A vocal group is a group of singers who sing and harmonize together with a backing band. Some groups do play some of their own instruments, but not all. (Most vocal groups that play their own instruments are generally categorized as "bands" and not "vocal groups"). Some of the best-known of these groups include The Miracles, The Four Tops, The Platters, The Drifters, The Temptations, The Four Seasons , The Commodores, The Impressions , The Jackson Five, The Manhattan Transfer, James Brown & The Famous Flames, The Chi-Lites, The Dramatics, The Delfonics, The Pointer Sisters, The Supremes, The Beach Boys, Dion and the Belmonts , Boyz II Men and Little Anthony & the Imperials.

Plot: Teenager Marvin looks like a huge walking hairball. His dad is convinced Marvin's lazy, so he tells him to paint the living room (while acting very lazy himself). Marvin goes off to buy paint, giving everyone he meets a flower. Back home, the mayor's televised speech about treating the city like your house gives him an idea; as his father naps, he rounds up his friends, who agree to help. Dad awakes to find the living room painted in psychedelic patterns; he's even more shocked to discover that the outside of their entire block has been painted in similarly wild patterns. But when the mayor praises Marvin for his originality and ambition, dad comes around.

Plot: A Universal Army enlistment promotion, produced as a musical showcase for Harry James, the Andrews Sisters, Joe E. Lewis, and Donald O'Connor & Peggy Ryan. The film's thin plot has James drafted, and joining him is the band's lead vocalist Lon Prentice (Dick Foran), who doesn't believe that Army training and regulations are necessary for anyone of his skill and fame. Shemp Howard steals the film whenever James and the Andrews aren't performing. As Sgt. Snavely, he's effectively teamed with Mary Wickes as his shrewish fiancée, trying desperately to keep her away from the attentions of nightclub comic and USO performer Lancelot Pringle McBiff (Joe E. Lewis). Shemp also has the opportunity to clown onstage with the Andrews Sisters during a musical finale, as they perform Don't Sit Under the Appletree. Arguably, Shemp's best solo feature film credit.

Plot: Another entry in the "books come alive" subgenre, with possibly more books coming alive than any other. We begin with some musical numbers, notably the various pages of Green Pastures all joining in on a song, The Thin Man entering The White House Cookbook and exiting much fatter, and The House of Seven (Clark) Gables singing backup to Old King Cole. The Three Musketeers break loose, become Three Men on a Horse, grab the Seven Keys to Baldpate, and set the Prisoner of Zenda free. They are soon chased by horsemen from The Charge of the Light Brigade and Under Two Flags and beset by the cannons of All Quiet on the Western Front. All this disturbs the sleep of Rip Van Winkle, who opens Hurricane so that everyone is (all together now) Gone with the Wind.
