in the series. The usual narrators aren't there and instead it's more of a personal exploration of Washington by one historian--with input from some of his friends. It's also unusual because unlike a typical episode, this one is a rather deconstructionist--and mostly talks about how Washington sucked until he ultimately rose to the occasion, somewhat, during the Revolution. So anyone wanting to see a show glorify the man, this isn't it! Now I am not saying it's wrong--Washington was mighty unsuccessful in some ways. ...
The Independence Day celebration in the United States is one of the best reasons to remember the Founding Fathers of America and George Washington, a person, who had not only served as the first President of the USA but has done a lot of the formation of the administrative rules, which enabled the country to follow the ideals of Constitution and reach its glory. George Washington was a great example of a leader, who used his courage, integrity and perseverance in order to reach the goals of the nation. Such qualities enabled him to be unanimously elected for both terms (and probably the third, if he hadn’t refused the offer). The full list of facts about George Washington may be found here: http://www.presentingfacts.com/2016/07/brief-biography-of-george-washington.html But in this ed...

WHO WERE THE FIRST PRESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES? When we think of the President of the United States, many people do not realize that we are actually referring to presidents elected under the U.S. Constitution. Everybody knows that the first president in that sense was George Washington. But in fact the Articles of Confederation, the predecessor to the Constitution, also called for a president - albeit one with greatly diminished powers. Eight men were appointed to serve one year terms as president under the Articles of Confederation. In November 1781, "John Hanson" became the first President of the United States in Congress Assembled, under the Articles of Confederation. Don't go checking the encyclopedia for this guy's name — he is one of those great men that are lost to history. If...
Sermon: It was well–known for the first 150 years of our country that George Washington was a man of great faith. But recent historians have tried to downplay that. Dr. Kennedy shares some amazing truths about the Christian faith of George Washington that you might never have heard before. The historical record shows that George Washington was a leader of unquestioned Christian integrity and humility. It was that humility, recognizing his own fallibility and the truth of the Bible, that caused him to want to put limits on the powers of government leaders—a desire shared by all of the Founding Fathers from one degree to another. They viewed government as a necessary evil that should be strictly bound by the Constitution. Scripture Reference: 1 John 1:1-10 Feature: The growth of gove...

Did the grid design of the nation's capital--commissioned by George Washington and completed by Pierre L'Enfant--contain occult symbols embraced by the Illuminati in 1776? Did Benjamin Franklin and George Washington deliberately enlist 33 Freemason generals from France to grow the fraternal brotherhood among Masonic nations? Explore the secret (and secretly dark) sides of the men responsible for laying the foundation of the United States...
I am burning in a smoke-choked house but
Tonight is empty of warm glows and whispered good nights
Riot, disorder, set the banks on fire
Some old war song used to play here
Once I heard it and the sound it made was sad but hopeful
