Just Betzer

Just Betzer (11 June 1944 – 6 November 2003), was a Danish Oscar winning film producer, born in Åbyhøj, Denmark.

Betzer began his career managing the candy concession and as an alternate projectionist at his father's theater in Aarhus, Denmark, in 1955. In 1960, Betzer founded Panorama Film production/distribution company in Denmark, which has since made over 30 feature films. He later opened a chain of 13 theatres throughout Denmark. In 1985, Betzer moved to England, and started the London-based company Panorama Film International with offices in Copenhagen, Denmark and Los Angeles, USA.

In 1987, the film Babette's Feast, produced by Betzer, was released. It went on to win Betzer the Best Foreign Film Oscar, and the BAFTA Best Foreign Film award, in 1988. Two years later, he opened the Los Angeles-based production company, Just Betzer Films. His other films include Winterborn, Assassination, And You Thought Your Parents Were Weird, Nobody's Perfect, The Misfit Brigade, and the erotic The Girl in a Swing, with Meg Tilly. Betzer committed suicide at age 59 on 6 November 2003, in Lumsaas, Denmark.

Assemblies of God

The Assemblies of God (AG), officially the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, is a group of over 140 autonomous but loosely associated national groupings of churches which together form the world's largest Pentecostal denomination. With over 384,000 ministers and outstations in over 212 countries and territories serving approximately 67.5 million adherents worldwide, it is the fourth largest international Christian group of denominations and the largest Pentecostal denomination in the world.

As an international fellowship, the member denominations are entirely independent and autonomous; however, they are united by shared beliefs and history. The Assemblies originated from the Pentecostal revival of the early 20th century. This revival led to the founding of the Assemblies of God in the United States in 1914. Through foreign missionary work and establishing relationships with other Pentecostal churches, the Assemblies of God expanded into a worldwide movement. It was not until 1988, however, that the world fellowship was formed. As a Pentecostal fellowship, the Assemblies of God believes in the Pentecostal distinctive of baptism with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues.

Babette's Feast

Babette's Feast (Danish: Babettes gæstebud) is a 1987 Danish drama film directed by Gabriel Axel. The film's screenplay was written by Axel based on the story by Isak Dinesen (Karen Blixen). Produced by Just Betzer, Bo Christensen, and Benni Korzen with funding from the Danish Film Institute, Babette's Feast was the first Danish cinema film of a Blixen story. It was also the first Danish film to win the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The film premiered in the Un Certain Regard section of the 1987 Cannes Film Festival.

Plot

The elderly and pious Protestant sisters Martine (Birgitte Federspiel) and Philippa (Bodil Kjer) live in a small village on the remote western coast of Jutland in 19th-century Denmark. Their father was a pastor who founded his own Pietistic conventicle. With their father now dead and the austere sect drawing no new converts, the aging sisters preside over a dwindling congregation of white-haired believers.

The story flashes back 49 years, showing the sisters in their youth. The beautiful girls have many suitors, but their father rejects them all, and indeed derides marriage. Each daughter is courted by an impassioned suitor visiting Jutland – Martine by a charming young Swedish cavalry officer, Lorens Löwenhielm, and Philippa by a star baritone, Achille Papin, from the Paris opera, on hiatus to the silence of the coast. Both sisters decide to stay with their father and spurn any life away from Jutland.

Without You (Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle song)

"Without You" is a romantic song written by the American songwriter and music producer Lamont Dozier and recorded as a duet by the singers Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle in 1987. The song was the love theme from the comedy film Leonard Part 6, released the same year. The single peaked at #8 on the adult contemporary chart, #14 on the R&B chart and #89 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Description

"Without You" was composed by Dozier to be the love theme in Leonard Part 6, released in the United States on December 18, 1987. That same year, Belle released her first album, All by Myself, but "Without You" was not included on the album. In 2012, All by Myself was remastered on CD and "Without You" was included at the end of the album as a bonus track. This is the only album by Belle in which the song is present. Unlike her, Bryson included the song on his album Positive, released in 1988. The song was included in his compilations Anthology, released in 2001, and Bedroom Classics Vol. 2 – Peabo Bryson, released in 2004. On every album that the song is present, it is titled "Without You (Love Theme from Leonard Part 6)", but its title is only '"Without You", given by its composer Dozier. It was the first of four duets recorded by Bryson and Belle, who recorded together "Without You" (in 1987), "I Can't Imagine" (in 1991), "A Whole New World" (in 1992) and "Total Praise" (in 2009). "A Whole New World" is the main theme of the American animated film Aladdin.

Dorthe Larsen wuchs in Kopenhagen auf. Bei ihrem Vater, der Kapellmeister des Symphonischen Orchesters Aarhus war, machte sie ihre musikalische Ausbildung. Daneben erlernte sie Schauspiel, Tanz und Pantomime. Mit acht Jahren nahm sie in ihrer Heimat Dänemark ihre erste Schallplatte Min Piphans auf. Anfang der 1960er Jahre kam sie nach Deutschland und bewarb sich 1963 mit dem Titel Eine Menge Verehrer bei den Deutschen Schlager-Festspielen in Baden-Baden, erreichte jedoch nicht das Finale. Auch die B-Seite dieser Single Deiner Nase seh' ich's an fand große Beachtung. Im Folgejahr hatte sie jedoch ihren ersten Erfolg mit dem Titel Junger Mann mit roten Rosen, der bei den Schlager-Festspielen 1964 einen beachtlichen 5. Platz erreichte. Dadurch wurde sie im deutschsprachigen Raum bekannt. 1965 erreichte sie mit Blondes Haar am Paletot und Eine Schwalbe macht noch keinen Sommer sogar den 4. Platz. 1968 hatte Kollo ihren ersten großen Hit mit Sind Sie der Graf von Luxemburg? Mit dem Schlager Seine Hoheit, der Herr Kronprinz hatte Dorthe 1969 noch einmal einen Hit. Bei NDR Kiel Welle Nord moderierte sie sieben Jahre lang ihre eigene Rundfunksendung und bekam ihre eigene populäre TV Sendung Bi uns to Huus, die sie vier Jahre lang einmal im Monat moderierte. 1980 nahm sie eine deutsche Version von Papa Pinguin auf, dem luxemburgischen Beitrag zum Eurovision Song Contest. Anfang der 1990er Jahre versuchte sie sich auf dem volkstümlichen Sektor. Mit Heimat ist nicht bloß ein Wort erreichte sie beim niedersächsischen Wettbewerb Lieder so schön wie der Norden 1991 den 6. Platz. Bei Lieder so schön wie der Norden 1993 erreichte sie mit Es gibt eine nordische Sage sogar Platz 4. Dorthe Kollo gehört zu den wenigen Schlagersängerinnen, die bis heute im Radio präsent sind, wenngleich sie seit Jahren keinen Hitparadenerfolg mehr verbuchen konnte. Sie war von 1967 bis 1977 mit dem Opernsänger René Kollo verheiratet, mit dem sie die gemeinsame Tochter Nathalie Kollo (* 1967) hat. 1983 heiratete sie Requisiteur Bernd Klinkert, im selben Jahr kam Tochter Jil zur Welt. Die Ehe wurde 1988 geschieden. Von 1996 bis 2000 war sie mit dem dänischen Filmproduzenten Just Betzer verheiratet. Seit sieben Jahren lebt sie mit Reeder Heiner Dettmer in Bremen.

Dadurch wurde sie im deutschsprachigen Raum bekannt. 1965 erreichte sie mit Blondes Haar am Paletot und Eine Schwalbe macht noch keinen Sommer sogar den 4. Platz. 1968 hatte Kollo ihren ersten großen Hit mit Sind Sie der Graf von Luxemburg? Einen weiteren Erfolg hatte sie im selben Jahr mit Wärst du doch in Düsseldorf geblieben, mit dem sie Platz 2 des Deutschen Schlager-Wettbewerbs 1968 erreichte und eine Goldene Schallplatte gewann. Beide Titel gehören heute zu den Evergreens des deutschen Schlagers und werden, ebenso wie der Titel Jeder Schotte, der auch aus dem Jahre 1968 stammt, in Wunschkonzerten immer wieder nachgefragt. Mit dem Schlager Seine Hoheit, der Herr Kronprinz hatte Dorthe 1969 noch einmal einen Hit. Weitere Erfolgstitel waren die Singles Ein rosaroter Apfelbaum, Ein ganz Schlauer war Herr Schopenhauer, Chilli-Pfeffer, Man muß dem Glück entgegen geh'n oder Du bringst Sonne in mein Herz. Anfang der 1970er Jahre wurde es etwas ruhiger um Dorthe Kollo, doch nahm sie auch in den Folgejahren immer wieder Titel auf Schallplatte auf. Große Beachtung fanden ihre Schlager-Singles Er war Student in Heidelberg, Wie ein Blatt im Buch der Zeit, Wenn du mich liebst, dann komm zu mir, Doch dann kamst ausgerechnet du, Cumbaya Cumbayon, Tobago Helloh oder Und dann war es Liebe. Daneben war sie auch Gast in zahlreichen Fernsehsendungen, in denen sie ihre alten Hits, aber auch neue Titel sang. Bei NDR Kiel Welle Nord moderierte sie sieben Jahre lang ihre eigene Rundfunksendung und bekam ihre eigene populäre TV Sendung Bi uns to Huus, die sie vier Jahre lang einmal im Monat moderierte. 1980 nahm sie eine deutsche Version von Papa Pinguin auf, dem luxemburgischen Beitrag zum Eurovision Song Contest. Anfang der 1990er Jahre versuchte sie sich auf dem volkstümlichen Sektor. Mit Heimat ist nicht bloß ein Wort erreichte sie beim niedersächsischen Wettbewerb Lieder so schön wie der Norden 1991 den 6. Platz. Bei Lieder so schön wie der Norden 1993 erreichte sie mit Es gibt eine nordische Sage sogar Platz 4. Dorthe Kollo gehört zu den wenigen Schlagersängerinnen, die bis heute im Radio präsent sind, wenngleich sie seit Jahren keinen Hitparadenerfolg mehr verbuchen konnte. Sie war von 1967 bis 1977 mit dem Opernsänger René Kollo verheiratet, mit dem sie die gemeinsame Tochter Nathalie Kollo (* 1967) hat. 1983 heiratete sie Requisiteur Bernd Klinkert, im selben Jahr kam Tochter Jil zur Welt. Die Ehe wurde 1988 geschieden. Von 1996 bis 2000 war sie mit dem dänischen Filmproduzenten Just Betzer verheiratet. Seit sieben Jahren lebt sie mit Reeder Heiner Dettmer in Bremen.
