Gomukh, the terminus or snout of the Gangotri Glacier, from where Bhagirathi River originates, is one of the primary sources of the Ganges River. The place is situated at a height of 13,200 ft in Uttarkashi district in the state of Uttarakhand, India. It is one of the largest in the Himalayas with an estimated volume of over 27 cubic kilometers. It is a popular Hindu pilgrimage site, along with Gangotri, as well as trekking destination.
Gomukh is also referred to as "Gaumukh" or "Gomukhi" (Hindi: गौमुख or गौमुखी ; Assamese and Bengali: গোমুখ or গোমুখী). The word "Gomukh" (go + mukh) literally means "Mouth of a Cow". According to some sayings, earlier the snout exactly looked like "Mouth of a Cow".
Gomukh is mentioned in the Puranas. It is said there that searching a lost sheep a shepherd boy reached near a glacier in Gangotri, the snout of which exactly looked like the mouth of a cow, and thus it got its name 'Gomukh'. From then many saints, holy travellers, as well as religious people went there to worship the place.
The Ganga (Hindustani: [ˈɡəŋɡaː]) , also Ganges (/ˈɡændʒiːz/ GAN-jeez) is a trans-boundary river of Asia which flows through the nations of India and Bangladesh. The 2,525 km (1,569 mi) river rises in the western Himalayas in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, and flows south and east through the Gangetic Plain of North India into Bangladesh, where it empties into the Bay of Bengal. It is the third largest river by discharge.
The Ganga is the most sacred river to Hindus. It is also a lifeline to millions of Indians who live along its course and depend on it for their daily needs. It is worshipped as the goddess Ganga in Hinduism. It has also been important historically, with many former provincial or imperial capitals (such as Pataliputra,Kannauj,Kara, Kashi, Patna, Hajipur, Munger, Bhagalpur, Murshidabad, Baharampur, Kampilya, and Calcutta) located on its banks.
The Ganga was ranked as the fifth most polluted river of the world in 2007. Pollution threatens not only humans, but also more than 140 fish species, 90 amphibian species and the endangered Ganga river dolphin. The Ganga Action Plan, an environmental initiative to clean up the river, has been a major failure thus far, due to corruption, lack of technical expertise, poor environmental planning, and lack of support from religious authorities.

This is the 4th and final video of the series showing my trip to Gangotri and the Gomukh Glacier at the end of September and beginning of October 2009. This clip shows the approach to Bhojbasa and the campgrounds there for travelers to Gomukh. It then shows the 4km hike up to Gomukh with various shots of the glacier and the sights along the way. (No horses are allowed into Bhojbasa or beyond it.) The river Bhagirathi Ganga which flows out of the glacier mouth does not get all its water from the melting of the glacier. Meltwater coming down from the surrounding mountains and from the high meadows of Tapovan slide under the glacier edge and find their way into the hidden stream which later emerges from the "mouth of the cow", i.e. the "Go-mukh" -shaped cavern that you see in the videos. All i need is somebody to touch me and hold me again
wanna feel like i did when i lay in your arms, oh yeah
i say you left me alone and i just cannot take it, i hate
all i need is somebody to hold me...
Somebody, somebody to touch me and hold me,
somebody, somebody to love me and kiss me.
All i need is devotion and one strong emotion again
gonna find me a friend and he'll help me to mend, oh yeah
i say i'm missing your love and i just can't deny it, i
tried it
all i need is somebody to hold me...
Somebody, somebody to touch me and hold me,
somebody, somebody to love me and kiss me.
Somebody, somebody to heed me and need me,
