Tokyo Electric Power Company has been investigating the damage to the reactor's containment vessel, which contains melted nuclear fuel due to the 2011 accident. The water is leaking from a point on a pipe leading to the containment vessel. An image taken by a robot probe shows a black area on the brown pipe. The leak point is above a donut-shaped unit called a suppression chamber where a robotic investigation detected flows of contaminated water last November. The chamber is in the lower part of the containment vessel. Utility officials believe water from the damaged pipe is flowing to the lower part of the vessel. They say they will study ways to stop the leak. Identifying the specific locations of the water leakage is important for TEPCO's plan to remove melted nuclear fuel after plugging the leaks and filling the vessels with water. A contaminated water leak has also been found in the containment vessel of the Number 3 reactor. Officials say they will now investigate the suppression chamber and other parts of the Number 2 reactor. http://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/englis.. Cyber Conscious Trio
This series of animated shorts that tell the story of three cyborgs: VJ Um Amel, an Arabic and English speaking, female cyborg—Shashi, an androgynous, male cyborg with sonic powers—and VJ Um Amel’s seductive sidekick, Femme Bot. In the video series, the trio will move in and out of various media—film, web-based media, animation, etc. The first episode of the series, ‘The Cyber Conscious Trio,’ is a 3 minute short that contrasts the politics of the aesthetics between Waltz with Bashir and Persepolis, two feature animated films about the Middle East. In the VJ Um Amel Series, the animated trio will navigate through these various landscapes by crossing between the cinematic worlds of these two films, and locating themselves and their world amidst it all. Our unique combination—using rotoscope animation, for example, mixed with animated drawings of Middle Eastern cyber landscapes, modulated video remixes, and data visualizations—offers an innovative critique on gender, transnationalism, and digital aesthetics. VJ Um Amel's cyber world shows that issues of domination can be much more complicated than a typical binary vision of the Middle East might suggest.

May Bay (Airplane)
“May Bay,” or “Airplane” in Vietnamese, is a twenty-six minute film that theorizes history, memory, and transnationalism, interweaving my Vietnamese grandmother’s story with my own second-generation Asian American narrative. Based on a series of in-depth interviews with my grandmother—who was part of the massive exodus to the United States two days before the Fall of Saigon in 1975—and her relatives—who live in Vietnam as well as in California—this film is about the transgenerational transmission of stories. In contrast to the official history of the war, “May Bay” focuses on the intimate and even painful memories—some of which remain untold—of those whose lives were shaped, but never defined, by the war. Using old photographs, found footage, and filmic shots, I insert my grandmother’s narrative into this official history, finding within its nuances a story of my own.

TRANSNATIONALMANNSCHAFT - documentary trailer
TRANSNATIONALMANNSCHAFT

While during the Football World Cup 2010 the whole world turned its head towards South Africa, Philipp Kohl and Ali Badakhshan Rad took a different approach to look at the transnationalism: With reference to the ethnic diversity of the German national team, they shot a documentary in the lively Mannheim neighborhoods of Jungbusch and Filsbach.
Transnationalmannschaft is a film about a multiethnic urban area during the the world's most revered sports event. Seven protagonists portray their personal perception of the tournament, their cultural origin being as many-faceted as that of the German national team: Of the 23 players on the German World Cup team in South Africa, eleven could have opted to play for other nations earlier in their careers. They are all German, their parents are not – the analytical concept of transnationalism locates their identity in two nations.
The film provides insight into a part of town with a migrant population of over 60% and documents the relationship of its protagonists towards the German national team. The film asks what terms like „home“, „native country“ and „nation“ mean to them and gives the audience a chance to see Germany, its society and this specific community through the eyes of these modern-day “locals”.
Transnationalmannschaft thus outlines the identity of a multiethnic neighborhood in a large German city, leaving the sovereignty of interpretation to its protagonists. Socially relevant and highly urgent issues such as whether you can have two home countries or what it actually means to be German are brought into focus via the emotional detour of the German national team and the Football World Cup.
Immigrant neighborhoods such as Jungbusch and Filsbach can be found in every German or even Western European city. What makes these two special, however, is the fact that they are located in the downtown area, where student nightlife, alternative concepts, high-powered economy and a myriad of culturally different backgrounds have to find a way to co-exist and merge.
Transnationalmannschaft is a "Heimatfilm" that investigates 21st century social reality in German and European cities and last but not least celebrates football as a passion beyond all ethnic boundaries.

Challenging the Centre
This video explores the social significance of food. I interviewed Dr. Julie Mehta about her grandmother's fish curry recipe and the role it plays in her life now. Her grandmother used to cook this dish for British Rajs while England was still India's colonial power, yet Mehta now teaches post colonial literature. Her ambivalent relationship with the dish is made more poignant as the ingredients are shown to be an amalgam of British and Indian. Mehta concludes that having knowledge of the 'East' and the 'West,' as well as having the knowledge of India's contested history, enables her to be in an empowered position. In this way, being on the fringes, she can challenge the centre. The dish also illuminates Mehta's identity as an Indian-Canadian, as she explains how the dish was adapted to Canadian salmon, revealing her comfort with her identity as she discusses how good the new translated recipe is.
Mehta also speaks about her relationship with her grandmother and her father, both of whom have been significant in her life. As both of these individuals have now passed away, she keeps their presences alive through the memories brought about as she cooks.
